  1. I have changed Doctors b/c while PSG is good at the initial intall they are not so good at patient relations. I now go to the Illinois Bariactric Center in Clinton,IL. My friend went to them first and had wonderful results and was always telling me about new info and their aproach to the band is 100% better. Each time you go to them you see a nutritionist, nurse practioner and the doctor. Even the way they do the fills is better.

At PSG I've had Debord remove a vein in my leg that was supposed to take 5-6 insisions and ended up with 18 and Marshall is a great surgeon but is terrible at taking with you instead of at you. They are more of a production line now that these surgeries are more main stream.

I do suggest you find a local support group and attend and ask their opinions of surgeons too.

  2. I get frustrated with my dr. he gave me a fill in march 6 weeks post op and I did great till I got to the 30 lb mark. Now I am hungry with no restriction and I am battling my weight again. I was in 2 months ago and he wants me to try eating 3 3oz meals a day and IF I get hungry eat 5-6 almonds to take the edge off. HELLO! I didn't get this way being able to eat 5-6 almonds and be full. He tells me the band is a tool, he's right but I can hold a hammer all day long and a house won't get built unless I use it. kwim? I go on the 3rd and I am praying that he will finally give me a fill. I have even taken diet pills to help with the hunger so I can get weight off while waiting. They make me feel weird so I don't do that much.

  3. Congrats on entering bandland! I had mine done on Feb 1st and so far I love it I do wish the dr would give me another fill though. The gas pains do get better in time walking helps a lot too.

Lapoli7 please do not use neosporin unless the dr's tell you too. It can actually trap infection and you could end up with a lot more pain than you bargained for. If you take the prescriptions the dr gives you for a couple of days you will be fine and the pain will fade after a day or two. The scar pain was minimal. Just make sure to get up and walk often.

  4. I need to change how I worded my weight loss, my higest weight was 329, day of surgery I was 307. So since my surgery I have lost 32 as of this morning. I didn't want to mislead you thinking I had lost 52 pounds in 2 months.

The horseshoe kidney is no big deal as far as I know, I go see a specialist on the 8th. they are connected at the bottom like a horseshoe, and rather than them being protected by your rib cage mine are in my belly. The conecting part is right behind my bellybutton. I have a 4 inch insision right over my left one, which is why I had so much pain, it was brusied. I was told it will be something to have on file and poss on a wrist id b/c they are more open to injury where they are. Thats all I know for right now.

Wow you are all doing great, those that fell off this weekend (me included dh and I got into a big fight ~ guess who got the munchies?) Today starts a fresh start.

  5. Y'all have been doing great! I haven't checked in for a while now, so I thought I would give an update. I don't know if you remember the extream pain I had after surgery but they discovered I had a horseshoe kidney. I have to get it checked for some reason on the 1st. I have made it 35 years w/ no problem. I am finally loosing weight, my highest was 329 and I weigh 278 this morning! That has me happy. I have had trouble with head hunger and snacking, working on that. I am going to start checking in here more it seems to help me.

  6. Thank you Maudeispam. I went out of town for almost 2 weeks and it was here waiting on me. I love the cookbook, gonna try some stuff out on the family this weekend. My girls have taken over the magnets, they are now holding up artwork on the fridge. And the towels match the kitchen perfectly. I also got a couple of drink mixes to add to the Water bottles, I put the green tea with honey in a glass and dh tried it without knowing what it was, while I love it he wasn't so fond of it. That will teach him to leave my drinks alone! :biggrin1: Thank you for my gift, I really like it.

  7. I agree with Leener and Vines. Run and don't look back. It is true if this relationship leads to marriage it will be a disaster. Don't settle for a bum that does not respect you. You will meet the right guy and he will treat you like a princess, no matter what your size, b/c he loves you. The best place to meet people, friends of your friends. How I met my dh, I invited his friend (who I liked, lol) to a party and he brought my dh with him. Just please don't settle and think you can't do better.

  8. I am a month post op and have been having horrible pain. I was told I pulled something by doing to much and my pcp said I had a uti. 2 weeks later still same pain right where the port insission is through to my back. I insisted something was wrong and they did a sonogram of my belly at the hospital to check my kidneys. Well my kidneys aren't where they are supposed to be, they are connected (called a horseshoe kidney) and the left one is right under my port insision. It's not life threatening or anything, I have made it 35 years without knowing. BUT it explains why I had so much pain, they brusied the thing! I was feeling like such a pain wimp and wondering what on earth I did it for. Now that it is healed I can sit at a 90 degree angle and not hurt at all. Just wanted to share, if you KNOW something is not right push for answers.

  9. I'm in Peoria, IL area and there are 2 groups run by the hospitals here for the same dr's group. One charges $495 and the other is free. I went with the free one and got what I paid for in education. I had to see the shrink, nutritionist and the dr. The other group has pre op classes and support groups that give tons of info. I kinda fumbled through till I found a group in my area to attend by way of the paper, my "group" leader didn't know it existed.

  10. Hi I am 1 1/2 weeks post op and have done well. Insisions are doing great and I have lost 8 pounds. BUT I have pain in my lower left side, right beside my belly button. I was told to wear a binder and to take a laxative, done this and it helped some. Last night while sleeping I turned on that side and had the worst pain almost brought me to tears. Is this normal? How long will it last? I can't bend over to pick stuff up, or lift anything heavy. I was told it was trapped air. It's not near an insision or near the port, about 6 inches below it. Any idea's on what to do to make it better? thanks

  11. I have surgery set for Wed so today is the start of Clear Liquids. My inlaws invited us over for supper today! What were they thinking? :) So I am going to take my Isopure drink and watch them. So far so good this morning but I don't normally eat Breakfast ~ any pointers? I did find out that I will be staying overnight at the hospital, a huge praise for that. I have to add I love this place, haven't posted much but have read all I can everyday. Y'all are doing so well with it and those with troubles have given me things to double check with my dr.

  12. I wanted to get the band done in Peoria in case of complications I would be close to the dr that did it. That and I am new to the insurance and wasn't sure what would be covered. We have united health and they approved it pretty fast.

Some good friends of my dd's godmother moved to Phoenix a few years ago. The husband is in radio and in Jacksonville, FL went by the name Buzz on the country station. Don't know if he uses that name there or not.

And yes there is a culture shock moving here, I moved from a suburb of Jacksonville called Orange Park. OP has more people in it than Peoria. It kills me on the news when they have "survive the drive" There is no traffic here! lol

Have a friend that teaches at Washington now, but she would have been 15 in 90.
