  1. I had RNY gastric bypass just recently. I don’t get the hungry sensation in my stomach ( you know growling and noises ) but my brain tells me to eat eat eat and I just ignore it or drink fluids. It is very much a mental issue, because I am so new to this process. I am measuring my food out and weighing it just to get in the habit of eating less for once I am further out. If I finish it, I finish it and if I don’t I don’t, but after 30 mins I discard it and I don’t drink anything while I eat. I agree with what the post above says in regards to actual hunger and mental hunger. Just do your best and talk your feelings. Remember why you did this in the first place. It is a very difficult journey, but just remind yourself everyday and push through. I hope things get better for you.

    February Surgery Buddies!

Hey everyone I know everyone is about STATS post op. I had my one week status post RNY 2/7/18 appointment today. Everything seems to be healing well however I am somewhat dehydrated and low potassium. I woke up today with pain in my calves almost like cramping. I am still struggling on liquid intake let alone getting food in for my purée stage plus all the vitamins. (FYI it is some hard ass work). Other than all of that, I am off Diabetes meds hopefully forever, and my sugar has been under 100 so that has been the biggest success of all this. I got weighed for the first time since surgery..... drum roll.... the scale said 250...... I also had jeans on and forgot to remove my keys and phone plus I didn’t have a BM until after the appointment, so I am thinking maybe a pound or two less if not I should be under 250 by the end of this week....... so this is when I say it has been worth it good luck to all and if you have questions let me know.... everyone’s journey is different..... HW 298lbs SW 260lbs CW 250lbs and counting. yay!! GW 170lbs

    February Surgery Buddies!

Happy Wednesday to all..... although we can’t have chocolates, cookies, heart shaped cakes, cupcakes, or whatever we want on Valentine’s Day we are gaining health....... I do wish everyone the best. Started purée diet today and has been good. I had an egg in the morning.... went down well but it took forever to eat, I indulged earlier with one tbsp of creamy peanut butter and called it lunch haha , idk if I will do dinner because I need to bump up my protein intake so I have been sipping on protein water. This is a real adjustment! I made marinara rotini and turkey meatballs for my kiddo (his fav) and husband. Omg! Smelled delightful, but I didn’t break. I hope everyone is having and continues to have a good day!!!! By the way..... the clear protein drink Premier Protein is so delicious. I slip it half and half with a water bottle. Taste great and gets me 10 grams of protein per bottle. If you can handle the sweetness, then don’t water it down and drink as is for 20 grams of protein per bottle.

    Dehydration

I am definitely experimenting. Trying my best! I was somewhat dehydrated yesterday and managed to get fluids in throughout the night plus some Powerade zero and I am feeling 10x better today. Thanks!
  9. Can we use sugar free Powerade or Gatorade to prevent dehydration?
  10. Just had RNY 2/7/18. I was very upfront with my closest co-workers when I first started this trip. They were very supportive. I know some people want to hide it. I feel no shame in what I have done and nothing about this is easy. It is a new chapter in my book and hopefully one to many more chapters. This has been the hardest and most emotional time of my life, but I love myself fat or skinny. I just did this for health concerns and to be a better role model to my child. Whether you decide to tell people or not, I would wait until you file for medical leave, FMLA, or not say anything until you come back. You want to have that secure before saying anything to reduce the risk of replacement. If you are not going to apply for a leave of absence and just use PTO, I would take a good 2 weeks off. I do not feel ready to head back to work. I do not feel like I could be successful at work if I haven’t been at home. I got approved 6 weeks, I don’t think I will need 6 weeks, but this is my transformation phase, so again I want to be as prepared as I can. Good luck on your journey!!! Make sure this is what you want.

    February Surgery Buddies!

