  1. It's official, all of my prescriptions that are due to weight-related health issues have been cut in half or eliminated.
  2. I told a few people I was having surgery, but didn't go into specifics. If anyone asks how I lost weight, I plan to tell them. No sense in lying about it.
  3. OMG me too! I've been wanting to make a beer can chicken since I was on the pre-surgery diet! Hopefully I can in a little less than a month...hopefully...
  4. If you're like me, and you could suck down water no problem using a water bottle with a straw, but you're not allowed those post-surgery, and you find it really hard to drink water in sufficient quantities from a wide-mouth bottle, I highly recommend the below: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EPGMN1E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The water just flows into you and keeps you hydrated.
  5. I had a square of plain cheese thin crust from Domino’s last week and tolerated it well. Then tonight I had a bite of my wife’s red beans and rice from Yat’s. Fortunately I can still tolerate spicy foods.
  6. Oh, it was yummy. Very, very yummy. And much less than the super-sizes Blizzard with whipped cream I would have gotten once upon a time.
  7. Today I learned that the cargo pants that barely fit on me in September are too big on me. The downside is, they’re out of stock in the next size down.
  8. Yesterday I had a value-sized cup of soft serve from Sonic. I ate it all using the tiniest of bites and tolerated it well. And then this morning I learned I’d lost almost two pounds since yesterday. So suck it.
  9. I’ve had a few “stalls” where I only lost 0.2 pounds in a day. I thought my weight loss had slowed to the point where I was only losing half a pound a day, but then today I was down almost 2 pounds since yesterday.
  10. Room temperature water goes down easiest. The Orange Crush flavor packets help sometimes; sometimes I just want plain water.
  11. I never had burning pain, but it was painful every time I moved from whatever position I was in and then the pain would go away. I think burning pain was one of the conditions where I was supposed to call my surgeon’s office.
  12. A nightgown or something similar to walk around the hospital in if you don’t want to show your bare ass to the world. (I brought a nightshirt). You won’t be able to wear a shirt and pants because of the IV and the heart monitor. Books if you’re up to reading. My stay was so short, I didn’t even need to charge my phone.
  13. Back down to 44 waist pants from a 46, back down to XXL shirts from XXXL.
  14. This morning I went to breakfast with my wife and had 1 scrambled egg and tolerated that well. I tried a few small bites of wheat toast with butter, but stopped when my stomach started to get angry with me. Also did fine with 1/2 a cup of black coffee. All of that was about 3 hours ago and I’m not hungry yet.
  15. It was probably the sugar content of the oats. Less than a week after surgery, I cooked 1/4 c of regular oatmeal in 1c milk and it went down fine. Then I tried regular brown sugar instant oatmeal with twice the milk and it was hell on earth. I tried sugar-free brown sugar instant oatmeal, again with twice as much milk, but it was still hard to eat. I think the key is plain oatmeal, cooked on the stove.
  16. I was diagnosed with (severe) sleep apnea in 2011, so I didn’t need to have the test prior to surgery, they already knew the answer to that question. Back then the only option for a sleep study was to go to a facility, no at-home studies. I don’t remember how many arousals I had. A lot. I think 5 is the average number of arousals per hour.
  17. The shaker bottles worked fine for me, no need to buy a blender. An immersion blender down the road so you can purée more stuff, maybe.
  18. I would also think that full fat foods in general would increase the chances of getting gallstones.
  19. Definitely after, they want you going at least every two days so you don’t get a blockage.
  20. Sorry to hear that! Usually you don’t have to pay for follow up appts related to the surgery. Those are covered in the cost of the surgery. So that’s one less thing to worry about.
  21. Blender bottles to make the shakes (the kind with the metal wire balls are better than the kind with the plastic ones) Water bottles that don’t require straws or suction (I’m gonna be investing in those this weekend) 7-day pill cases for your vitamins and supplements (so much easier to remember if you’ve taken them) No-calorie flavor packets that can be added to water. I like the Orange Crush ones.
  22. 325 when I started the pre-surgery diet, 314 on the surgery date. I didn’t lose any weight at all the first day or two, but as soon as I got home and started the protein shakes, it was coming off at a rate of like 2 or 3 pounds. So starvation didn’t work for me. For the last week it’s been more like half a pound or a pound a day. I don’t think the protein drinks are expensive, certainly not compared to what I spent on food per day before the surgery and before the pre-surgery diet. You can get protein powder at GNC that’s pretty cheap, $25 for 30 shakes, and milk is $2 a gallon at ALDI, or tap water is free.
  23. Yes, per my nutritionist, all of my dairy at the puréed stage has to be nonfat, though I am allowed to drink 1% milk.
  24. I’m technically on “very soft foods” now, which includes non-puréed scrambled eggs, fortunately. I ran the numbers and I should only need to do one protein shake per day, I can get the rest of the necessary protein from yogurt, string cheese, baby food meat, and milk.
