    I feel the same mc2017!
My surgery was changed from August 27th to September 5th because of the OR getting some changes. I will be having mine with Dr. Taylor at Barix Clinics of Michigan in Ypsilanti. This has been a long process that started in January 2018 because I had stage 4 osteoarthritis in my right hip. I have since had a total hip replacement but my left hip has stage 2 osteoarthritis. At 48, I am too young to feel this damn old. My orthopedic surgeon assures me that losing the extra weight will get me back to my dancing days with the Hubby. Thankfully, Hubby understands that I am doing this to get back to my old self and to be able to keep up with him.

I only have to do one day of clear liquids. My husband has plan a romantic weekend for us and I imagine I will have a few food funerals. I will then be back to no caffeine, no carbonated drinks, and eating to lose more weight before surgery, which is Sept 5th.

So in the last 5 months I have learned a few more things. In the beginning of March my hip injection only lasted a week so my Ortho said I would need to have a total hip replacement ASAP ( which was scheduled on May 29th, lol) He was willing to do the surgery because he knew I was still planning to go through WLS. The last two weeks were horrible - not allowed to take Aleeve since it is a blood thinner and Tylenol doesn't really work for me. I had my fair share of shots of Scotch just so I could fall asleep. When I woke up in the recovery room, the hip pain was gone. Yes I had muscle soreness (Anterior approach so they stretch the muscles in the front instead of cutting them in the back). Recovery was a breeze except that I gained some weight. Through all this I am still seeing my primary physician so my insurance will approve RNY. He went from being really leary and unhappy with my choice to total understanding about WLS. He has not had much experience with this and of course wanted to refer me to his hospital's bariatric surgeon. While I was very happy with them for my hip, I wanted a surgeon who only does bariatric and will be around for long term aftercare. My primary is now on board with that choice as well so that has been a wonderful improvement.
As for my Mom, I don't talk with her about bariatric surgery. There is no discussion with her after she makes up her mind. It is her way or your wrong. My Aunt (her sister) and I have a great relationship and she also knows the pains of trying to lose weight (which my mother never dealt with). After a long discussion on my reasoning and choices, my Aunt is all for it. I had Stage 4 osteoarthritis in my right hip which is now replaced but the post x-ray showed Stage 2 in my left hip. I can expect osteoarthritis in the rest of my joints as well. I explained that in order to preserve my new joint and to help the rest, I need to lose some serious weight fast. WLS will be the tool that will jump start my new lifestyle of healthy non-processed food and exercise.
What is really amazing to me is all of the support that I receive from work. Most are men who hear that I will be out on Medical sometime around September so I can have WLS done. The small amount of women that I work with have already had the surgery or understand why without me spelling out my reasons.

Great article Creekimp13! I hate that sometimes I still feel like that little girl who needs her Mommy's permission even though I go my own way. I know she will always have something negative to say when it comes to my weight. However, I am doing this for me. I just read your comment about 75% of bariatric patients end up divorced. That is scary. I am also doing this so I can get a hip replaced so I can keep traveling with my husband. He is also following a high Protein, low carb diet because it helps him feel better, especially with his joints. We both are in our 40's but feel like we are in our 80's! That is going to change for the better.

I had a similar discussion with my Mom. I purposely waited to tell her over the phone so if it went bad, I could hang up. It wasn't as bad as I thought but it still hurts. I wanted to say "after dieting on and off for 37 years your way and things not working, maybe this would be the tool that does work. Can't you be supportive - even if you have to be silent to do so? Thank God my husband keeps my perspective on track and makes me laugh during these stressful situations.

And another thing clothes related... I want to be able to buy all those super geeky cute t-shirts for my fandoms, and NOT have to buy the boxy men's versions because they don't make the nice girly ones in my size.

UGH. I read your post and got irrationally mad. It's the reason I didn't tell most people about my surgery beforehand. I don't need your unsolicited opinion on how *I* should handle *MY* body.
Maybe for them eating small portions and exercise worked. For me, I had a medical condition which wouldn't let my body lose weight. So despite eating right and exercising, it wasn't enough.
Next, it isn't about being skinny. It is about being healthy. My body is a car. I want what is under the hood to work well so I can drive it around for years to come. If good maintenance results in a good looking exterior, awesome. But that isn't the main goal.
Finally, f**k her for thinking it is the easy way out. The easy way out is doing nothing. The hard way is:
    * Accepting you need help. This one may sound easy but I know that for me, this was admitting that I couldn't handle this myself. It was admitting defeat.
    * Saving money for the doctor. Going to classes and education sessions for months to qualify for a major surgery.
    * Going on a strict diet prior to surgery.
*Staying on a strict diet after surgery.
*Staying on a strict diet and Vitamin routine for the rest of your life.
So the "easy" way out is an insanely strict diet and major surgery to get a tool installed?
Screw her. Sorry, you touched a nerve here. One of my husband's friends lived with us for about 6 months. He had gone from 350lbs to about 150 after getting diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. How did he do this? He switched from drinking a 12 pack of regular soda daily to a 12 pack of diet soda. Seriously, that was it and the weight evaporated off of him. I had to live with 6 months of watching him drink a gallon of milk a day, 12+ sodas daily and nothing but fast food, while he'd preach to me about how easy it was to lose weight if I just put in some effort. Meanwhile, I was weighing all of my meals, not touching carbs (or soda) and working out with no results.

This made me smile. I was very irritated that I have to do the 6 month physician approved diet. One of the main reasons, I am doing this is because I need a total hip replacement now. I have been through 6 months of shots in the hip while i try to lose weight as I trained to walk the 60 mile SGK 3 day. I understand that this is normal for my insurance to request this but is it better for my overall health when some days I am in pain just sitting? I will suck it up and do it but you can't make me like it!
Who am I kidding? I am going to have to like it because this will be my new lifestyle. On the positive side, I will use this 6 months to wean myself off of diet mt. dew and coffee. As Grandma always said, "This too shall pass and it will make you stronger."

Once upon a time I had a doctor ( not my Bariatric Surgeon, not even my current PCP) tell me: I'd like you to weigh 148 lbs. My answer: I would too but I don't see that it Will be happening without Bariatric Surgery. If wishing weight away would work none of us would be overweight.
