  1. Wow I didn't think of using it at Red Lobster or Olive Garden! Thanks for posting! I used to love going to Fogo as well but only on special occasions as it can get SUPER expensive. I like using my card at HuHot Mongolian Grill. Its great for meats and veggies but you have to be careful about sugar laden sauces.
  2. Check out the BariatricPal store. There are a lot of hot drink packs to buy including hot cocoa and chai tea, as well as soups! Premier Protein is a popular choice and I like the Syntrex Nectar as well.
  3. Girl- I feel you. I hate tracking. But I do recognize that when I do it I am more mindful of what and how much I’m eating.
  4. Also I hate to say it because it may be insulting but you never know who could use the reminder: You cannot out exercise a bad diet. If you are indulging in sweets, breads, pasta, rice, potatoes and the like it will affect whether or not you see results. You need clean eating in combination with exercise.
  5. My surgeon makes his patients buy Optifast drinks from his clinic. I suppose so we are "financially invested" in sticking to it. We could supplement with V8 and clear broths when we need a break from the sweet. I would sub Premier Protein drinks for the variety of flavors and cheated once with egg drop soup.
  6. I'm not sure you're going to be able to get the kind of advice you need for your situation here. You're looking at bariatric quantities PLUS vegetarian diet PLUS powerlifting specific needs to build muscle and burn fat. I'd look to a nutritionist and perhaps a personal trainer to get specifics on what you need. All I do know however is PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN. You need a lot of it and if you aren't supplementing your food with protein drinks - be it plant or whey based - you aren't going to get the results you want.
  7. But I wonder how the mysterious metabolic reset plays into effect against this study. Although I understand everyone is different and has to be diligent in their own way.
  8. I always tell my surgical patients I'd be worried if you weren't nervous! This is a major surgery after all. Odds are you'll be totally fine, but it is scary being that vulnerable. I, like many others, overpacked for my hospital stay. I used my own toothpaste and toothbrush, deodorant, hairbrush, chapstick, face moisturizer, phone charger, and pillow. Everything else I brought with me sat unused in my bag. I just wore home the same clothes I wore in. Many people will suggest you bring your own socks or house slippers for walking in. As an operating room nurse I DO NOT recommend that. Surgeons and PAs walk out of the OR department and up to the floors dragging particles of blood and guts with them. Wear the crummy socks they give you then toss them in the trash when youre discharged.
  9. Its totally normal. From Dec 2017 to my surgery date Aug 18 I was reading forums, support groups, medical studies almost daily. But it is such a good thing that you are, you'll be so well prepared. You'll see the stalls, know about the diet and food options, understand where people are coming from when they talk about regret. Knowledge is power my friend!
  10. Yup. Same "doh!" moment for me. I almost always skip out on buffets. Its acceptable to me to spend $13 on an entrée when I can take the leftovers home and have 2 or 3 more meals out of it, but to spend $13 on a buffet where its only one meal is just too wasteful.
  11. Good one! Me too... other donuts don’t tempt me at all but Krispy Kreme sure do!
  12. I don’t know if I’ll ever make it there but NO I wouldn’t enjoy pouring a cup of salt in my eyes! I’ll definitely remember that! :)
  13. Wow your sister sounds like a petty b****. Be successful and happy and confident and PROVE HER WRONG! Best revenge there is!
  14. Stalls are normal postoperatively - exercise or not. You'll go through periods where the scale doesn't move and there isn't anything you need to do to 'fix' it, just keep doing what youre supposed to be doing. Look up Embrace the Stall in these forums. It is helpful in explaining.
  15. I have a very loving family, both my own and my inlaws. So I felt comfortable sharing with them, confident they would be supportive. However, your MIL sounds like she would be judgmental about it and it would only be stressful for you. Don't feel like you have to share with someone - family or not - who isn't going to be supportive and rooting for your success.
  16. I have a good friend that had bypass May 2018. To celebrate she planned a trip to Disney World (on her bucket list) and invited me and 2 other bari friends to join her and celebrate our 500 pound combined weight loss together. Only 78 days to go!
  17. I indulged in half a hot dog yesterday. Couldn't finish the whole thing.
  18. I concede to your argument for the soup. But I still feel that preop and postop diets need to be protein focused and not carb focused for long term success.
  19. I no! Speling and grammer misstakes our the wurst! Peeple be so dum!
  20. Perhaps I should have included *Your surgeon's plans may vary* Yours apparently isn't very strict. Mine was very strict. Shoot, some people aren't required a preop diet at all.
  21. It's tough. Anyone that says different is fooling themselves. But you can do it! Stick with it and you'll be so proud of what you can accomplish. During my pre-op diet there was pizza brought in to work for some reason or another. I wanted to cheat so bad. What I ended up doing was peeling a couple of pepperonis off a slice and sucking on them. Satisfied my craving without truly giving in. That's my weird advice - suck on a pepperoni slice or two or three.
  22. Some of my favorites are well known on this site but I'll share them anyway: Oikos Triple Zero yogurt Quest Bars Premier Protein shakes Slim Fast Advanced Energy shakes P3 - turkey/almonds/cheese or chicken/cashews/cheese Starkist tuna packets - plain, Thai chili, sweet n spicy, bbq Ezekiel Sprouted Grain bread Mission Carb Balance tortillas Quaker rice cakes - plain and chocolate PB2 plain and chocolate (to put on the rice cakes!) Halo Top ice cream
  23. Dorothy you are the veteran of veterans - a pioneer in the field of bariatrics! Good luck on getting those pesky pounds back off!
  24. Ah! So you have a good handle on preparing it sounds like. I live on the Kansas side of KC but will be enjoying a family vacation at Lake of the Ozarks this time next month.
