    Clear protein drinks suggestions.

I actually had a trimono this morning- I saw them at CVS yesterday! It’s not my favorite taste in the world but it’s definitely doable.

Omg this is such a good idea too. is the regular muffin tin to big (usually)? Should I buy a mini muffin tin?

Also @GreenTealael your part omelet part frittata concoction has inspired future me- make that, slice it up into new WLS portions, and then quick and easy breakfasts in the morning! Hopefully I am not one of the people who has trouble with eggs, but if I do I will adjust and conquer!

    Food Before and After Photos

I have so many questions and comments and you guys seem so awesome- you're all killing it! I am currently on day 7 of my 14 day pre-op liquid diet. Tomorrow I start clear liquids only and VSG is next Wednesday, October 17, at 1 pm (also super cranky that I didn't get a morning surgery time because my lips are going to be CHAPPED going all morning without water). When I first found out my program is 4 weeks of mashables (thats what they call puree/mashed/soft foods. If I can tear it up with a fork and its moist I can eat it) I was frustrated I wouldn't be able to try real food until after week 6. Now, all I am doing is fantasizing about my mashable foods and all of the options. Now for the questions and comments: Did anyone not like cottage cheese start to like it after surgery? I have always disliked cottage cheese, to the point I haven't tried it in years and now dont even know if I genuinely dislike it because the last time I tried it I was a kid. Do beans count as protein or as a vegetable or as a starch? Whoever showed a slice of turkey with a slice of cheese melted inside, you are brilliant. That is so simple and looks so good. Now I am craving chicken salad in a romaine lettuce leaf. I dont even want the sandwich bread right now. I am also craving "burrito bowls." In my head thats mashed beans, moist chicken (made in the crockpot with salsa until moist and shredded, most likely), lime juice, plain greek yogurt, and maybe some salsa verde. In my head that sounds like a good meal with good protein and low carb (knowing my 2 tablespoons at a time limit) - is my head wrong? Also this liquid diet made me get my period which I was not expecting and my teacher just told me to hang in there and now I am crying in the library (I am a law student) for reasons I don't fully understand. Hormones + liquids only is not fun.

    Clear protein drinks suggestions.

Hi @mooreva0725 ! I can’t have ready made protein drinks as long as they are clear, not “shakes” like the regular premier protein or muscle milk. Does that make sense?
  7. Hi Arondomme! I would listen to your gut (pun intended) and go back to the liquid diet; then slowly start reintroducing foods again! You can also give your surgeon a call to see what they suggest- you did pay them bunches to be able to do so!

Not doing great in pre-op diet

Today is day 4 of my 2 week liquid diet and I am struggling hard. All I want is one bite of orange chicken from panda express. I even looked up the nutrition info and 1 ounce of orange chicken would have less than the 9 grams of fat and 6 grams of sugar (my plans requirement for my liquids). I am currently fantasizing about walking into the restaurant, asking for a sample of orange chicken, and walking out. I am currently resenting my cat who is loudly crunching on her cat food. I have a lot of work I need to do today, but I almost think I need to get back in bed and go to take a nap because when I am napping I am not obsessing over food.

Not doing great in pre-op diet

Nice! I live alone so i don’t have to worry about cooking for others. I get the bones from the local butcher where the beef is grass fed and then roast and simmer on low in my crockpot for 24 hours. The beef broth I did onions, carrots, garlic, celery, and a bay leaf.
  10. I am currently on day two of my pre-op diet, and I am in the full liquids phase. I had the most amazing black bean soup for dinner. It was so delicious, even without things like sour cream or avocado or tortilla strips. I want to make a big batch tomorrow, but it was so good I am now wondering if it is allowed because it has a bean base, even though I blended it and then ran it through the fine mesh strainer. The ingredients are: low sodium black beans, vegetable broth, diced green chili’s, cumin, onions, garlic, and lime juice. When I ran it through a recipe generator it was like 100 calories per serving with 1 gram of fat and 2 grams of sugars but with 30 grams of carbs. My handbook says to make sure that per serving the liquid needs to have less than 6 grams of sugar and less than 9 grams of fat. When I asked about an overall carb count restriction she said there wasn’t one, assuming I’m as close to the 800 calories as possible. I know know I can call the coordinator and ask her thoughts but I’m wondering if I’m just overthinking it. It’s clearly within the sugar and fat restrictions, it’s just the overall high carb count that has me conflicted. What are y’alls thoughts?

