Haven't taken a whole body picture since surgery, but here's a face side by side. One on right is 5 weeks post RNY. One on left is a few weeks before surgery.

I’m scheduled on 2/15. I have the same concerns. I know 3 people personally that have gin through it and they say follow the instruction to a “T” and no problems. East something wrong = pain and suffering. I’ll be there for you !! We can compare notes since we will be 3 days apart [emoji16]

Hello my ESG family. First of all I would like to sincerely thank Tex, Mel, and Amy for the sweetest condolences on my mother’s death. Your words, prayers, and thoughts truly meant the world to me.
It has been two weeks now since my mom passed and I’m trying to cope with this devastating loss. So as you may have guessed— healthy eating was not a priority. However, I’ve managed to keep my weight under reasonable control considering the circumstances. It is something that I must know put as a priority in my life. My mother was very ill and unfortunately her weight ,bad eating habits, and lack of exercise contributed to the worsening of her condition as the years went by. I don’t want to go through what she did. Her quality of life in the last few years was horrible. She had no energy to go out and enjoy life. She needed constant help and care. I do miss her tremendously but I know that she in now in a better place. She didn’t want to live the way that she did. Her last hospitalization was painful to watch. She was basically kept alive by the machines attached to her. If she had survived that last hospital stay I am positive she would have needed a 24 hour nurse or something to get by. I know she didn’t want to live that way.
I’m still grieving her loss but it has in a strange way made me more determined to get my weight issue taken care of. I am going forward with my scheduled esg on February 6. I think now more than ever I have to take care of my health. I’m sure my mother would have wanted it that way.

Hi bubbles. It’s going really well. Last checked down 18lbs.
I know a lot of people here call it ‘feeling restriction’ but to me that feel like a negative. No one wants to feel restricted. But what I do feel is ‘full’ when I have eaten enough.
I used to feel full only when I had eaten way too much.
This was my goal, so I’m happy so far. Plus I have yet to feel hunger - another plus.

Thanks for starting this thread hope4momof4 it's a great idea.
    My stats
    Current weight: 191.6 lbs.
    Height: 5’4”, Age: 45, female
Biggest thing I accomplished this past week: I met with ESG doctor, discontinued using phentermine. and cut out sugar, flour, and grains.
My biggest challenge: Coping with hunger pangs, sugar withdrawals, lung and joint infection and needing a dose of prednisone which increases my appetite.
My biggest victory: I have lost 3.4 lbs and sleeping through the night.

I’m going to begin by posting my stats so hopefully once I have my procedure I can look back and see how much weight I’ve lost.
    Current weight: 198 lbs. (ouch🤭)
    height: 5’5”, Age: 43, female
Biggest thing I accomplished this past week: I finally made an appointment for a consultation on 12/7 (which I will definitely update about on a different thread, lol)
My biggest challenge: having the courage to tell my husband I want to do this (he’s the only one who will know besides my mom) and trying to wean myself off of phentermine which at this point is really not helping me with my appetite at all. I am too afraid to stop taking it because I will probably gain a lot of weight if I do.
My biggest victory (even if it’s a very small one): realizing that I don’t need a sweet snack at night and reached for a piece of fruit instead.
I hope at least some of you join me in this thread. Once I have my procedure, God willing, this will keep me accountable.
Thanks for allowing me to share. 🤗🤗

Hi! I am new as well. Ive seen a few names on other threads that I see here. I haven’t had my first appointment yet but oddly enough I had already had 95% of the tests and requirements done so I just had to have it all faxed over. I have to attend a seminar on Monday then I will have my first appointment. I know exactly what you are saying about not feeling comfortable in your own skin. I cannot wait for that day again! I also have PCOS and this is what my endocrinologist Recommended. Can’t wait to see your progress and everyone else’s! Prayers for everyone going through their struggles and journeys [emoji177]

Be over the moon for this!
I had moments of doubt and put off surgery from 2006-2010 ... once the mortality rate fell below 0.35% (under one person in 550 operations), I knew it was mathematically safe even for a formerly super morbidly obese person as I was.
I had two lots of ten seconds of "Is this the right thing?" before the anaesthetic. Those were 20 wasted seconds.
This is an ultra smart thing I have done ... and there's over 99% chance that it will be very good to excellent for you too, @Todd_196 ... and, just as a further good omen, I live on a street called TODD Street and my wife's birthday is 19/6 (how we write June 19 in Australia). You gotta be blessed having me comment. <GRIN>

PCOSSUCKS reacted to Newme17 in Let's Shake The Tree!! Hey Vets, Maintaining is All About The Rules...Right?
@FluffyChix the numbers will vary and should vary as you lose weight. Let’s say that 1000 cal a day should only be working to maintain if you were 4’2” and 80 lbs. I believe that any doc/nut should/will adjust the amounts you should be taking in for maintenance. Or you can figure these numbers out yourself. Here’s a calculator I like to use. It gives you an idea of what should be. Notice I didn’t say it’s 100% accurate...someone will always find something wrong, but it gives the general idea of what your numbers should be based on your age and activity level and your goals. Obviously this doesn’t work for us who have tiny stomachs now, but it can when we get to goal cause we do eat more by then.

I don’t think the pcos had any bearing on getting approved. The main items that were under consideration were my weight and track record of not being able to achieve a healthy weight.

Thank you so much for doing this topic . I have PCOS for years now. I am 3 months post op and I am not longer insulin resistant. For the first time in 7 years, my insulin levels are normal yay!! My periods are normal, they were irregular and really painful before. I am having some Hair loss but I always had hair loss, I am lucky that I have lots of hair. I had 1 baby prior surgery,I have many cysts in my ovaries. And now I have my left tube blocked :/ I am not looking to have more children. But there is hope to get pregnant without fertility treatments. I lost about 40 lbs prior my pregnancy and that helped me to get pregnant. So after your VSG there is hope that you won't need fertility treatments even if you have cysts in your ovaries

Hold up! I have good news for you! My starting stats were exactly like yours. I'm 5'6" and was 236 when I inquired about wls back in January 2014. My bmi was under 40. Typically a BMI under 40 requires two comorbidities but having a diagnosis of PCOS alone qualified me as I didn't have anything else. There has been so much research the last decade showing the high correlation between insulin resistance in PCOS leading to diabetes that wls is considered prevention surgery. Good luck with the process. I had surgery 10 months ago and weighed 154 pounds this morning. Best decision I ever made.
Wanted to add - I had a long documented history of PCOS on my medical charts spanning decades. I'm assuming you have a paper trail documenting this diagnosis? It will make the process of getting approved easier.

You should make,it on the comorbibs and also on BMI. I have gerd, sleep apnea, severe arthritis and a BMI over 45. I'm 72 and although many programs won't touch anybody over 60 my surgeon and program had no qualms in accepting me. I have low cholesterol, low moderate blood pressure, no diabetes and am properly motivated for success. So I'm in it to win it like everyone else.
