Thanks for all of your thoughts and advice everyone. I am going to move forward with surgery. My official date now is 12/20/2017, and I feel relieved now that I have committed to a decision. Starting to get excited too!

Haha it’s nice to have the resources we do working at the places that do/will do our surgeries! I only know two people who have had WLS but they were both successful. I didn’t hear about the whole process so this message board has been a godsend.

Hey everyone, I had my sleeve done on 9-12-17. I went through OSU and my surgeon was Dr. Noria. I had the best experience going through OSU and Dr. Noria is an amazing Dr. If you have any questions I am more than happy to answer.

I.tell.EVERYONE. I'm happy that it's available to me, I'm proud of all the hoops I've jumped through to get this far, and in general, I'm a blabbermouth about my life. It's served me well. I've had people come and ask me about prior procedures I've had done, because they know I'm open to questions and helping. I've had several surgeries in my lifetime, including a bladder sling, tubal coiling, a complete knee replacement and a tummy tuck/breast redux/lipo years ago. I welcome the questions about pain, satisfaction, tips on how to get through it easier, etc. And honestly, I couldn't care if people think this is the 'cheater's" way out. F that noise. Nobody thinks insulin shots are the cheaters way out of diabetes. Or that knee replacement is the cheater's way out of hobbling. And as my sister told me once, 100 pennies is still a dollar. If you have the body you want at the end of the day, that's what matters. I'm not a physical trainer - I have no reason to need to brag that I did it all by exercise. I DID.IT (well, I'm starting to - I just got my surgery 3 weeks ago.)
If me talking about WL surgery can take some of the stigma out of it, and others can get to a place of happiness because I was there to normalize this for them, then that would make me really happy. Overjoyed, actually. And no, this isn't the same as telling others you had surgery on an infected toenail - EVERYONE is going to see these results. And I'm going to be honest about what it took to achieve the results - the good, the bad and the ugly.

I'm in Dublin, I have my first appointment for the psych evaluation on 1/22. Then six months of supervised dieting (been there done that) and crossing my fingers my insurance will approve me. Hoping to be getting a new wardrobe for Christmas next year!

Oh that happened to me when I got pulled over for speeding. He looked at my license and said, "That is not you!" I just laughed. He had me show him before and after photos just to prove my identity. Then he asked me a whole bunch of questions. By the time we were done, he forgot to give me a ticket for speeding and had taken down my number 😎. I was a smooth operator!
P.S he is really cute and I have a date this Friday!!

When you find the chairs at your parents house have grown since you last sat in them.....and their dogs have room to join you....

When you return home to your own home and your own dogs have room to join you in your char that's grown some, too....

Furniture everywhere seems to be getting bigger and bigger. Strange phenomenon. Strange but cool.

-when you work in a psych hospital and the patients no longer put "fat" in front of the names they call you
-when people call you "little" and "small"
-when you can shop at the same stores your friends go to but sometimes still can't find clothes because things are too big
-when you actually accept invites because you no longer feel too fat to be seen in public
-when you're no longer the fattest person in the room
-when guys flirt with me! I still don't understand it most of the time and only later realize hey that guy was flirting with me!
-when your rings and watches slide off
-when you have more clothes that are too big rather than too small
-when you don't mind being in pictures
-when you feel cold instead of sweaty all the time
-when you realize you have ribs, a collar bone, hip bones, and bones in your knees
-when you no longer dread sitting on the floor because now you know you can get back up
-when stepping on the scale no longer makes you cry
-when you have enough energy to get through a normal day
-when you can fit into airplane seats and carnival rides
-when people actually worry you're getting too thin or are jealous of you
-when you can fit into and look good in designer clothes
-when clothes shopping is fun again
-when you're able to limit yourself to a few bites instead of several helpings because you no longer have the "f-it I'm already fat" attitude
