  1. Mine is not so,much worried about last minute forced weight loss with a liquid diet, he'd rather we have a balanced, low carb diet immediately prior to surgery. Surprised me too, I thought he would want the liver shrunk and the bowels relatively clear of fecal junk. Well you know what they say about assume my friends.

  2. My issue is I am always hungry. I can eat till satisfied and 30 mins later I'm starving. I have tried drinking Water when I feel hungry, changing my activities but no matter what I'm still hungry. I ate the other night till I ended up being in pain but I was still hungry. Hoping the sleeve will help with the reduction of ghrelin being produced.

  3. Im the same. I only told my partner and my sister. Its not that i care for people to know i just don't want to broadcast it. I told one friend and it was just a negative vibe and stories she heard. I just dont want to hear all of that. I dont expect people to understand especially if they havent struggled the way i have with my weight. Im trying to figure ways to tell my job about the week off i am going to take off i dont care for any one at the work place to know my business. Def going to follow this thread to see what people say.

  4. I had surgery 7/24 at UMass with Dr.Kelly. I met all requirements early but then was buying a house and other stressful things so I put it off for a couple months. I hit my goal weight of 160lbs the beginning of November and have been maintaining 155-160 since then. My surgeon has said I am a picture perfect post VSG patient. No vomiting, food issues, hair loss etc.
    good luck!

Ahhh omg good for you! I always here good feedback about Dr Kelly. Wow how are you handling managing your weight? Do you find it hard? That is my goal as well 160-180.

  5. So my dietitian and psychologist finally signed off on me to take the pre surgical classes and post nutrition classes! Woohoo its starting to be sureal. Those are my last appointments to attend in march before meeting with my surgeon.

Any who i found out we are not required to do the 2 week liquid diet prior surgery. Did any one else not have to do that as well? If so, did your drs tell you why?

Idk why but for some reason i was looking foward to doing the pre 2 week liquid diet. Lmao

  6. That's what I was told. I'm just nervous and can't wait to see what the dietician says next week. The surgeon will not even do the first consult with me till after I do my 6 months

Dont be nervous. Just go in learn as much as you can be honest with them and yourself. I didnt receive like a diet plan she just gave me pointers. My issue was i went long stretches with out eating and when i ate i ate a lot. So my dietitian wanted me to eat more frequent small healthy meals. From what i got out of it they just want to learn your pattern correct anything that your doing wrong. Seeing if you may or may not have an eating disorder or any type of emotional eating. You will do great! Im excited for you for taking the first step! Woohoo

  7. Did anyone have to do a 6 month medically supervised plan for their insurance? What did it include? What was the meal plan from the dietician like?
Sent from my SM-S327VL using BariatricPal mobile app

Yes, i have to do a medically supervised weight managment plan for 6 months. Basically i have 1 appt for 6 months. Each appt is different. Im 4-5 months in now. First month i did a weigh in met with the surgeon he explain the process to me(oct). The next month i met with a psychologist(nov). The next i had a group nutrition class after that i met 1 on 1 with the nutritionist (same month.dec) i met with the nutritionist again in jan. She signed off on me to take the surgical courses. This month i met with psychologist again she signed off for me to take the surgical course as well. In march i have my final 3 appts. The surgical courses. A nutrition class for post surg. And to meet with a workout trainer (not required). Then im not sure what happens after that i think ill meet with surgeon again in april and hopefully submit for approval. Do not miss an appointment some people have to start the 6 month process all over if 1 month is missed.

  8. Thanks for everyone's input [] as I said, I'm going to continue in this program due to the convenience of the hospital and the fact I do have an established relationship with the nutritionist but I am still a bit weary of the surgeon.
I'm glad I have this forum.

  9. Anyone have any experience with this? I've had Cigna throughout the process and my surgery is scheduled for November 1. On September 28th my husband's company informed the staff that a new insurance company was taking over on October 1st. I am working on this every day and we are hoping for the best. Initially they said if we could provide the approval letter from Cigna that they would automatically approve me. However, we never fully submitted to Cigna, that was set for October 1st. The new company is Fallon Health, they are located in Massachusetts which is where my husbands employer is based.
    Any tips greatly appreciated.

I have fallon health. Are the requirements different?

  10. Well I'm finally at my half way mark. With my insurance Fallon Health, it is requiring me to go under 6 month supervision weight loss plan. I met with a nutrionist twice. She finally signed off today to clear me. I met with psychologist and did a group nutrition class. I just signed up for an appointment with the psychologist again next month and an appointment with an exercise instructor in march. Is anyone from the boston/worcester area? Anyone at the half way mark? What is left on your checklist?

Stats: im 5'6 240-250 and 26 years old

  11. My program tells us we can expect to lose about 1/3 of our starting weight. Ideally I’d like to get to about 1/2- that would put me in a healthy weight category for my height. But honestly I can’t wrap my head around that. I’m currently 33 years old and probably haven’t been that weight since junior high.

In the end I’m looking forward to having more energy, less pain, and being healthy.

I’m just impressed that journaling, changing my eating behaviors, and drinking Water is actually helping me to lose weight before the surgery. So I’m excited to see what these changes will do when combined with the surgery.

    How about you?

Thats great that your already losing before surgery and gaining healthy habbits. At the end of the day its really just instilling healthy long term habbits for the process to really work. Def cheering for you and everyone on here! Im excited to find a forum with people with similar goals its really motivating and encouraging hearing everyones journy.

  12. Hi everyone! I am a “newbie” here, and I’m also new to the *Wonderful World of Weight-loss Surgery*. I started my process in November, my insurance requires a consecutive 6 month physician supervised diet,my appointment next week will make month 3 for me(halfway mark yay!!). This is my first time making a post, I mostly get on here to just read research, but I noticed that everyone is either post-op, or already on the liquid diet, so I’m looking for people to connect with that are currently still going through the process before approval like me...a little about myself: My name is Jaz I am 25yrs old.
    MY STATS:
    Height: 5”6
    CW: 243(give or take)
    HW: 250
    GW: 140
    BMI:39

Hey girl ! Joining this journey with you! (Along with a lot of others) Im so glad i came across someone with sililar stats height and weight. Did any of the doctor's you met with say anything about your bmi being boarder line 40?

  13. I’m hoping for a Spring date as well. I started last Summer with the informational seminar but given my history, the doctors wanted to make sure the WLS would be successful so I had to jump through a few extra hoops before officially being accepted into the program. Luckily though, my insurance only requires 3 months, so I should be able to have the sleeve done the end of April/beginning of May. I’m really excited, nervous, ready, anxious, etc. but I know this is the tool I need to finally lose all this weight.

Hey i have stared my journey in october. My insurance requires 6 months so im already half way. Im hoping for april surgery. So im right there with you! What are some of your weight goals?
