    New and Scared

I feel you on the fear. I was there not too long ago. I have been making excuses to my primary care doctor for the last 5 years. Then the blood pressure meds got prescribed, the thyroid meds got prescribed and the glucose started to creep up. I went from saying "what if" something went wrong during the surgery to "what if" I don't address my obesity. In my case and in what appears to be your case as well... the what ifs for surgery greatly out weigh the what ifs against surgery. Most surgeons have monthly if not weekly informational seminars. That did it for me. He presented the success % numbers with vs without WLS.. also met people who have gone through the surgery. Maybe check out a seminar or a local support group to calm your fears. We are all here for you! Cheers, Rob

    Bybass vs Sleeve

I would seriously discuss this with your surgeon. Everyone is going to have their own opinions. At the end of the day a decision should be made based on your medical conditions and need. I asked my surgeon the same question and he told me that even at my weight he would recommend sleeve as the weight loss results are mostly the same and complications are far less than RNY. He leans more toward RNY for the positive outcome it has to treat patients with diabetes. Hope that helps!

    North New Jersey Peeps!

Hackensack UMC is where many North Jersey patients go. One of the best in the area according to my research.

Did He keep you two days? I heard he likes to keep Sleeve patients an extra day just to be safe.

    Pre-op diet for everyone?

I have always been able to shed weight quickly by cutting calories. I’m preop and been having lots of success with meal replacing breakfast and lunch with premier protein and having a low carb dinner ie steak and veggie. It’s tough but works very well for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. New here, pre-certification 6 month diet phase. Looking at May 2018.
  8. I don't know about youtube, but if you use instagram, search for the tag #vsg. The pictures are so motivational. Seeing what is possible our new 'tool' is amazing. It keeps me focused. I am in the pre-surgery diet phase now as well. One tip, which is helping me is using a protein shake as a meal replacement where I would usually consume too many.. specifically lunch time. Best Rob

    Medically Supervised Diet/Nutrition Visits

I was given the choice. My PCP has a lower co-pay so I went with my PCP vs my surgeon's office. They really didn't seem to care at all. The surgeon's office did provided me with a form for each month to have my PCP sign and date w/ my recorded weight.

What surgery did you choose and why

After meeting with my Surgeon and doing research we both agreed on VSG. My understanding is that Co-morbidities, specifically Diabetes plays into this equation. Luckily I have none of the previously mentioned so Sleeve seemed right. I would point out that while RNY does add the malabsorption, I read in several articles that after 2 years that advantage subsides considerable and you need to be careful w/ calories. Good luck with your Journey. Cheers!

    North New Jersey Peeps!

Dr. Schmidt, Trivedi and Ewing ran the HUMC seminar. Very informative. I met with Trivedi today. Very nice man, lots of patience with all my questions. I also did my nutritional evaluation with their in house Nutritionist. All went smooth. Now, six months for pre-op diet and I should be all set.

    North New Jersey Peeps!

I have my first appointment with Dr. Trivedi from Advanced Laparoscopic Associates in Paramus coming soon. I attended the HUMC seminar and was very impressed. My GP recommended Dr. Trivedi, but everywhere I ask, I hear the same thing. He is the goto guy in the area. Per the Lapband, everything I read kinda pointed to VSG as the best for success. Everyone's journey is different. Good Luck!
