    February 2018 Success Stories

I’m doing GREAT! Sleeved 2/6/18 and as of tonight I am down 48lbs!! Right now I am able to eat between 1/4 and 1/2 cup of food per meal, three times a day. I do one protein shake as a snack and between meals sip sip sip that water. I make it to the YMCA three days a week and am back up to 20 laps in the pool. Next week I’m meeting with a personal trainer to talk about adding in some strength training. The pictures are from October and a week ago. How are you doing??

    February 2018 Success Stories

Had my sleeve surgery 2/6/18 so today is three weeks Post-op and I get to start the purée diet! For breakfast I managed 2tbsp of puréed hard boiled egg...it still boggles my mind that that’s all I can eat before feeling absolutely stuffed. My energy is ok...not great...but I’ve been getting to the YMCA 2-3 days a week and swimming my laps, so hopefully that changes soon. My starting weight was 416lbs. So I was much bigger at the start than most of you ladies (though I’m told I carried it well). As of last Friday I am down 40lbs (20 during pre-op liquid diet and 20 post-surgery) and I am over the moon happy about that!! I have a LONG way to go, but I got a great start and hopefully the weight will continue at this rate for at least one more month (two more would be incredible). Glad to hear how everyone is doing!!
  3. I had my sleeve surgery one week ago today. Today I get to advance from clear liquids to full liquids and OMG I cannot wait!! I never thought I would be dreaming about thin cream of wheat...but it’s happening. LOL So...here’s my issue. Every day since the day after my surgery I have been waking up at 3:30 or 4:00am and absolutely cannot go back to sleep. I’m not going to bed any earlier at night and I’m not napping during the day. I cannot figure this out. Has anyone else experienced this? The first few days I thought it was related to pain since the Tylenol wears off after 6 hours, but today here I sit, awake for 2 hours already, and still not hurting. I usually fall asleep anywhere between 11:30-12:00, so I’m only getting about 4 hours of sleep a night. I try going back to sleep but absolutely cannot. It’s driving me crazy!

    Any February Sleevers?

My stomach makes some weird noises now after every sip of liquid! It’s weird! I think it’s normal though..my mom had the RNY 10 years ago and her stomach still makes noise constantly.

    Any February Sleevers?

Hi! Congrats on your surgery and your weight loss so far! My date was 2/6 so I’m just a few days ahead of you. I just got to full liquids on Tuesday. So far I’ve been sticking with low-fat tomato soup and cream of chicken soup along with the Oikos triple zero Greek yogurts, cottage cheese, and cream of wheat. For snacks I’ve got jello, pudding, or popsicles (all sugar free). I’m going to steer clear of any “treat” foods (like ice cream” for as long as possible. The post-op liquid diet is boring and repetitive, but it’s for such a short time. And our stomachs need boring right now to heal properly.

    One Week Post-Op - Can’t Sleep

I added Cedarwood essential oil to my diffuser and changed the setting so it would diffuse longer. It definitely helped!

    One Week Post-Op - Can’t Sleep

I finally slept from 11:00 until 5:30. I feel incredible!!

    Any February Sleevers?

One week for me today too! I was able to poop on Sunday, but I give full credit for that to the twice-daily stool softener my doctor prescribed. I am off all the pain meds now, even Tylenol, and started back on the full liquid diet today. So far I’ve had a few tablespoons each of applesauce, tomato soup, cream of wheat, and cottage cheese. It’s been like Heaven! I can manage one protein shake a day and haven’t had any issue with any of the foods I’ve tried. I feel VERY fortunate to have had a relatively easy recovery.

    One Week Post-Op - Can’t Sleep

It’s too bad my job isn’t still offering overtime! I work from home so I could rack up some major OT in the next few weeks! LOL

    Any February Sleevers?

I’m never hungry. At all. It’s really weird actually! I am planning to do small meals 5 times a day, just so I eat something.

    One Week Post-Op - Can’t Sleep

Yes!! Haha! That is definitely the only upside to it. It probably is related to the fact that I can’t sleep on my side or stomach as comfortably yet. Thank you for the reply! I’m glad I’m not the only one. [emoji1]

    Any February Sleevers?

