  1. Hello all, I'm a couple of weeks away from having surgery (rny), and I'm trying to find some products/brands that will fit with what I'm allowed to have for my post op diet. The thing is, being in Canada, many of the brands mentioned on these boards aren't available, and I'm a bit flummoxed. For example, I'm trying to find some sugar free popsicles to have on hand, but I've struck out at my three usual grocery stores. Are there products, like sugar free popsicles or protein powders, that are your go tos? Things that you can find in Canadian stores or from Canadian websites?

Never had whataburger (don't have them here), but popcorn is my weakness and it's not on my pre-op diet at all. That hasn't stopped me from having some a couple of times in the last couple of weeks though. Thankfully the only popcorn we have left in our house is a package of microwave popcorn, which I find revolting. Today is my last day on my hybrid diet. No more food funerals for me. Time to buckle down. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I'm looking forward to more shopping opportunities (only two decent plus size stores here) being able to leave diabetes/high blood pressure/high cholesterol behind saving $$ on prescriptions/food/plus size clothes not getting winded bending over to tie my shoes being able to keep up with my husband and kids being able to attend events like fan expo/comic con and not be in agony after a short time being able to order my cute geeky t-shirts in women's cuts, rather than the boxy men's cuts not worrying regularly about dying before my children get into middle school

To tell or not to tell

I guess I'm a rarity, but I've told everyone in my life and talk about it regularly on FB. And so far the response has been overwhelmingly positive. There's really only one person in my life who's been negative (in a passive-aggressive way) and I know it's all about her worrying that I won't be the biggest in the family any longer.

    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I'm going to sign up again, and hopefully I will do better in May than I did in April. *sigh* I'm currently pre-op, although my surgery is on May 16th. I know I won't be doing much in the way of activity (certainly not push ups) in the last couple of weeks of the month, but my goals for May are: lose another 5 lb before surgery (currently 245.6) by being very strict with my pre-op diet hit 12000 steps every day before surgery, and to walk at least 10 minutes 3x per day after surgery (more hopefully) finish prep for my family for post-op (finish spring cleaning and making freezer meals for them for the first 2 weeks) keep a positive outlook during and after surgery, and to be kind to myself.

    No more meds!!!

Congrats! Thankfully, I've already gone off one (of three) diabetes meds and my hbp meds have been cut in half. Hopeful that after surgery the others will be unnecessary quickly after surgery.

    May 2019 support group

My surgery is a little over two weeks away. I've been on a hybrid liquid diet since April 1. Phase 2 of my liquid diet starts Thursday (5-6 glucerna shakes and 200 cals of veggies per day). Hopefully it will knock out the last three pounds I need to lose before surgery. I need to get active again... I want at least 12000 steps a day between now and surgery. I've also been prepping for my family, cooking freezer meals for the first couple of weeks post op when I know I won't want to be in the kitchen at all. This Friday I'm going to hit up a couple of health food stores for some samples of protein powders to try before I commit to stocking up on something in particular. Good luck to us all...

*quietly slips back into the forums* Apologies for my absence. Some stuff came up (not WLS related) that sent me into a bit of a funk and I didn't feel very much like chatting to anyone. I've tried to stay focused on my pre-op diet, with limited success. But Thursday begins phase two of the diet... 5-6 glucerna shakes, and 200 calories of veg per day. Hopefully it will knock out the last three pounds I need to lose before surgery. I hope everyone is doing well and not feeling too overwhelmed as your dates draw near.
  10. Well, I didn't mean to be away for that long... Went into a bit of a funk due to some stuff going on that's not WLS related and it made me not really want to be communicative.

But I'm feeling a bit better now and the countdown is a lot smaller than it was. 16 days and counting. Day after tomorrow I start phase 2 of my pre-op diet... 5-6 glucerna shakes and 200 calories veggies (no more fruit, no more 500 cal dinner). Hopefully that will get the scale moving again as I've been bouncing within a 3lb range for the past couple of weeks.

Did make a silly mistake. I donated almost all of my long sleeved t-shirts thinking that I wouldn't need them again until next fall and they'd all need to be replaced anyway. Then we got a spring snow storm and cold snap.

Need to refocus on my activity levels, get moving again. The last few days I've been a slug.

Welcome back. I hope you are doing well. I’m trying to prepare for a new wardrobe but I’m still not feeling brave enough to give away the big lady clothes or by anything new.

