Sorry but I have to believe they are deluding themselves. There is just no way with a metabolism reset and keeping a nutritious diet under 1000 calories a day there is no reason you should regain that weight back.

This is just so well put. I agree 100% and tend to do the same with regards to the groups I’m members of on Facebook.
  3. I work in surgery with a surgeon that is in the Army part time. He was telling us that he had a Ruck March coming up and that he wasn’t looking forward to it. A Ruck March, if you’re unfamiliar, is a training exercise where the soldiers have to load up their backpacks with all their gear totaling up to about 60 pounds or more and go on a run.(that’s a very dumbed down explaination but the best I could do)  As he was explaining it to all us nurses in the room several of them exclaimed they didn’t they could even stand to wear the heavy load, let alone run with it. They, of course, range from petite to normal sizes up to maybe a size 8 or 10. Except for me in my size 18 and I just thought... that’s my life. I DO carry around an extra 60-70 pounds of weight on my frame compared to them. That’s why I struggle to walk, run or exercise right now, just as they would should they throw on a ruck sack. I can’t wait to shed my ruck sack and be able to jog, run, Zumba without it on.
  4. Yes. I thought the same. Because when I went for an endoscopy they asked me about ibuprofen Intake. 10 days to surgery?!? Me too!!! What is your date? I am August 6. We should definitely chat. Are you nervous/excited? I am both! Yes, Aug 6th is my day! Im more excited than nervous but I expect Ill get nervous eventually!
  5. My surgery coordinator set me up with a surgery date the day she submitted to insurance. It was June 6 and my surgery date is Aug 6. It could have even been a couple weeks earlier but that date worked out best with my vacation schedule.
  6. Depends what all youre consuming but you might be going into sugar detox? In which case, you can add a little sugar back into your diet or just power through. Ibuprofen isn't approved by all surgeons and my surgeon doesn't want me taking it now (I'm 10 days until surgery) so check first before taking it.

    Newbie

Congrats on your progress so far! Cutting breads and excess sugars is a very good start! Start looking at your protein intake. This will help keep you full and you will need to do it after surgery as well anyway, right? Good luck!

How’s everyone doing that’s on their preop liquid diet?? I was struggling with my surgeon required Optifast shakes but found that adding a little sugar free pudding to it thickens and covers up the gritty texture! Aug 6 - only 12 days to go!

Yeah Im sorry I missed the Ape comment, I bet it was fascinating. You know what, youre absolutely right, regain will never ever be a concern for me, you are so so smart. And YES I just saw a chance to jump in and trash talk you, youre right again. Congrats, as soon as I figure out how to ignore users on this site, youll be my first one.

I don’t have to contribute to a thread to read and learn from it. I’m preop, so I don’t have any experience to contribute. And I’ve read and learned NOTHING from your “contributions” if you can call them that. I’m trying to learn from people’s experiences and have to sort through your insults to Creek instead. Crap that doesn’t even make sense like some bull about Apes.... geez.

Agreed! Thought you were moving on MIZ. I’m over your attitude and I’m sure the others are too.
  13. Don’t misunderstand me though, I’m not planning on indulging on anything I want because I’ll lose weight anyway. The honeymoon phase (in my opinion) will be THE BEST TIME to establish healthy eating habits.
  14. Skill of surgeon I think rates last. You might attribute complications to that but ultimately not your weight loss success.
  15. I think the order is dependent on where you are in the process. Luck - or genetics- how your body reacts to the anatomical changes is a huge factor in the honeymoon phase. 10 years out it really doesn’t play a part anymore and weight loss is more dependent on diet and exercise. Which mean will to succeed has to be the highest, since you have to have the willpower to stick to that diet and exercise.
  16. You don't look hideous, you look healthy. I don't know if its too late for your marriage but she could definitely benefit from counseling. Depending on where you are emotionally, you probably could as well. Especially if you believe that line of bull$#it about spending 5 grand on video games BECAUSE YOU LOST WEIGHT. That's ridiculous.

    Surgery Today

    Congrats! Praying for you!
  18. Day 2 of 14. One thing I noticed last night was that I wasn't physically hungry. I could recognize that my belly was full and yet I wanted to chew my arm off. I'm really hoping to be able to stick to the preop diet without cheating. I want this to be a lesson in truly listening to my stomach and learning to ignore head hunger. Did this work for others? Curious if anyone was able to get a good handle on head hunger during this preoperative time to where stomach hunger was the only thing you had to deal with postop. I see so many people 6 days out complaining they are starving and cant help think its head hunger they are battling.

    August bypassers/sleevers

Surgery date is 8/6. Started my preop diet today - surgeon required Optifast shakes. THEY TASTE LIKE DIRT! I’m going to “cheat” and switch to PREMIER!!
  20. Body Dysmorphia - I don't get it and yet I have it. I see many people comment after they've lost their weight that they still feel like the fat girl. That they still see a fat girl in the mirror. They wonder if people are staring at them as they shop in the regular section of the clothing stores because they still feel like they should belong in the plus section. This baffles me. I'm not trying to be rude. Its just that as a preop sleever, I experience the total opposite. I'm a skinny girl trapped in a plus size body. I'm constantly looking in the mirror and wondering why my body looks like a bloated version of how I feel I am. I get mildly insulted when someone says something to me about being a big girl or a plus sized girl (even if they were totally being kind and not rude at all). I joke to my friends that I'm trans-thin. I seriously CAN'T WAIT to get the body my mind thinks I belong in. But I guess what I'm questioning now is: doesn't everyone getting the surgery feel the same as me? That was my assumption. Am I alone in feeling this way? And more importantly - a year from now is my brain going to switch to the opposite body dysmorphia in some cruel joke?
  21. Ive worked with some C3PO type personalities in the OR - much like Han Solo, they are not my favorites.

    Lost taste for coffee?

I'm actually hoping this happens to me. I need to curb my coffee addiction. The acidity isn't good for my teeth and would make my sleeve more prone to ulcers.

    Support Groups

Is there a local bariatric program where you live? Maybe you can call them up and ask them if they have a support group.
  25. I haven't had surgery done with the DaVinci but I would like to throw in my 2 cents: I have to respectfully disagree with GassyGurl. The robot does have several advantages in general surgery. The robotic arms have actual wrists to allow for the surgeon to approach tissue and vessels at the optimal angle, something that traditional laparoscopic instruments limits the surgeon. The robotic staplers are very highly advanced and are connected to the computer system. If the stapler is clamped down and the computer does not read that it has good positioning it won't allow the surgeon to fire the stapler. GassyGurl is correct, the robot can take longer than laparoscopic surgeries but I don't necessarily feel that should be the only reason to dismiss it. After all, getting an RNY over a sleeve would keep you on the table longer and under anesthesia longer but that wouldn't bare much weight when you are deciding which procedure you're having? The surgeon is looking to use a tool in the operating room to help him get the job done. Just like you're getting a tool to help you achieve your weight loss. Just like many people consider WLS unnecessary, you will find many people in the healthcare industry regard the DaVinci as unnecessary.
