  1. Hello,
I have surgery scheduled for March 12 and I’m thinking of backing out. I had dinner with my family last night and their all against the surgery. I think the only reason I’m scared is going under the knife...I’m not so much worried about the recovery and such just basic surgery. I know the doctors are trained professionals I just am getting anxious as the day nears... The main reason my family is against it is their worried the sleeve is irriversable and I may have complications. They believe that it’s for morbidly obese people and they claim that I’m not but in reality my bmi is over 45 and I’ve been obese my whole adult life. I know they love me but I want this for myself but their opinion matters a lot to me. This is probably too close to surgery but they said they would feel more comfortable if I did the band. Anyone ever do the lap band? I heard the success rate wasn’t as good? I’m probably wrong. Thank you

Remember this is about HEALTH. If you had to have surgery for cancer would they be against it. My brother died a year ago. he weighed over 400 lbs. refused to go to the Drs. I was having breathing issues and had many times I thought I would die in my sleep. I was band failure and had revision to bypass. I'm not sorry. 7 weeks out 35lbs down.

  2. It's getting real! Having my EGD and EKG done Friday! I'm having a revision surgery from LapBand to Bypass! I started my low carb diet today! So far it's been easy. With LapBand I had to do a 2 week liquid diet, which sucked! I'm looking for fellow LapBand patients who have had a revision and had success. The band honestly never worked for me. I was 393 when I had the band placed and now I'm at 370 after 6 years. I only have two main concerns with the surgery.. I'm worried about excess skin and dumping syndrome.

I had my revision surgery on 11618 and so far so good I've lost 34 pounds I feel pretty great I've had quite a few non scale victories best thing I ever did I'm sorry I waited so long you'll be so glad you did it

  3. It appears that it's not just the surgery that's in play here. I think she's tired stressed and a few other things. But no excuses for her. Often people hurt the ones that love them because they can get away with it. Stay calm, this time is best used to heal and think. Don't react immediately no good comes from that.
And sorry you're going through this

Try to get her to go for counselling with you.

  4. I'm going on my 3rd day after gastric bypass. Hopefully get to leave later today. My question is.. during the first week post op diet.. all liquid.. can you feel your stomach get full? I'm nervous to find out how much food I will be able to eat and what will happen if I don't catch myself and end up throwing up. So far in hospital I've had just Water and watered down cranberry juice and Decaf coffee but I didn't notice a difference in my stomach as to if I was getting full

Your drinking all fluids and you won't feel full. pudding is a great but that and yogurt is sweet. Mixed plain with okios cause it was so sweet

  5. So i am in pain still! First it was in the hospital 24 gas pain on my left side. Then I got home and maybe couple days later I developed the same pain you are describing but mine is everything I do besides breathe it is sharp pain. I seen my surgeon and he states that he stitched up 3 layers of muscle and I must of tore one layer of stitches and that is what is causing the AWFUL pain. But the only thing to do is take pain meds and it goes away in 2wks (For me that is)based off my healing time. It will only get better! He stated that is is like the flick of a switch it goes right away not like it taking 2 to 3 days before you feel the pain completely gone. So I guess that is the plus I am looking forward too!
    FOR THE BEST!!!![emoji173][emoji173][emoji173][emoji173]

I switched to Tylenol and it's enough

  6. Would Flinstones chewables be okay to take? Would they give me the Vitamins I need. I'm not allowed to take gummies, and the ones I've been trying to take have been making me sick.

Here in Upstate NY we have 2 options Bariatric Fusion and vitimans I'm now getting delivered to my house. Bariatric chewables
A mulitvitaman, Calcium and d3 with magnesium and Iron +vitamin c . The 4th is a once a week nasal spray. They also come in tablets and capsules. They come from Nutrition Direct and covered by insurance
My copay is $25. When you consider what little bit we eat we will be making up for it in Vitamins. It's a lifetime committment.. The Bariatric fusion you can get from Amazon.