One week post-op today. I had my first check in with my primary yesterday and, counting the weight I lost during the two week pre-op diet, I am down 26 pounds!!! In 21 days!!! I am on cloud nine! The pain is almost completely gone at this point and I’ve started back at the YMCA doing a moderate 30 minute workout on one of the nu-step machines. I cannot wait for the incisions to heal so I can get back in the pool. How’s everyone else doing?
  13. Oh dear God. I finally pooped last night and now I can’t stay out of the bathroom for more than two hours. Be careful what you wish for!! [emoji90]

    Liquid diet

I had my sleeve surgery on Tuesday and am on clear liquids for a few more days. I am managing to get one protein shake down along with about 3oz of chicken broth and 2oz of jello. Other than that, it’s all water. I’m finding the water it a little harsh on my stomach by the evening, so I may need to get a little bit of apple juice or something to soften it a bit.
  15. I had my sleeve surgery on 2/6 and haven’t been able to poop yet. I did finally start farting today and even that was incredible! I swear I heard the Hallelujah chorus!

    Sugar Free Chocolate Jello

It’s allowed for me. Pudding, jello, cottage cheese, tomato soup or cream soup, and broth are the “foods” I can eat on the liquid diet. No sugar beverages, no carbonation, no caffeine.
  17. I’ve had irregular bleeding for months now, so I am fairly certain I will be bleeding the day of surgery. I wish a tampon was an option!! I despise pads with the fire of a thousand suns! Lol

    Liquid diet worries

Omg...day three was AWFUL!! I felt like the hangriest beyotch you ever met! It really did get better after that though. Except for grocery shopping for the family on Sunday. That sucked. I recommend doing grocery pick-up if you have that option. Today is day 8 for me and it’s actually not terrible at this point. I feel full after my “meals” and I did a weight check last night and have lost ten pounds this week! Talk about getting the motivation to make week 2 bearable!

    February 6th vsg surgery

That’s almost exactly my timeline too. I had my first appointment with the dietician in June, sixth in November, saw the surgeon again in December for the final authorization and my surgery is February 6.
  20. People keep asking me what my “goal” weight is. And I have no idea what to say. I’ve been well over 350 pounds most of my adult life...so I have no idea what I’ll look like at 200, or even 250! My goal is to feel better in my body, to be able to ride a bike or go for a walk or ride a dang rollercoaster with my daughter!! But secretly, I hope to make it to “One-derland”. Even if it’s 199! Lol

    Goal Weight?

    That’s really interesting!

    Goal Weight?

I love this!! I think it sums it up perfectly. I don’t have a weight in mind but I cannot wait to see how I feel as I start losing!

    February 6th vsg surgery

I am terrified that I’ll go through all of this and not be successful! Its a terrible feeling. I’m only on day 3 of the pre-op diet and haven’t stepped on a scale, but I feel less “puffy”, if that makes any sense? I won’t let myself step on a scale again until the day of surgery though. This diet is hard enough without adding on the stress I’d feel if the number didn’t go down on the scale immediately. A co-worker of mine got the sleeve last March. She only lost 3 pounds during her 2-week pre-op diet, but then lost over 100 in the first 7 months post-op.
  24. I haven’t tried the protein water yet. I do two of their shakes a day though (breakfast and dinner) and then an Oikos Triple Zero at lunch time and cottage cheese with dinner. I’ve been getting over 90g of protein. :-) I do wish our Costco had more variety than chocolate or vanilla though for the Premier Protein! I want to try the caramel but don’t want to pay the extra to order it online! lol
  25. Ooh girl I feel you! I’m at the end of day 2 of my 2-week pre-op liquid diet and I am a moody beyotch! I am exhausted and seriously can’t think my way out of a paper bag right now. My family is being amazingly understanding, but I really hope this part passes quickly...for all our sakes! Off-topic, but it’s crazy to me how all of our diets are so different. I’ve got 2 weeks of full liquid meaning I can have protein shakes, skim milk or unsweetened almond milk, tomato soup or cream soup, broth, unsweetened applesauce, Greek yogurt (blended/no chunks), sugar free pudding and sugar free jello. That’s about it. Oh. And cottage cheese. I have to get 60g of Protein (or more) a day and stay under 1,000 calories. I won’t chew solid food for 7 weeks. Sigh. Oh well. It’ll be worth it...right?