Officially post op RNY gastric bypass 2/7/18. All of you will do great. I start my purée diet on Wednesday 2/14 and I am looking forward to it. Been on liquids since February 4th. I could not imagine people that do liquid diets weeks in advance or a month prior. Good luck to all. For me, I still have gas post surgery despite walking. So be prepared for a lot of gas although I hope you all get lucky with no gas pain !!!! Lol....... as of now, my only struggle is getting all my protein and liquid in , but I am working hard on it. I refuse to get on the scale until I see my doctor on Thursday, but below are STATs as of surgery date. Ht: 5’6” HW- 298lbs SW- 260lbs CW- N/A GW-170lbs
  13. Hi, I am post-op RNY 2/7/18 and determined to get my protein in so I have tried to be creative for Phase 1 of my full-liquid diet. This is just me wanting to share for anyone wanting to try it out. I am not a fan of the protein shakes. I have yet to make decaf with protein premier. #1- Protein Creamy Jell-O 8oz vanilla Premier Protein shake 8oz Fairlife Milk 4oz water 2.5 tbsp of plain gelatine Warm 4oz of water and mix jell-o packs add to the milks and divide into 2oz cups. Let sit in fridge for 1 hour. Mixture makes 12 x 2oz cups. Each one should total to about 2.9 grams of protein per 2oz cup. They are good. Remember to mix really well in water before adding to cold milk. You don’t want any lumps. I am not the best at typing up recipes so I apologize. #2 Protein Broth 16oz Sams Choice Vegan Protein Broth (9 grams per serving Protein) 4 oz Cream of Chicken ( 2 grams per serving Protein) 4 oz Chicken Broth (2 grams per serving Protein) Heat all in small sauce pot or microwave. I prefer in a sauce pot. Per 2oz portion it is 2.2 grams of protein. It may not seem like a lot, but Protein adds up and taste better warm or in texture vs liquid all the time. Good luck to everyone. Again, I am just placing down a couple of things I tried today and it seemed to help. Just my experience to yours. Also reminder low sodium and low fat items. Good luck!!!! If anyone else has other recipes, shoot them over. I would love to try new stuff!!
  14. Yum writing down some of this. Yes omg I don’t want to stick to the bland stuff I love flavors and texture. Plus makes each day fun when you wake up and feel chef life haha. Thanks!

    Pre Op Diet Nightmare

Do you make your own decaf? I don’t believe they sell one that is cold brew?

    Protein Powders

    Decaf? Hot coffee?
  17. Does anyone know of a protein powder that is flavorless and mixable in water that would not change the texture or taste of water? I hope sure there has to be one out there? Just having a hard time with all the protein shakes and not getting enough protein. Thanks! Any other suggestions work as well, I am here to hear out everyone that knows the tricks and best way to approach this situation.
  18. JazmaniaRNY

    Protein Powders

Yep only got 31 grams of protein yesterday. Well over half off. I have been looking at Isopure might be an option that you can add to anything. For sure sucks not being able to drink what needs to be.
  19. Just had my gastric bypass yesterday. I was not feeling well at all. Happy to say I am getting discharged today however I can’t seem to tolerate liquids that is not water or jello. Any recommendations? I am super bloated and cramping from gas pain. Any way to work it out of my system faster? I am very uncomfortable. Also constipation.... when did you guys start taking stool softeners or did you not require it? I really only had water these past two days and I know I need to incorporate protein somehow but makes me ver nauseas. Let me know what worked for everyone?

    2/7/18 RNY

Thanks been walking like crazy feeling better.
  22. I am scheduled tomorrow 2/7/18 and can’t be happier. I am hopeful everything will be fine. I am curious to know why other people decided to have WLS? For me, I hate diabetes , I miss running that feeling you get when the wind hits your face pure freedom(not that I can’t run now but damn it is hard-does not feel like freedom lol), I want to be the best possible role model for my child/family in all aspects, and to live longer to enjoy life. I am beautiful now so it is not to feel beautiful or be prettier. I already love myself, but life happens and being Hispanic- I love food! I am scared, excited, and all emotions I can’t think of. I am just curious to know what made you do it?

    Home work-out vs gym

Any preference? Being a mom, working, and having lots to do already just would like to hear how people fix exercising at the gym in vs exercising at home. My ideal workout routine would be to incorporate my family, but I am afraid I will get lazy. What works for everyone? Any suggestions? Right now my routine is work out from home I don’t have a consistent routine but I do work out 3-4 days a week at least 30 minutes at home.
  24. The question is what do you want. This does not sound like love. My husband doesn’t want me to have this either- he has many reasons. He has been tremendously supportive though because it is my body and my life. If your husband says he will leave, let him leave. This might be emotionally hard for you at first, but take care of yourself. This is your life and you only get one. You are not ugly-Love yourself and be positive. Life is so short and I know you know this. There can be complications with this surgery, but chances are small. If you follow doctors orders, you will do great. Sounds like you don’t feel so well now- your body is becoming a complication now so take care of yourself, please love yourself, and if you want this you can have this. You are worth it. I am due to have my surgery February 7th and hope you will join all of us on May 8th with your journey. Good luck!

    Weight gain pre-op

I typically always gain before my period and yes it comes about 3-4 days before it happens. No I have not had anymore salt than usual. If at all decreased salt intake this week. Thank you, it is a change that my family made with me so I am thankful for them because it would have been impossible to do with our prior eating habits. My kiddo is still adjusting to not being able to snack on everything and drinking lots of water.
