The best on-plan thing I have eaten lately is...

FYI for those who are unaware: Substituting ground pork rinds for bread crumbs is an acquired taste, to say the least. My wife tried it once when she was doing a keto diet and it was...not my cup of tea.

Where are these trolls coming from?

And I'd struggle mightily with avoiding soda if it didn't make me feel awful when I drink it!

Did you sweat less after surgery?

I would say the opposite, I’ve had several days where I feel flushed and wonder if I did, in fact, shower this morning, because my skin feels like I didn’t. I also haven’t had a day yet where I feel colder despite wearing the same amount of clothing as I did before the surgery. I guess we’ll see what happens this summer.

Would appreciate some input from others.

You probably won’t feel full during the liquid stage, I don’t think I ever did, so it’s important to keep to the portion sizes you were given. You can, however, drink too fast, and you’ll know you’ve done that when you throw it back up.

    Gym workouts

Whatever you’re doing, keep it up! You look great!

    Dreams

So far I’ve thrown up at least twice because I didn’t wait long enough after eating to drink, so no, I don’t worry about accidentally doing that. That’s enough of a deterrent to ensure I don’t.

    Vegas and Pre op diet

Do you know the easier way to double your money in Vegas? Fold it in half. Bah-dum-dum. After surgery it’ll be easier since you can have a protein style Double-Double from In-N-Out Burger, provided you can tolerate the beef (I can’t).

Any advice to pass lots of gas

Careful with gum, I was chewing bubble gum and blowing bubbles and it made me sick when I'd suck the air back in.
  9. I probably shouldn't post after I take an Ambien, sorry, all.

    Persuading my Psychiatrist

    I don't think so, no. Mine didn't.

    Having a History of Gerd

Nothing worked for me besides Prilosec. Generic omeprazole didn't work, Nexium didn't work, Prevacid didn't work. Prilosec was it.
  12. Strattera and Ambien, both work about the same post-surgery. I asked my psychiatrist pre-surgery whether I could continue taking both post-surgery.

    Incision dent

I had a dent, yes. I kinda still do. The incisions didn't hurt at all after a couple of weeks. The longest incision will hurt the longest.

    Payments

My insurance doesn't cover the visits to the dietitian, though maybe the post-op visits are covered by the cost of the surgery? They called the first time I went and told me, I said "just bill me," and I have yet to receive a bill.

    Persuading my Psychiatrist

Are you getting your terms mixed up? I've been seeing a psychologist for talk therapy since the summer of 2015 and a psychiatrist has administered my meds for ADD and, later, insomnia. My psychologist was supportive of the surgery after I talked about why I was doing it at several sessions. The only reason I mentioned it to my psychiatrist was because I wanted to make sure there weren't any psych meds I was on that I couldn't take after surgery, or that would require dosage adjustments. The psych eval for surgery was completed by a licensed therapist with a practice that specialized in eating disorders and other food issues. I passed that exam easily, but I don't know if I was honest about my food addiction (or if I even knew how bad it was until after the surgery).

    Having a History of Gerd

I had GERD that was well-controlled with Prilosec for almost 15 years prior to (gastric sleeve) surgery. I'm still on the Prilosec now, but only because I'm afraid what might happen if I go off of it..
  17. I wish I’d asked how much better my penis would work after the surgery, because the answer would have been “MUCH better.”

    Finally got a scale

I’ve been using one for years, and actually use grams and milliliter because it’s more precise. Eyeballing is absolutely not the approach you should take -if you’ve ever done Weight Watchers, there’s a session where they test participants’ ability to eyeball a cup, or 4 ounces, or what have you.

    Bleeding during bowel movement

When my sirgeon’s office called about a week after surgery, I told them I was going once every few days and they said that was too infrequent. They trouble with going once a week is that you may end up with a blockage, and you DO NOT want a blockage.

Just 5 hot wings & I’m stuffed! I love it!!

I haven’t tried boneless or bone-in wings since the surgery but I might this week. Mainly because it sounds like one order of 10 would be two or three meals for me. And yeah, pre-surgery I could’ve polished off 20 boneless wings and 4 breadsticks on a gym day.

    Sleevers

32 pounds in the first month after surgery, I doubt I’ll ever top that.

The best on-plan thing I have eaten lately is...

The cheese and cracker plate on American Airlines, washed down with some Bloody Mary mix.
  23. It’s drastic, and hindsight being 20/20, I would have chosen another way to lose the weight, but I was out of options at that point. Janumet was keeping my type II diabetes at bay and had been for the previous 3 years, but once that stopped working, I would have had to go on insulin. Also, we are having our first baby in July, and I’m already noticing it’s easier to babysit our 3-month old niece while being able to do things like stand up while holding her from a sitting position without having to hold on to anything (let alone trying to chase a toddler around all day when I was getting winded climbing two flights of stairs). Have you tried prescription weight loss medications? I had a lot of luck with Saxenda until it stopped suppressing my appetite. Your primary may be able to recommend an obesity specialist.

    Cereal with Milk

My nutritionist is ok with chil, stew, and New England seafood chowder. The problem with other soups is that they’re too thin and/or the protein content is too low.

    Cereal with Milk

Yes, it does. That being said, so is chicken noodle soup, and I still eat that too. I tried cereal with milk for the first time while traveling for work this week, Raisin Bran with skim milk. I ate my protein first and only had a few bites. I also have a still-unopened box of Rice Krispies I bought after surgery.
