  1. Hello friends! Sorry I've been a bit absent lately. So I've got my surgery date- August 6. Doing the sleeve with Ultimate Bariatrics in Fort Worth. I start my 2 weeks pre-op diet tomorrow which consists of Protein Shakes, sugar free Jello, pudding, and popsicles, and Soup for dinner. The last 2 days are Clear Liquids only. Any tips for getting through this pre-op part would be appreciated because I have a feeling I'm going to be hungry a lot. I've been having a lot of food funerals, took photos and measurements, I've got my Vitamins and stuff. Thanks everyone!

  2. I did my 6th and final visit with the dietician Thursday! So they are submitting ASAP and I should have an answer from insurance within 2 weeks. Excited and nervous. I've been very busy and stressed at work and so I'm not looking forward to finding time to take off but my office manager is great at working with me. I'm a dental hygienist so basically we are just recheduling a week's patients, because I'm already booking appointments for December and January so there's no way around it. I can't plan my life 6-7 months in advance! Anyway, just wanted to update everyone. Looking forward to having some surgery buddies when I know my date!

  3. I have my 5th visit with dietician Thursday, I have to do 6 in total per my insurance company. I've been told they're sending in the pre-d and stuff after this appointment on Thursday so I'm hoping for surgery in July or August. I've already purchased some Protein products to taste test and see what I like. I'm doing the sleeve. CW 287, I'm 5'7" and 33 years old. So excited to finally feel comfortable in my own skin again! Congrats and good luck to everyone!

  4. My dietician is $50/visit for 6 visits (not covered by insurance). My psych eval is $400 (counts towards deductible) . My EGD is $700 (counts towards deductible). And my insurance deductible is $650. Co-insurance 10%. I'm expecting this whole thing to cost me $1500-2000 with my excellent health insurance.

  5. Hi all, I'm currently in my pre-op phase. Not sure if I will be having sleeve or bypass, depends on my EGD results on the 22nd. I'm hoping for sleeve. Anyway, some questions for those of you who are post-op and have reached their new "normal":

    1. Can you take pills? My gallbladder was removed in 2004 and I've been on PPI's ever since so not sure if I will still be able to?

    2. Does anyone still need to take PPI's now that I'm thinking about it? I suppose it's possible that surgery will eliminate the need for them!

    3. Carbonated beverages? My surgeon hasn't said much about them.

    4. Alcohol? I'm not an alcoholic or anything but I do enjoy a margarita or martini for my birthday!

I'm sure I'll have more questions, these are just what's on my mind lately. Thank you for your honest responses!

  6. I've told family and close friends and I have gotten some of the negative feedback- "your weight doesn't define you" "you just need to stick to a diet" "I've heard your hair will fall out" "you'll have to be really careful with your birth control because you'll be so fertile and then if you get pregnant that's really bad and you'll gain it all back". I kinda regret telling some of the people I have and honestly my biggest nay-sayers are the people in my life that are heavier than I am and that do not have the insurance/money/dedication to have the surgery themselves so I think they're trying to keep me in the fat club with them. Anyway, shake them haters off!

  7. Hello Kakat! Yes I am from Texas, born and raised! Proud to be a GRIT! People call me Luella although online I do use Luella Jean a lot. I'm not sure if I'm doing sleeve or bypass yet, will depend on my EGD results on the 22nd. Yay for your weightloss already!!! Thank you for your offer; I'm sure I will have tons of questions!
And hello Lyds! Glad to meet another newbie! What's your situation if you don't mind sharing?

  8. Hello all, I'm new! I'm Luella, from Texas. Married, one 14 year old son, obsessed with my 2 golden retrievers. I work in the dental field. I'm 33, 5'8" 271#. Heaviest I've ever been and miserable. I've got my surgeon and I did my second (of 6) visit with the dietician today. I have my psych eval scheduled next Friday. Both dietician visits and psych eval are requirements of my insurance company. I have an EGD scheduled on the 22nd so the surgeon can see if I have bile reflux (bile from my liver because my gallbladder was removed in 2004) and that will determine if I will have bypass or sleeve (I'm hoping for sleeve). Anyway, just wanted to quit being a lurker and introduce myself. My current orders from the dietician are to exercise lightly for 30 minutes 3 times a week and to eat dime sized bites of food 20-30 times with the goal of it taking 30+ minutes to eat my meal. This sounds insane to me at this point but I understand how/why it's necessary and will always be necessary so I'm going to try! Anyone with words of wisdom or questions or whatever, let me know. Hopefully my surgery will be in June-ish so I'll need a surgery buddy or 2 by then. Thanks for reading!
