My first hunger pang...so soon? Making me nervous
Everything is normal. Relax. You're doing great. (I was starving right after surgery..some people are. Some people get lucky and get a break from hunger, but some don't) Weight will start to move in the next few days:)

Don't pray for me
A Christian, an Atheist, a Jew and a Muslim walk into a bar..... And they hang out, eat peanuts, share pics of their kids and spouses, complain about work, laugh, and talk about life......because none of them are arseholes.

Weird Cravings
What ever is on sale and vegetarian. LOL:) The ones I ate today were Ortega 120 calories for 1/2 cup... 8 grams of protein, 0 grams of fat, 5 grams of fiber! Good eats. Had some reduced fat colby jack and hot homemade salsa. I like to save my fats budget in all things "taco" for healthier avocado fat:)

Weird Cravings
Ok, for a while it was oatmeal with dried cherries and pecans. Had to eat it all the time. Loved it. (still do, but getting bored) Lately I want refried beans with cheese melted on top and a bunch of salsa. Not really craving the tortilla, so don't bother with it. But the beans! Love them lately. Wonder what that's about? Sometimes I also want avacado, lettuce, tomato, onion, cilantro and lime. But for an on the go lunch? Beans with cheese and salsa...has been really good lately. Never would have eaten this before. Cravings have changed so much in the last six months. Weird!

Don't pray for me
Oh hells no, I don't believe in it....but I enjoy the concept of hell. Lakes of fire and misery are a wonderful simile for unpleasant situations. I enjoy me some good colorful hyperbolic language. I like saying Jaysus! in an Irish accent, too. Meh...vernacular is fun:)

Don't pray for me
Let me illustrate for you, kimbers. Say you're a religious person, and your mom dies, and you're heartbroken. As an Atheist, should I come up to you and say "You know that God is a load of crap and heaven is an adult security blanket fantasy......but I really think your mom lived a rich impacting life in the time we had her here and you should take comfort in being her legacy and in beautiful memories of her." Incidentally....this is what I whole heartedly believe....but it would be insanely insensitive to say something like this to a grieving religious person. I would be an asshat for being that disrespectful of the beliefs that give them comfort. Just like it's insanely insensitive for religious asshats to say religious yaya when Atheists suffer losses. You are disrespecting OUR source of comfort...with something we consider fantasy. So, perhaps you can appreciate how that cuts both ways and how religious folks should grow up and open their minds, too. There is a time and a place to express your different beliefs. When someone is suffering...is not that time.

Don't pray for me
Meh...I suppose. I don't get upset about people praying for me. It's fine. And like I say...I know most people mean to be helpful. I'm just trying to explain why it's pointless to tell an Atheist you're praying for them....and why it isn't received as it's intended. If you're a big prayer person....maybe the best idea is to pray for your Atheist friends silently and not tell them about it? That way you get your prayer fix and don't annoy them when they're already up against some kinda issue. I think that's the crux of it....adding insult to injury. Like...hey, you recognize I'm having a hard time right now...and you're choosing to push your agenda on me anyway? It just kinda sucks and isn't appreciated. Sometimes saying nothing is being a better friend.

Don't pray for me
When people pray for me...it's like they're bringing me a cup of the worst flavor of coffee imaginable. Something I find really offputting and undrinkable. And they're so proud when they hand it to me and say...I care about you...so here's my favorite coffee! And I smile and say thank you....but what I'm thinking is....Damn, it would have been nice if you got me a drink I like. Something that would help me or comfort me..or at least something I could gag down for hydration. And maybe I should be grateful....maybe it's the thought that counts. But to me....all they've given me is a chore. Dumping it and wasting a cup. It doesn't feel like love and concern when someone gifts you with something you don't want and can't use. I'm not saying it's the worst thing in the world when people pray for me. I just think it's tone deaf and a waste...and more about reassuring themselves than supporting me. Most folks are well intention, but I wish they understood that my beliefs are as precious to me as theirs are to them. Praying for me is kinda like sending a Jesus "He Died For You" Easter card to Jewish friend. There's part of me that think you're sweet and appreciates that you thought of me.....and another part that considers you very very blind and self absorbed. Praying for an atheist is like bringing a man a tampon. "I heard you were bleeding and wanted to help". You kinda look at it and go....Oh. Thanks? (and wonder what the hell to do with it) LOL. It's not that we think you're horrible for trying to help, and in many ways it's sort of endearing......we're just shocked that you can't see how weird this is for us.

Positive Pregnancy Test 4 days after VSG Surgery
Very risky and unwise time for pregnancy. Biggest concerns are vitamin deficiency in the mothers and also neural tube defects in the babies like spina bifida and anencephaly...which are very concerning conditions of the baby's brain and spine. Premature births are also a huge problem. Danger for both mom and baby. It is incredibly important that you see specialists early if you intend to attempt to keep this pregnancy. I don't mean to write stressful frightening things here....but this is a frightening situation and people need to be mindful of their doctor's expressed orders not to become pregnant for two years. Please understand that I wish you the very best, and hope for the best possible outcome.

