So I’m about 18m post-op, below target weight, and now working on adding muscle. Have been working with a personal trainer, and exercising 3 days per week for about 45min-1h per session. My problem, or concern at least, is that for the rest of the day after a workout, I’m just WAY hungrier than I’m accustomed to these days! I’m not sure how much is head hunger, but it feels different I think for my typical daily head hunger that I’ve gotten so good at recognizing. Anyone with experience with this, or advice?

    I am 17m post-op so I am in a similar place.

Hate to break this to you but if you are working out your body is going to need food to repair.

I lift 4x a week and cardio 5-7x a week. I focus very hard on my macros and make sure I get those macros from clean wholesome foods. On days that I lift I add carbs. Carbs are 100% needed to grow, don't be afraid to fuel the body! Rice, Potatoes, Oats etc... Avoid the junk (sugar carbs) though! Eat clean bro and you will get there.

Days that I lift I am eating about 1800 - 2200 calories. I focus the carbs in the morning with Protein and healthy fats through the day.

Above all else, it takes work. Hard work.

Don't forget.... Drink that Water :D

    Hi All,

i just hit one year post op and Iv lost 140lbs but Iv been lacking motivation for about 4 months now and haven’t lost any weight. My recovery post op was a struggle with gout but I’m doing better then ever. However, I’m struggling to eat right and wanting to lose the rest of the weight. Any advice on how you stay motivated to continue this journey?

I totally struggled around the same time in my journey. I knew I needed to start getting serious about exercise if I wanted to get more weight off. I got myself an apple watch and started activity sharing with my friends and chasing after the built in "awards". Well, i'm now down 180 lbs. and I attribute the last 50 or so to getting my ass to the gym and competing with my friends.

I'm 8 weeks post op. I seem to have heck getting my first goal of 300. On monday I was 304. Today, weds, I'm 306. It's like my body is doing the same ol song and dance it used to. Not very promising seeing so many at the same timeline as me dropping like crazy. Anyone else have this problem? What do yall do to get going again?

Don't be discouraged. We have all gone through the swings and plateaus. Remember your body can swing Water weight 5-10lbs in either direction. Stick to the program and the weight will come off. Get that water in!

I'm on Bumble. It's kind of like Tinder but the girl has to message the guy first. Guys can't send messages until receiving.

I use Bumble too. I don't match all that often sadly. When I do match I rarely get the first message from the girl. Its like why even be on the app if you aren't going to message. Meh....

  5. Been using triamterene-hctz for a long while now. At first I had some calf cramping, but adjusted by drinking more Water. My friend who is Dr. of Pharmacy recommended switching out table salt for that pink all natural salt you can buy online (probably in stores too) as it has tons of trace minerals. Haven't had cramps ever since. The triamterene-hctz also slimmed my legs down from swelling. No real side effects to speak of now. Wouldn't worry about it at all.

  6. I have visit #4 coming up on Friday of my supervised 6 month diet (UHC provider). I have been very strict on going exactly one month apart. Each time has been on the 22nd or 23rd of the month. I may need to push this months visit to the 30th of the month. My visits have been, Dec 22, Jan 22, Feb 23... Will March 30 cause an issue in the connective monthly visits since its a week later than the previous visits. I guess I could call the insurance company, but would love to know any real world experiences.

    Thank you!

  7. I was wondering... This is more geared towards United Health Care patients and those required to follow the 6 month medically supervised diet for their insurance company.

At what point will the surgeon's team submit for approval. Do they need to wait till you finish the 6 months? I swore I heard my coordinator say they will submit around the 4 month mark. If that is the case, if approved does that mean I might be able to have surgery sooner rather than later?

Looking for real experiences. I know I can call my doctor's office and ask, but its very busy over there and would rather get some real world examples.

    Thanks!

    Rob

  8. I feel you on the fear. I was there not too long ago. I have been making excuses to my primary care doctor for the last 5 years. Then the blood pressure meds got prescribed, the thyroid meds got prescribed and the glucose started to creep up. I went from saying "what if" something went wrong during the surgery to "what if" I don't address my obesity.

In my case and in what appears to be your case as well... the what ifs for surgery greatly out weigh the what ifs against surgery.

Most surgeons have monthly if not weekly informational seminars. That did it for me. He presented the success % numbers with vs without WLS.. also met people who have gone through the surgery. Maybe check out a seminar or a local support group to calm your fears.

We are all here for you!

    Cheers,
    Rob

  9. I would seriously discuss this with your surgeon. Everyone is going to have their own opinions. At the end of the day a decision should be made based on your medical conditions and need.

I asked my surgeon the same question and he told me that even at my weight he would recommend sleeve as the weight loss results are mostly the same and complications are far less than RNY. He leans more toward RNY for the positive outcome it has to treat patients with diabetes.

    Hope that helps!

If your in northern NJ why not go to NYC. I was at NYU. If you have a complication you don’t want to be in a ‘center’ you want to be in a multidisciplinary full hospital.

Hackensack UMC is where many North Jersey patients go. One of the best in the area according to my research.

  11. I need help I'm suppose to lose 17 pounds for insurance to pay I can't seem to get it off I had to losec23 at first well now I'm stuck 17 pounds and I go January to doc I'm doing everything they tell me,should I do a liquid diet to try more?? Help

I have always been able to shed weight quickly by cutting calories. I’m preop and been having lots of success with meal replacing Breakfast and lunch with Premier Protein and having a low carb dinner ie steak and veggie. It’s tough but works very well for me.

  12. I don't know about youtube, but if you use instagram, search for the tag #vsg. The pictures are so motivational. Seeing what is possible our new 'tool' is amazing. It keeps me focused.

I am in the pre-surgery diet phase now as well. One tip, which is helping me is using a Protein Shake as a Meal Replacement where I would usually consume too many.. specifically lunch time.
