How many vodka's
I can drink with no problem with the band. One drink usually gets me tipsy though... so beware of that!

Family Functions and Inconsiderate Family
Why do you stop drinking 30 minutes before you eat? I drink right up until my first bite and have never had a problem. My doc recommends not drinking for 30 minutes AFTER you eat.... but drinking BEFORE you eat is fine and dandy.

Sopranos Last Episode - WTF??
I was super disappointed in last night's ending. After all the build up they did to have it end like it did really sucks. The writing for the show was sooo much better in the earlier seasons. This season and last were not up to par AT ALL. I do love me some Tony Soprano and hope there is a movie!

Ohhhhhhh! The babies are beautiful duckie! Thanks for sharing.... THAT'S really gonna help my baby fever!! I am doing okay here. My knee is doing great, PT twice a week is really making a difference in my mobility and range of motion. I see my doc again in a month and then we discuss getting my skates back on. My weightloss is at a stand still. In fact I GAINED right after my knee surgery. Yup... I packed on 14 pounds in a week!!! I blame it on Percoset. All I did was lay around and eat...constantly. I had the munchies and stayed in a drug haze for 6 days after my surgery. Not a good idea. Good news is that I have lost 8 of those pounds but that still puts me 6 pounds above my lowest. Dammit! Not being able to excercise is killing me. Sometimes I think I need a fill and other times I PB. I don't know what the answer is. My doc is in Africa until July so I can't call him (not that I probably would) I think once I can get back to skating I will be on the losing side again but I might go crazy in the meantime!! Take care!

Hi! Glad you came out of lurking! Dr K's staff has been with him for years and years... I think it's endearing that they call him "Doctor"... just showing respect for him is all. On a side note though... I wasn't aware that Dr K did this surgery with insurance involved. My understanding was he was just banding self payers. I guess I'm wrong though if you have insurance and you have a consultation with him. Lucky girl you are to have insurance to cover the band! Keep in touch and let us know how things are going! Feel free to ask any questions you might have, you will find a wealth of information here!

Missy.... I agree with Alex. Protein shakes and bars will be the easiest, least thought inducing diet. It's good nutrition on a short term basis. I am so sorry for all that you are going through!

Hi girls!! I am doing great! The knee is healing and I'm getting around pretty well. I pulled something in it last night trying to wrestle my dog into his kennel so it's pretty swollen today but PT tonight should help with that. I am looking forward to seeing you girls on Wednesday!!!

I'm doing fine. Just trying to get through the rest of this damned work day so I can go home and ice my achin' knee! You are seriously kicking ass with your weight loss girl! I am really proud of you! I need to get my butt back in gear once the knee heals up and I can excercise again. I have gained about 8 pounds here in the past few weeks! Yikes! I am soooo looking forward to next Wednesday!

May 06 Bandsters - May Chat!
I'm here... just been lurking for the most part lately. Surgery went well. The knee doesn't hurt much, mostly just stiff. I gained about 8 pounds in the past few weeks. Not being able to excercise is killing me. I also discovered that percocet makes me have the munchies REALLY bad. I am getting back to better habits and hope to see onderland SOMEDAY. That's all folks!

Eat before a fill? Need quick reply!
I have eaten right before a fill. Call your doc and ask what they recommend!

As far as I know Dr K only does fills in his office in Aurora. A fill with him is pretty easy. He will have you lie on the exam table and poke around on your belly to see if he can feel your port. If he can't feel it he will use ultrasound to locate it (little wand he presses on your belly with some ultrasound gel) Once he locates your port he cleans the area with iodine (bzk) He then puts sterile gloves on and inserts the needle into the port. Sometimes he has to poke you a couple of times before he gets it just right. I can feel a little "pop" once he accesses my port. Once the needle is in the port he will have you sit on the side of the table (I choose to stand because the needle hurts my fat roll) Don't look down! The needle is pretty big and it freaked me out to be standing there with a needle sticking out of me like an arrow. He will have you drink a glass of water while he adds saline until you feel restriction. Restriction is a very tricky bitch if you've never felt it before. You are looking for the feeling of "gurgling" in the back of your throat as you feel the water go down. You want the water to drain slowly into your pouch. I hope this helps! Good luck and I can't wait to meet you!

Hi girls! I finally feel like I am back to the land of the living. The past week has been spent in a pain killer haze. I discovered that Percocet gives me the munchies and I weighed myself this morning and damned if I didn't gain a few pounds! I had PT yesterday morning then came in and worked a half day. I was in a horrible mood and was hating life. I just wanted to go home and take a nap! After work I went home and took some pain meds and napped for a couple of hours then went to a photo shoot for roller derby for our 2008 calendar. I just hung around and watched for an hour. It was nice to be around my girls! I took Vicodin last night instead of Percocet and I feel like a different person today! No more Percocet for me!! My knee is doing fine. Still a lot of swelling but that's to be expected I guess. I don't have too much pain, it's mostly just stiff and achy. Thanks for all your kind words and for thinking about me! I can't wait to see you all next week! Mal... I am thinking of you and can't wait to hear the outcome on Friday! Woof... LOVE the new pic! You go girl! Dynamo.... You are so strong!! I am proud of you for getting through a rough weekend!

Hi Girls! I am here! Surgery went fine, there was less damage to my knee than was expected. They shot me up with drugs in my knee to avoid too much anesthesia and narcotics since I have a tendancy to get nauseas (sp?) with that kind of stuff. I got to educate a whole new team of docs and nurses on the band. They were all very impressed with my progress so far. I thought I got off scott free as far as pain goes with my knee but I just woke up from a nap and it hurts like hell. Just sent the hubby to get me some crutches to use for a few days even. Yay for percocet!! I feel honored that you quoted me Woofie. Just take it one day at a time, girlfriend, and you will be fine. We didn't get fat overnight and we're not gonna get skinny that way either. Off to go lay down. Thanks for all your warm wishes!
