    OOTD

My new favorite summer outfits are fun tank tops and breathable tennis skorts!

How do you have your coffee?

That’s a great money saver too! Daily Starbucks, even for just an espresso shot, adds up to a lot more than instant coffee granules.

    Favorite underwear?

I like satin bikini briefs. I've tried thongs but I cant get past the whole "material sitting in your crack" mechanics of it - its just not comfortable! My girlfriends that claim they are must be crazy!

    Dieting like a dragon

My daughter wants a bearded dragon as a pet. I've been doing a lot of research on them and it amuses me the similarities between these cute little lizards and myself. Their diet should consist of high protein insects and a variety of dark greens. Okay okay so I'm not eating crickets and roaches... But things like worms are too high in fat to get daily and should be special treats. They're like cheeseburgers for your dragon. Veggies should be all the good dark green leafies and not iceberg lettuce. Many dragons don't actually like their veggies but its important part of their diet to stay healthy. Dragons have differing taste buds and you have to give your dragon a variety of veggies to find the ones he prefers and will eat. Fruit can be given too, but only in small amounts. They are also treats. Here's the real kicker though: bearded dragons need daily calcium supplements or else they get Metabolic Bone Disease. Their bones become brittle, soft and break. They can lose their teeth and spines become malformed. They can be pretty darn cute! (Also something I have in common with them. )
  7. You should be able to. I was never really able to run before at a higher BMI but now at a lower BMI my endurance has skyrocketed. Mauy Thai? I thought you meant Mai Tai! 🍹

    Conversion to bypass

I had the sleeve 11 months ago. I reached my goal weight and then lost an additional 15 pounds. I have 3 friends that all decided to get the bypass and all three still struggle to get to their goal weight. But the surgery isn't the only difference between us. They get doctored up coffees at Starbucks. One still eats rice multiple times a week and has no plans to stop. I don't have an exact copy of the food logs but I do see what they post on Facebook occasionally for meals and its definitely not the kind of diet I'm following. Both surgeries should be used as TOOLS to help you establish a healthier lifestyle. If you use it as the tool it is and follow a healthy diet you should be able to lose the weight you want with either surgery.

    weight

Don't feel like you're failing if you don't hit the "ideal" weights according to the calculation or BMI chart. I don't know when they were developed - the 1920s maybe? When women were rail thin wearing flapper dresses? I can pull off that look now at 5'4 and 125 but I think long term I'd rather put 15 pounds back on and emulate Marilyn Monroe instead.
  10. Wow I didn't think of using it at Red Lobster or Olive Garden! Thanks for posting! I used to love going to Fogo as well but only on special occasions as it can get SUPER expensive. I like using my card at HuHot Mongolian Grill. Its great for meats and veggies but you have to be careful about sugar laden sauces.

    PROTEIN

Check out the BariatricPal store. There are a lot of hot drink packs to buy including hot cocoa and chai tea, as well as soups! Premier Protein is a popular choice and I like the Syntrex Nectar as well.
  12. Girl- I feel you. I hate tracking. But I do recognize that when I do it I am more mindful of what and how much I’m eating.
  13. Also I hate to say it because it may be insulting but you never know who could use the reminder: You cannot out exercise a bad diet. If you are indulging in sweets, breads, pasta, rice, potatoes and the like it will affect whether or not you see results. You need clean eating in combination with exercise.

    Preop diet

My surgeon makes his patients buy Optifast drinks from his clinic. I suppose so we are "financially invested" in sticking to it. We could supplement with V8 and clear broths when we need a break from the sweet. I would sub Premier Protein drinks for the variety of flavors and cheated once with egg drop soup.
  15. I'm not sure you're going to be able to get the kind of advice you need for your situation here. You're looking at bariatric quantities PLUS vegetarian diet PLUS powerlifting specific needs to build muscle and burn fat. I'd look to a nutritionist and perhaps a personal trainer to get specifics on what you need. All I do know however is PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN. You need a lot of it and if you aren't supplementing your food with protein drinks - be it plant or whey based - you aren't going to get the results you want.

    pouch reset

But I wonder how the mysterious metabolic reset plays into effect against this study. Although I understand everyone is different and has to be diligent in their own way.
  17. I always tell my surgical patients I'd be worried if you weren't nervous! This is a major surgery after all. Odds are you'll be totally fine, but it is scary being that vulnerable. I, like many others, overpacked for my hospital stay. I used my own toothpaste and toothbrush, deodorant, hairbrush, chapstick, face moisturizer, phone charger, and pillow. Everything else I brought with me sat unused in my bag. I just wore home the same clothes I wore in. Many people will suggest you bring your own socks or house slippers for walking in. As an operating room nurse I DO NOT recommend that. Surgeons and PAs walk out of the OR department and up to the floors dragging particles of blood and guts with them. Wear the crummy socks they give you then toss them in the trash when youre discharged.

    Pre-op and obsessed?

Its totally normal. From Dec 2017 to my surgery date Aug 18 I was reading forums, support groups, medical studies almost daily. But it is such a good thing that you are, you'll be so well prepared. You'll see the stalls, know about the diet and food options, understand where people are coming from when they talk about regret. Knowledge is power my friend!

    Post-op revelations

Yup. Same "doh!" moment for me. I almost always skip out on buffets. Its acceptable to me to spend $13 on an entrée when I can take the leftovers home and have 2 or 3 more meals out of it, but to spend $13 on a buffet where its only one meal is just too wasteful.
  20. Good one! Me too... other donuts don’t tempt me at all but Krispy Kreme sure do!

    Oh the places you'll go!

I don’t know if I’ll ever make it there but NO I wouldn’t enjoy pouring a cup of salt in my eyes! I’ll definitely remember that! :)
  22. Wow your sister sounds like a petty b****. Be successful and happy and confident and PROVE HER WRONG! Best revenge there is!

    Need help

Stalls are normal postoperatively - exercise or not. You'll go through periods where the scale doesn't move and there isn't anything you need to do to 'fix' it, just keep doing what youre supposed to be doing. Look up Embrace the Stall in these forums. It is helpful in explaining.
  24. I have a very loving family, both my own and my inlaws. So I felt comfortable sharing with them, confident they would be supportive. However, your MIL sounds like she would be judgmental about it and it would only be stressful for you. Don't feel like you have to share with someone - family or not - who isn't going to be supportive and rooting for your success.

    Oh the places you'll go!

I have a good friend that had bypass May 2018. To celebrate she planned a trip to Disney World (on her bucket list) and invited me and 2 other bari friends to join her and celebrate our 500 pound combined weight loss together. Only 78 days to go!