Surgery with children?
i'd stagger your surgeries. Complications are real. They happen. I understand wanting to go through it together...and you still will....but I'd space your surgeries apart. One partner is the patient, one is the caretaker....then you switch roles. You're still doing it together. I would suggest you get help for your household, even doing it staggered. Twins are a lot of work. Cutting down from two caretakers to just one....is a huge difference.

Do tired of vomiting
What you're going through needs to be addressed immediately by the doctor. I am very concerned about your hydration. The symptoms you're describing are not a typical experience in any way. To me, they suggest you could possibly have a stricture or another issue that needs correction. Many people never vomit after surgery...not even once. What you're describing sounds so horrible. I'm so sorry you're having these complications and hope you get some relief and get the situation addressed and corrected as soon as possible. I'd like to shake your doctor and his staff.

Surgery with children?
Another vote for doing it staggered. I'd do it six months apart, personally (at least 3). If you have live in help, you might be able to do it a the same time, but I think you'd be a lot better off taking turns.

Stall a complete week and this week
Stalls suck. They're frustrating, demoralizing and just plain depressing. But they're also completely normal and they will pass. Stick to your program. Be consistent. It'll be ok:) I was stalled for three weeks once. Didn't change anything, and the next week I lost 6 pounds. Bodies are weird. Stalls and plateaus happen. Stay the course!

Help
MANY people have a bit of a stall when transitioning from pureed food to solid food when they're about three weeks out. Google "Bariatric Surgery Three Week Stall". It's super common, and super disheartening. But don't be overly concerned! It's normal and if it happens, you're not necessarily doing anything wrong. Our bodies have amazing defense mechanisms developed over thousands of years to prevent starvation. When our calories suddenly dip very low we hormonally and metabolically adjust to maintain our weight as much as we can....so...ya know...we don't starve to death. And yes, this defense mechanism SUCKS for weight loss. But the good news...is that if we stay the course....and stick to our plans consistently...eventually, we do overcome it and the scale starts moving again. I promise. Dthomas....if you're not exceding your calorie goal, if you're journaling what you eat and choosing good food...your mind IS right. Your body is just throwing you a curve ball as a defense against starvation. It's temporary! Stick to your eating plan. Have patience. And have realistic expectations. Most folks are not going to have the 50 pound losses you see on My 600 Pound Life in a few weeks. Also...losing a job and the financial crunch it brings... can be really discouraging and depressing. Exercise really will help you, even if it's just walking a few miles a day. Hang in there. It gets better.

Bounced Emails won't update
Am getting this message in a brown box at the top of my screen: Emails that we send to you are being returned to us. If our emails continue to bounce, we will stop sending emails to you and require you to update your email address. I have tried updating email address twice....to two alternate accounts...the box does not go away. I have checked my blocked senders lists, and bariatricpal is not on it. I seem to be getting post notifications and notification from the store just fine. How do we fix this?

12 days post-op. Depressed and struggling
Strawberry, at some point it's not a bad idea to ask for a little help. What you're going through is no small thing. If you start feeling too desperate, please go in and talk to the therapist, or at least have a consult with your surgeon's office. You're not alone and a lot of resources are in place to get you over the hump. Again...It gets better. It really does. Hang on by your fingernails...but keep hanging on. You're almost to the fun part where the sun comes out again.

12 days post-op. Depressed and struggling
She's hungry. Presurgically, you eat very low calories. Then you have surgery...which demands a massive calorie burden on your body for repairs, and you have a couple of days of consuming nearly no calories. Then starvation level calories for a couple weeks. She's HUNGRY. Sally Struthers Dying Childen in Africa hungry. Body starving hunger. It's demoralizing and HARD. I wanted to chew my own leg off I was so hungry two weeks after surgery. When I started to eat soft foods and had some variety and more calories I felt human again. You don't get it until you experience it. And experiences differ. Some folks are massively nauseated and have a hard time eating anything and all food is tasteless. Some people struggle a lot. Some have an easier time. But if you draw the hungry card...it's still very tough.

12 days post-op. Depressed and struggling
Homemade broth is a lot better tasting for sure. Still....I totally get what the OP is talking about....you eat the same thing for your presurg, then after surgery if just gets so hard. Add in the nutty hormones and it can get pretty bleak. Soft foods are coming, Strawberry...stay the course! You're gonna make it and things are going to get a lot easier. A day at a time. It gets better.

12 days post-op. Depressed and struggling
Hang in there, Strawberry. it gets better. it really does. Your hormones go crazy after surgery and alot of folks get the post surgical blues. i remember at that stage I tried to drink more chicken broth and gagged. it started to taste like a sweaty chicken armpit. LOL. It's a tough time...but you're so close to turning the corner. Brighter days ahead, I promise!
