  1. Hi All. I am almost two weeks out and on what is called the full liquid diet by my surgeon. Basically, they added skim milk, 4 oz of yogurt, 2 oz of no sugar added applesauce and 2oz of sugar free pudding.
The SF pudding, in my opinion, is not really necessary except for the texture and taste but I can live without it. I will say that before the RNY I thought the SF pudding wasn't sweet at all and now wow it sure is sweet lol.
The dannon light and fit greek yogurt is healthier - no fat, lots of Protein, etc. No sugar added applesauce is ok and the only fruit I can have so I eat it.
Thing is, I don't really want to eat more than 800 calories a day so I'm cutting out the pudding and eating only the 4oz of yogurt and the 2oz of applesauce.
My question is this. I am not gulping my Protein Shake or Water but I sure can drink it faster than I could when I just had surgery. I also went to the movies and ate a whole yogurt over a period of an hour.
Do you guys think that it can stretch my pouch if I drink down more than a sip at a time of liquid or eat that yogurt in an hour? Thanks.

My surgeon had the same procedure on himself and he says that taking time to eat is the best way to not to stretch it. He also said only to eat when my full attention is on the food. Sounds like you taking an hour to eat a yogurt is a good thing! I would usually eat a yogurt preop in minutes!

  2. That’s great to hear, LivingLife100. I’m glad we can go through journey together. I’m only one week behind you. What did you find was your biggest challenge? What makes you say this is a great tool? How are you feeling 5 days out? Do you notice any other change besides a decrease in hunger and appetite? I would definitely appreciate any information you could share. I have excellent “veteran” ESGers on this forum who have provided me with invaluable info about the procedure but I am always looking for more experiences especially since yours was so very recent. Thank you and I hope we can reach our goal together.

Biggest challenge was just getting over the fear of surgery due to wanting to be there for my family. People here have been amazingly supportive and helped me jump that one. The next challenge thus far is just keeping that hydration up all day long! I feel really good (crazy!) 5 days out. I'm exhausted but can still walk around and "be a Mom". My DH has fully taken over laundry and other strenuous housekeeping tasks. I am irritable [emoji23] I am more quick to be annoyed by too much sound and such. I'm sure that will pass. [emoji23].

My dietian and also my trainer likened my weight loss journey thus far like this:
Before the surgery, you are trying to dig a big hole....with a spoon. You are amazingly focused and diligent but sometimes when you look up and see how long it takes with such effort, you just want to throw your spoon at the neighbors' home. The neighbors have huge shovels since birth and are very proud of them. Your humble spoon works but takes great diligence and time.
After surgery, (and I already can tell the difference with the feeling in my stomach and am adjust my mentality also), you have a new tool! It is an awesome big shovel! Now instead of spoonfuls for the effort you are shoveling great big chunks! You still have to be diligent and put in the effort; this new tool is so much more joyous and less frustrating to use than then one we have had our whole lives. Heck, no wonder some people enjoy digging!

Other changes: mostly mental for me. If I was willing to go to these lengths, then I am worth continuing that journey. So glad to share our journeys!

  3. Thanks so much Tex! I just breathed a sigh of relief. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who struggled with this. Whew! I’m looking forward to this now.
Btw, my children think I’m getting an endoscopic test done. My husband will be the only one who knows and so did my late mother of course. So you’re right that becoming healthy will be a great example to set for them. Although my 4 boys are and were all wrestlers so their fitness and activity level is already up there. I feel like the odd man out in my household so to speak. It would be great to just participate more actively with them. I have written about this with Mel and being more active in addition to getting the weight off is the main goal. Thanks again Tex!

Same goals that I have! Day 5 postop and I can tell this is a great tool to get us to that goal!

  4. You guys are so right about the fullness! Day 3 post op and taking the TINIEST sips through the water bottle all day long! And 2 sips and I'm done. I get to 40oz. and then it is nighttime. 😂I used to drink that much in an hour! I had a postop and IV today just to keep me hydrated. feel good despite the soreness. Small kid sized Dixie cups are great to dish out small serving sips of Protein Drink and broth in. Jello, sugar free Protein pudding and pureed black bean Soup are going down well - just keeping it to 2 small spoonfuls. Pretty tired by the end of the day with walking and the postop trip. Hope you all have a good night's rest! Pain has woke me up very early the last 2 nights. Sweet dreams! So thankful to share our journey together! #teamjanuary30th

  5. By the way, livinglife100, did you have the ESG done yesterday? There are not too many people who have had it. I would appreciate you sharing your experiences since I will be a week after you. Thanks again.

I had gastric sleeve with the incisions. I was not covered for the endoscopic and wish I was! Lucky you! I am doing well. Take Chapstick! Sip, sip, sip and walk and rest. [emoji120][emoji173]️

  6. I'm postop 1 day and Ibwas very nervous before but all these lovely bariatricpals helped me through! I have kids too. My dr said would you expect someone with a bad knee to not get knee surgery and just hobble around the rest of their life? No! They get the surgery. We are hobbling around in life and need help. My dr had the GS on himself! We can do this! No more hobbling in life!

  7. Thank you everyone for your encouragement and good vices and prayers! I read them all right before going into surgery. It went well. I'm feeling pretty chipper and much better than I imagined - as long as I keep up with the pain meds! Walked, walked, walked and sipped, sipped, sipped. Thank you for the Chapstick suggestion - priceless! I have never had such a dry mouth! I am super tired. I'll check back in to see how all of you are doing! 😘❤️💯