    Names for my new sleeve

I'm leaning toward calling my pouch Hermione because she's going to be the smart one in this relationship, always pushing me to make better choices and saying 'I told you so'. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

    Supplements and such

Just a heads up about biotin... make sure you let your doc know you're taking it. It can mess with your bloodwork and you should stop taking it 2 weeks before any blood tests. I was advised against taking it. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. Iron can be finicky, especially for women (making an assumption here). Being a little low isn't uncommon. I would confirm with your surgeon about the supplements pre op but I wouldn't be too concerned. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. Seeing as today was the start of my pre-op diet, I decided to make some other changes. They may seem minor to some, but it was hard to do... Today I broke up with almost every food based Facebook and Instagram account I have followed over the years. Restaurants, recipe sites, foodie celebrities, corporate food accounts, and food festivals all got the axe. The only ones I kept were ones that were things that I could realistically see myself continuing to use after surgery (like my favourite hot sauce) and ones that aren't solely food based. Next will be to remove myself from any recipe newsletter mailing lists. And any plus size clothing stores' mailing lists too. Have you had any unanticipated break ups?

    One Week Check UP

Totally normal, especially when you consider that you were pumped full of fluids in hospital. Your body is in shock from the surgery. Be kind to yourself! Give your body time to heal. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. The scale still isn't liking me but AF is in full force, so I'm trying to cut myself some slack. The cravings for protein are still hard core, which is frustrating. I've re-upped my activity levels, which I think is contributing to my increased hunger, but I'm trying to stay busy and not think about food too much. The first two weeks of this liquid diet went so smoothly, I should have expected to hit a wall, now I just have to push past it. I can do this... I will be an outlier.

    This is why....

[emoji4] I'm scheduled for May 16th. The meds are on board now for as long as the docs say I need them... thankfully they've already removed one of my 3 diabetes meds and have cut both my blood pressure meds in half. My goal with surgery from the beginning has been to put the diabetes into remission. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

    Why is everything so sweet?

I've been doctoring my Glucerna shakes for the last couple of weeks. My favourite is adding cinnamon and chipotle powder to my chocolate shakes. Seems to cut that fake sweet taste a little. I'm still pre op and am already looking forward to when I don't need to have so much sweet in my diet. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

    This is why....

My why boils down to 3 things. My husband. My daughter. My son. When my almost-7yo was a year old I was diagnosed with type two diabetes. I had dealt with gestational diabetes twice, and facing the rest of my life with those frustrations and challenges, I committed to losing weight once and for all. And I did lose weight. For a year I did well. I was down almost 80lbs from my highest. Then life got messy and I turned to food again for comfort. I again became a lump on the couch, and to help our meager budget, I went off my meds... for a year. Bad idea. The weight I lost was found. I started getting the tingly toes and fingers that go along with diabetic neuropathy. I was having hypertensive headaches daily. I regularly started having anxiety attacks about my health. I was terrified of dying while my children were still small, of leaving my husband with two kids to care for on his own (my hubs is a great father... but he cannot cook a healthy meal or do a braid to save his life). I was terrified and frozen in place at the same time. What finally sent me back to my doctor was a yeast infection that I couldn't deal with without a prescription. Around that same time two of my SIL were preparing for WLS. I asked a few questions and did my research. And after another 3 or 4 months of working on my courage, I finally asked my doctor to refer me to our bariatric clinic. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Day 17 - I normally only listen to my playlists when I'm driving or when I'm writing, neither of which are on the schedule today. I will see about putting on my happy playlist while I'm prepping dinner (steak fajitas... no tortilla for me... and black bean salad). B-side - I'm not putting myself at the bottom of my list any more.
  23. I have someone in my family who takes pleasure in sharing articles about WLS horror stories. The thing is, I'm certain that she feels threatened by me taking control of my life and my weight. I've always been the biggest and I don't think she likes that I'm making changes.

Favourite binge worthy TV show? Are you sure you want to ask this? LOL... I'm a big nerd and a tv junkie so my list is probably obscene. My husband and I are big fans of GoT, so that's probably number one on my list. Other than that, I love me some PBS dramas and Call the Midwife just started again recently... yay! Can't watch a single episode without crying. And Star Trek: Discovery and the Orville are brilliant. Oh, and we just turned the wee-lings onto Doctor Who...
