This makes me giggle because I watched The Great British Baking Show obsessively after my surgery on my 3 week leave. I hate baking shows typically but that’s all I could watch! And now I hate them again but right after surgery it was oddly just want I wanted.

OMG, I watched 2 seasons of Bake-Off as well. Had no desire for food, but was perfect mental speed that first week.

  2. Ok so I got cocky because I’d been doing so well on Day 15. I figured rather that my egg beaters with a little bit of milk and cheese, I’d try an egg bite from Starbucks. I figured same relative ingredients, high protein/low carb and was soft. I ate it slowly and chewed a lot.

Stomach was quite no bueno for a bit. Almost puked at work 🙄. Lesson learned. Stick to only things I control the ingredients in making.

i'm 4 days post op and have had near diarrhea for all my BM's. :( other than that it's been pretty good. pain is very minimal. and i just realized that i havent had any diabetic foot pain since op day. yay! i'm off ALL pre op meds. now just on ritidine (sp?) to protect against gall stones. stuff tastes horrible! but the lesser of 2 evils i guess. i still nap a lot.

I had a similar problem. Try a Protein other than whey and see if that helps.

  4. Has anyone lost 15+ pounds with no apparent size change? I think my stomach is still bloated.

I'm probably just paranoid. I'm actually freaking because I stopped peeing all the time, and now I think I'll lose no more weight. It's so hard to be zen and just follow the process.

I made them give me everything thro IV I wouldn’t drink anything by mouth or eat. I had some ice chips but for the most part I didn’t eat the 3 days I was there. When I got home I felt better and experimented with liquids. Even the Gatorade that i now drink and like the orange G2 I wouldn’t drink it while I was at the hospital lol. I didn’t try either or forced myself. It wasn’t something i felt necessary to put myself through, I already had iv’s and I had a line for Med do I requested everything through my line.

Yo-Yo Girl from New York City :)

One of my requirements for discharge was that I was able to consume fluids and Proteins myself. Some hospitals (or surgeons) may require this for discharge.

  6. Guess I’m the weird one. I had BM first day out of hospital, but less of a Constipation issue than diarrhea at first. Doing less dairy helped some of that. Walking a lot seems to help.

I’m going to try some small curd cottage cheese tomorrow (Day8) and see how that goes. I made some Protein pudding tonight in case the experiment goes well. No trouble with liquids, but if I add Fiber supplement, it takes an hour to finish 8oz.

Had my 1week follow-up today with my PCP, and she gave me something to help me sleep through the night because that seems to be one of my major issues right now.

  7. I’m on Day 4, and the hernia repair resulting in stitches to my diaphragm seems to cause the most issues. When I walk, it feels tight when I need to breath deeply, but it is getting better.

I’m already sick of all the sweet stuff snd the plain Bone Broth is not so awesome. So today I tried two different things. I had Decaf coffee with a Premier Protein as “creamer”. It took me 3 1/2 hours to finish 1 1/2 large mugs but that was 30g of Protein. I also went and got a large egg drop Soup for lunch and had 1 cup, chewing the eggs before swallowing. That was awesome. Lastly, supper was a Protein2o drink that took about 45min to finish. I got all my chewable vitamins in.

The past two days, I felt a little nauseous in the morning so I took one of my pills, and the rest of the day I felt fine.

sleeping seems to suck. I’ve not yet slept through the night, waking up after 3 hours, probably because I’m a stomach/side sleeper and hate sleeping on my back. Anyone else sleeping propped up?

Bad headache today for some reason so I took some of my Tylenol. Otherwise no pain pills since Day 2.

I’m crazily watching the Great British Bake Off, but I’m not tempted by the sweet stuff. I want some cheese or meat. This will be a long two weeks at full liquid and I hate the aspartame aftertaste already...

I think I may try liquid cream of wheat tomorrow with some unflavored protein as a change of pace. Anyone else have something more creative they are doing for full liquid phase?

  8. I’m only on day 2 and liquids are going down slow but fine as well. I got in 34oz of Protein day 1 and 54oz protein yesterday. I may get close to 60 today.

