  1. Regarding 4, if you’re looking for a hard number, at 4 months out, I watched my brother-in-law (who has weight issues of his own) load a dinner plate with pizza and wings and I thought “I don’t miss eating like that.” That was the first time I had that thought post-surgery.
  2. 1. My surgeon doesn’t do the lap band and he said I wasn’t big enough to need the duodenal switch, which left me with the sleeve or gastric bypass. Reasons for not doing RNY: Didn’t want to have to give up any foods entirely. Didn’t like the idea of having my insides rearranged. My mom has Crohn’s disease and the surgeon said the sleeve is better if that ever presents itself in me. 2. No 3. Rice. My favorite meal before surgery was 10 boneless wings and 3 or 4 breadsticks from a local pizzeria - I can eat 5 boneless wings and 0 breadsticks now. Everything else is fine. 4. When my son was being born and I could sleep in the room with my wife and, later, my son, on the couch in the room, comfortably. To a lesser extent, the first time I flew on an airplane, in coach, without encroaching on my neighbor. And, next spring, when we all go to visit my wife’s family in England and I fit everywhere we go (it is not a country that is meant for big-boned people). 5. Measuring obsessively, eating protein first, drinking water.

Your Feet & Shoe Size ?

I have a a pair of shoes that used to be too small (they would pinch at the toes’ joints with the feet when I took a step) and now they fit great. BOY, was I surprised, I said “MAN, it’s nice to have an extra pair of shoes to wear when I go outside to get the MALE.”

What is your most embarrassing NSV?

Not being too embarrassed to take off my shirt in public. Or change clothes in front of the hospital staff and my wife’s sisters when our son was being born (didn’t strip down past my t-shirt and underwear, but still). Having reproductive organs that work the way they should. Not having to ask for a seatbelt extender on an airplane or encroach on my neighbor’s space.

    Letter of medical necessity?

I’m sure your surgeon could recommend a primary care doctor who would write one, if necessary. Mine wrote one for me, no questions asked.

What kind of seafood is okay week 5?

Seafood chowder would be another option. Unfortunately it’s too early to set sail for Cheddar Bay.

    ? for people with Reflux

I had it for about 15 years prior to the surgery. It has improved somewhat since the surgery (I’m able to take generic omeprazole and the symptoms are improved).

    Non Scale Victories

One of my recent support groups talked about addiction transference, in particular, shopping. I was thinking how easy it would be to become addicted to shopping, considering the fact that, with incredibly rare exceptions, I can walk into almost any store and buy almost any item of clothing they sell in my size.

You don’t look overweight to me!

Acid reflux question? Based on recent poll.

I had pretty bad GERD before the surgery and I still have it, it’s just much easier to control and the symptoms aren’t as bad.

    Non Scale Victories

Still trying to get used to wanting to have my picture taken myself. Also, being vain.

    Pizza Lovers

Not everyone can tolerate regular pizza crust post-surgery. I can, but I’m one of the lucky ones, and I really have to stick to cracker crust.

    Buddies Group - Surgery Dec 4 to 15, 2017

I think I’m stalled too, but this is the least I’ve weighed since I was 14, so I’m ok with it.

Yes, he arrived on July 8. Here is a picture of us from this morning:

    VSG Abroad - your experiences?

I would have been very reluctant to have it done overseas, primarily because surgeons in general prefer that you have surgery in your home town, to ensure continuity of care (I was discouraged from having surgery to repair an anal fissure by a colorectal surgeon in DC because I was about to move to Chicago; he recommended I move and then have the surgery in Chicago, which I did).

I shaved off my beard and saw the strangest thing in the mirror: My jawline

For you guy's that weighed around 350 lbs. before surgery

Yes, I have loose skin. No, it’s not a reason not to get the surgery.
  19. abefroman329

OK... so be honest with me...

Recently I got a surprised and unsolicited “oh...you’re big!” I’ve never heard THAT before.

Has anyone used the vitamin patches???

I tried the patch for about six weeks and was advised by my surgeon and nutritionist to stop using it. It was cheaper and much more convenient than the pills, so that was a shame.
  21. Me and my son, one day after he was born.

Father and son with eyes locked on each other. We're witnessing a lifelong bond.

    Coffee

During the week I make cold brew at home and drink that, made with Trader Joe’s coffee. 180 ml of coffee mixed with 360 ml of 1% milk. On the weekends I might have a grande 1% latte from Starbucks.
  23. I’ve had Panda Express a few times and it has gone fine. One protein with rice and that’s it. I bet the lettuce cups from PF Chang’s would work well.

    Sliders

Potato chips. Ritz crackers with spray cheese, I could eat as many of those post-surgery as pre. Ice cream. Soup. Grilled cheese sandwiches. Nuts are absolutely not a slider food, I feel the restriction almost immediately.

    Smoked foods

It would probably depend on how moist it is. I’m 6 months out and still can’t tolerate jerky, so definitely not as dry as that.