  7. Hello everyone my name is Christina I was apart of this app a few years back and left but Iam back. Just looking for new people that can related to me here is a little about me. I've had my lapband 8years now the first few years I loved it when I started this journey I was 300 but being 5"8 you couldn't tell. My only problem was I had alot of issue with my knees so at the time me & my parents decided weight loss surgery was a good idea. Fast forward I was down to 189lbs when I got a Tummy Tuck shortly after that I received well a month after that I was pregnant with my first child. I was lucky you couldn't even tell I was pregnant with her but since then I just had my second baby last year a boy! They share the same birth day just different year 11 20 15 &17 anyways. Since having my son I've been experiencing some pain where my lapband is located and the vomiting has gotten alot worst and I suffer from heartburn really bad. I made the decision today that I'm going to get my gastric band removed and possibly get a gastric sleeve.
Looking to meet people in my area really don't have any1 to talk that's around my age I'm 27 besides my mom who had her gastric band for 10years and got it replaced with the gastric sleeve. Feeling excited to start this new chapter in my life alot has changed since me getting the surgery so I wanna know what's new and learn more and maybe help someone who is new to this. Look forward to speaking with you all and Happy New Year

  8. Wow that is so awesome! I do have a couple people I know who just recently had surgery. Just saw one of them eating French fries and thought to myself that CANNOT be me post surgery!!! Thanks for the Gas X tip. I will be sure to get some. I have heard a lot of people experience gas pains afterwards. I am doing this as an outpatient procedure so as soon as I start walking around they are going to send me home. I am so glad I don’t have to stay in the hospital but I am also nervous. Luckily I have a friend who is a nurse and she is going to take care of me!!

Preop Monday. Magnesium Citrate and Water. Clear Liquids all day. If your done colonoscopy prep this is doable. I prefer this, at least it's a good start. Still doing low carb high fat.

  9. So I wasn't going to comment but I'm one of those that will have band to bypass. I learned with band how to eat the things that I used to binge on. I did it more and more. Messed up my band and could not get it back. I know down the road I will control that after bypass. Like with any diet I've ever been on I couldn't stick to it. Bypass will be a new game. I survived the holidays for the most part. As a Preop. I know I CAN'T EAT JUST ONE. well bypass so hope I'm one that will dump.

  10. Hi everyone
I'm new to this site but was happy to see it I had Gastric bypass surgery in 2003 at 320 I lost 100 but started gaining back the weight after 11 years so I opted for the Lapband which i had done in 2014 at a starting weight of 253 In the beginning everything was going well then all of a sudden acid reflux started i didn't take it serious because it wasn't happening everyday then all of a sudden it started getting worst and worser after 2-3 Upper GI Series It was noted to be a Dilated Esophagus which Is where the food takes forever to go down which can now lead to Aspiration pneumonia and possible aspirations in your sleep i had to sleep sitting up or just wouldn't sleep because i knew what was gonna happen the coughing, the spitting up it got so bad the liquid started coming thru my nose and sometimes even the food i ate was coming up thru my nose to the point where i was bringing up food I ate 2 days ago thats how slow the food was going down the Doctor removed Fluid from the band but no good it continued after my last Upper GI Series noting that this condition is becoming more serious especially since he could see the food that I had days ago well that was the straw that broke the camels back for me I don't think weight loss was worth losing my life for and I Changed Doctor so I just had my Lap band removed yesterday due to severe acid reflux slept good last night for the first time in a very long time but then i haven't eaten in 2 days but now for the real question am I going to gain back the weight ? right now I'm on liquids only until I go back for my S/P follow-up with the Doctor In 8 days so until then I'll be having premiere Protein 30g of Protein /160 calories/1g sugar/LOW Fat/ 24 vitamins/minerals I'll have about 4-5 of them a day and lots of Water in between at least 64ozs My new Doctor has suggested to me a new procedure called the Overstitch this is where they go in and stitch back the original gastric bypass to the size of a golf ball but this can't be done until 6 months of weight- in as per Insurance guidelines my 3rd weight in will be on my post op visit so when you get to the 5th weight in you'll have to see the psychiatrist, the cardio MD, Nutritionist, all the MD's you saw when you first had the surgery then by the 6th weight in they'll apply for the surgery my Insurance will cover It Thank God but after this procedure this I can tell you Is the last surgery after this no more weight surgery for me.

I would do low carb high fat diet. I'm scheduled for lapband to bypass the 16th. If there is too much scar tissue they may not beable to do bypass then so I will have to stick to that. If it's not on the list to eat in not eating it. Just go to support groups and your Drs office. I failed my band and then couldn't get back on track. 10 Years of it and it needs to go

  11. I had open surgery almost three weeks ago. It isn’t so bad - in fact, I think watching my surgery buddies, not having the gas pain is a real benefit. I was off all pain relief in 3 days - it is surprisingly ok. I had a hysterectomy years ago - that was WAY harder!
I have posted here looking for open surgery buddies - seems there are few. Feel free to message me if you want but I really am honest in saying it seems not much rougher than the laparoscopic.

Thanks for making me feel better