If I didn’t see others on this board with this same experience, I’d think mine was not working as well.

My surgeon also said I could do my spin bike now (no jogging or hills, just light pedaling) as well as walking. I have a 20# weight restriction.

He told me to just gradually ramp up and if it hurts, stop.

  9. Wow. I had my sleeve on 5/23. The first day in the hospital I could only order Clear Liquids. I had a total of 3 2/3c of broth (approx 4g pro), 2 servings of sf Jello, 1 Protein Water (24g pro) and 3 sf popsicles (so good). This was between approximately noon and 9:30pm.

Next day, released to full liquids and had 1c of carnation instant Breakfast with Protein Powder and skim milk and small cup of hot tea for breakfast at 7am and one more sf popsicle until discharge. Once home, I slowly got down a Premier Protein drink spread out in two sessions, plus my Multi Vitamins with water over the 6hrs before bed. Stomach has some wicked gurgles today and I burp some when drinking hot stuff or milkish Protein Drinks.

Only pain is from my upper diaphragm. I learned from surgeon wasn’t from gas like I originally thought but from the hernia repair as he’d had to make a few stitches in my diaphragm.

Been using only Tylenol every 4 hours to stay on top of any pain.

Overall doing well but already finding not hungry so I need to remember to keep water or protein in my hand when awake.

Still sleeping in 2 to 3 hour Patches.

  10. So, I’ve been able to do 5 laps. The major pain is gas pain in upper abdomen and between shoulders and breasts.

Clear liquids (broth, Water, sf Jello, Protein water) are going fine. I’m currently around 29g of protein (goal btw 30-40) and 34oz of liquid (goal btw 30-40).

Peed but can’t seem to pass the gas out. Never thought I’d look forward to fart.

Mostly hard to sit still for so long (not my typical nature). I brought my iPad and phone but TV had too many food commercials

  11. As you age, I’ve found the extra weight becomes more of an issue. My glucose keeps creeping up to the pre-diabetic zone, joint issues may soon become a problem, its harder to lose weight/easier to gain more and harder to get back into shape if I stop working out consistently.

That’s why I’m doing this now before I start to experience future health issues as a result of the excess weight.

  12. I care not all about a certain number on the scale.

For me, I’m aiming for a particular clothes size. If a can become and maintain size 16R (I’m 5’ 11”) - by this I mean a linen dress from banana Republic 16R - and be able to wear a bra from Victoria Secret, I’d dance in the streets.

  13. I’m scheduled for the 23rd.

I’m just making lists and preparing as best I can - have my Protein water/drinks/powder, making Bone Broth and sf jello/popsicles with protein, made a protein/liquid/vitamin daily checklist, cleaning fridge and house, etc. I already culled my closet to organize it by things that soon may not fit, things that can work for awhile and things that I hope may son fit again. I’m also trying to get things at work organized so I won’t feel any need to check in for at least a week.

This is keeping me busy so I don’t start to worry or stress. I still can’t believe how close it is to the day.

  14. Good Day! It's me again..lol
    Next question/issue:
I'm a vegetarian and prefer eating whole natural foods. I'm concerned about all the "non-fat" "sugar-free" "food" that it looks like I'm going to have to eat! So processed, chemical filled, ugh..
HELP! My tentative date is September 24th

I’ve moved to a Paleo/Whole 30 diet which typically limits dairy, grains, legumes, and all processed food sources. I’m finding substitutes with more natural sources where I can, but I’ve also just accepted that the first few months, it’s more important to hit my Protein and hydration goals however possible and gradually work back to the way I plan to eat the rest of my life once my stomach has healed, and I can tolerate a variety of foods again.

I figure this process is going to be hard enough without adding more complications at the beginning when I’m barely able to eat anything.

So, I’ll be doing Protein infused Water and sf Jello with added whey protein and Premier Protein shakes. I have found Paleo and Vegan protein powder which I will use in my jellos and shakes.

Vegetarian broth won’t have the Proteins Bone Broth offers so you’d have to add unflavored protein sources. However, I’ve been told you can’t add the protein when the broth is hot or it will break down the protein and become gloopy.
