  1. Its completely normal to feel this way. I was sad at first too but it does pass. Right now you have FOMO. All I can say is the food will always be there. Now you have to find other ways to occupy your time. Its just now becoming clear that food was the center our worlds revolved around. I'm 6 weeks out and 32 lbs. down. This is the best decision of my life. Believe me it does get better.

  2. Hello All,

I am a little over 5 weeks out and 30 lbs. down. I am 12 lbs. away from Onederland which I am very excited about. Some of my clothes are starting to fit big and most of my clothes are just starting to fit comfortably. This surgery has been a big confidence booster. I am feeling a bit tired but I attribute the fatigue to my lack of Protein. I'm in my soft foods stage now so I'm going to try Protein Bars because I'm tired of Protein Shakes. Mentally, cravings and hunger are getting easier. I'm really happy for everyone, this was the best decision we could've made for ourselves.

  3. I had my post op visit on May 31st and I have lost 22 lbs. since my pre op visit on May 8th. TWENTY-TWO pounds in THREE weeks! I was shook lol and to top it off I got the green light to move on to pureed foods. Applesauce and avocado are my faves at the moment. Still struggling to get in my Protein but I know it will get easier. My doctor wants me back in the office in 3 months and wants me to lose 15 lbs. or more. I feel like that is going to be a piece of cake! In case anyone is wondering I am 5'2 and now weigh 220 lbs.

I know I’ve had regrets I can’t cheer myself up with some nice food I enjoy. I haven’t really regretted surgery as can see my weight dropping much more easily than on any diet. I am trying to listen to my body more and I am definitely telling the difference between head hunger and actual hunger now. With practice you can push the cravings away somewhat. Certainly more than I did before surgery. It’s funny-this week all I can think about eating is a cheese and salad sandwich. I think it’s because my body is longing for some fresh crisp food after so much mush and liquids.

Salads with grilled chicken are definitely the 1st thing I'm going to eat when my can eat solids again. I'm sure it's just the food restrictions right now that have me feeling regretful but I'm sure it'll pass. I can already see a difference and so can those around me so that's motivating

  5. I am 11 days post op. And I find myself feeling a bit down. Part of it is because of this liquid dietthat I'm so over. I have to force myself to drink liquids because I'm so over it. But another part is I feel a void that cannot be filled. I underestimated Just how challenging this was going to be Mentally. It's crazy but I actually started having thoughts of regret thinking about how I can't eat the way I used to. I've been writing in my journal and that's helped but I just wonder if anyone else is feeling the same way.

I’m 2 days away and I’m so ready. I’m just worried as I gotta travel and go back to work only 6 days post op... anyone did the same? Went back to work in 6-7 days post op?

I went back 8 days post op and I was just fine. I am at my desk for most of the day so take that into consideration. Good luck!

  8. I went back to work yesterday and I was so surprised by all the compliments! My coworkers all say that they can see a difference already and it's only been 9 days. I keep this in mind when I start to feel tired of this liquid stage. I hope everyone is staying strong!

My surgery was on the 15th as well. I didn’t have very bad gas pains- a couple in the chest but they went away soon. How much are you eating? I’m between 1-2oz every 3 hours. Mainly sticking to Protein and focusing on getting in Water, but both have been hard to get all. My stomach likes to gurgle and i burp quite a bit. I usually take it as I am full. I don’t really feel hungry or full.

I am honestly not really counting water/liquid intake. As long as I'm peeing I take it that I'm getting enough fluids. The Protein I am tracking and so far today I've had about 30 grams of my 60-80 goal. I am burping as well and the gurgling was non stop until today. There are time when I sip and I feel this tightness in my tummy as the Fluid goes down. Its not all the time but I stop for about 15 to 20 minutes until I try sipping again. This may be TMI but I have gone #2 maybe like 4 times already and its been very watery. My incisions are starting to itch today as well (No drainage). I also have been cooking for my daughter and husband and it made me a little sad that I couldn't eat lol I have to keep reminding myself that this liquids stage is only temporary.

  10. So I had surgery on May 15th! The day of surgery I was so excited that the day had finally come. I tried to take in the moment and remember as much as possible. Let me tell you as soon as that anesthesia is given to you it is LIGHTS OUT! The next thing I remember is waking up in pain, my throat was super sore and irritated (that didn't last long for me that pain was gone the same day). Then I knocked out again and when I did wake up I was already in my private room. My husband was amazing and super supportive and was like my own personal nurse helping me get out of the hospital bed to use the RR. The day after surgery I was able to drink Water but honestly did not want to. Days 1 and 2 were the worst. Mostly just pain and GAS PAINS( walking really helps)! I'm 3 days post op today and I honestly feel so great. No need for any pain meds and the incision sites themselves are just a bit sore. I'm drinking primer Protein Shakes, broth and crystal light. Tomorrow I'll try Jello but my main focus is the Protein shakes. I go back to work on Wednesday and I feel completely okay to (desk job). Anyway that has been my experience so far. I hope everyone is doing well. And for those still waiting on surgery let me tell you it gets better. Just remind yourself that the the pain is only temporary.

Same here about the hubby. I had to watch a video last night, it was a Bariatric surgery class from the hospital I’ll be having it done at...the whole time we’re watching it, he was breathing heavy...rubbing his face...looking all worried lol...I’m hoping his nerves calm down a lot before then or it’ll make my anxiety higher. He wants what’s best for me and has been on board since it’s something that I want...but I wish he would see it has a ‘need’ not a ‘want’...I’ve been heavy most of my life. I have an almost 7 year old that I want to be able to do things with instead of sitting on the sidelines watching her dad do everything.

Yes! I feel you on that. My hubby also says dumb things like he doesn't want my body to be mismatched or for me to have a big head. I told him that losing this weight and gaining confidence is more important to me than anything. I have also been big for most of my life. I have a countdown on my dry erase board here at work, 34 days till surgery!

I just found out from my insurance company that I was approved! They told me the date of 5/15...I am guessing that is my surgery date? I haven't heard from the doc office yet! I am on the lower end of the BMI..

    HW: 202

    CW: 199

    GW: 130

    BMI: 35

    Height: 5'3"

I am excited for my journey to start to get my health back on track and start anew!

Yay we have the same surgery date! Super excited and growing impatient!

I am nervous...but the nerves go up and down. I have a feeling it will be overwhelming the day of surgery... my liquid diet is 3 days prior to surgery. I have my pre op on April 26th. How are you coping with it all?

Overall I'm excited. I think my husband is more nervous than I am. I feel like its so far away and I wish I would have scheduled the surgery sooner. 3 days is awesome! I'm not at all looking forward to a week on liquids.

I had my surgery yesterday. I was sent home today. I packed one pair of yoga pants, a t-shirt, socks and a toothbrush. It was more than enough. PACK LIGHT!

The yoga pants were ok for me however, I probably should have packed something a little bit more loose fitting. Keep that in mind. You don’t want anything hugging your incision sites.

How is your recovery coming along?

Super helpful information! Thank you :)

  17. Hello,

I was approved for surgery last Thursday and scheduled the actual surgery date for May 15th. I am beyond excited! I am pleased with how smooth the insurance approval went. It took one day to get an approval so thankfully I did not have to wait. Anyone else have surgery in May? And for those of you who have already had surgery what do I pack in my hospital bag? I am so looking forward to this next chapter in my life.