    Full liquids question.

Thank you! I tried the kettle and fire Thai curry bone broth for lunch (thinned out with some homemade beef bone broth because 1 serving is about a gram too high in fat so I did 3/4s a serving) and I was surprised to open the container and find chunks. I strained it all out but I figured I would check. It was super tasty!

Not doing great in pre-op diet

It's doable with bone broths. That makes sense! I have a batch of ginger lemon bone broth I want to make to mix up the flavors with the standard. Are you making your own or just doing pre-packaged. I’m having a rough time figuring out the nutrition facts on the homemade bone broth- I’ve been basing it off the pacific foods bone broth label but would love tips if you have any.

That sounds awful. My plan lets you have protein powder mixed with water on clear liquids. I’m not excited about the flavor but least I’ll be able to get my protein in. How does your plan expect you to get 60-80 grams of protein during your clear liquids phase?

    Full liquids question.

So are broth based soups with chunks allowed on full liquid if all chunks are strained out (no pureeing)?

Not doing great in pre-op diet

Currently on day 3 of 14 of liquid pre-op diet. Im full liquids now, 7 days out I switch to clear liquids. I actually always hated protein shakes, but the premier protein caramel and muscle milk protein shakes actually taste okay. In the mornings i mix a half packet of syntrax nectar with my oikos triple zero greek yogurt and it tastes pretty good, gives me 30 grams of protein, and makes me feel full. switching to clear liquids will be hard because the greek yogurt is saving me. I'm not excited about mixing protein powder with water. I feel like I am rambling and I do not remember what the point of my comment was. oops.

    Full liquids question.

Sigh. I’ll hide the black beans in the back of the pantry. It’s not fun being non compliant when I wasn’t even trying to cheat. Oh well. I can have it in a month

    Feeling frustrated

I had my meeting with the nutritionist about the program for the pre-op liquid diet and post op diet. I had been mentally preparing myself for what I found online- I would graduated through stages weekly and would be able to introduce solid food after week four. Apparently my program does a six week progression- week one is clear liquids, week two is full liquids, and the next FOUR weeks after is pureed food. Something about that extra two weeks I wasn’t expecting has me feeling very frustrated. Does anyone else’s program do this?

    Feeling frustrated

Omg that is too funny. French onion soup strained of the onions is the first batch of soup I’m making for my pre op diet that starts Wednesday! ETA: I am also looking at a Thai butternut squash and carrot soup but I’m probably going to email my nutritionist the recipe to be sure. I have a lot of chicken broth ideas but I’m holding off until clear liquids only for that.
  19. I just got off the phone with my surgical coordinator. It’s really going to happen. I have me pre-op meeting with the nutritionist on Monday, pre-op tests and meeting with my doctor Tuesday, and the 2 week liquid diet starts next Wednesday. I feel like I just won the lottery. I have so many questions running through my head. I am not worried about the actual surgery, but I know the 2 week liquid diet is going to suck. But I am so ready.
  20. Just got off the phone with the coordinator! October 17 at 1 pm! I feel like I won the lottery, I am so excited. My pre-op nutrition visit is this coming Monday, and then my pre-op tests and pre-op visit are Tuesday. 2 week liquid diet starts Wednesday. I’m honestly more stressed about the pre-op diet than the actual surgery.

    Insurance setback- heartbroken

At my surgery consult my doctor told me he didn't think my insurance mandated a 6 month supervised diet, and that we could most likely do the surgery during winter break. Well, my insurance does. I feel heartbroken, and like I have been sucker punched in the stomach. I allowed myself to feel hopeful that I could jump on that train to change my life and be healthy and able to do things like run. I have been fat my whole life- and I feel like I was so close to the new, healthier life, that I feel shattered. I know in theory 6 months shouldn't be a long time, but it really messes with my school schedule, especially if I have to wait six months before even submitting approval. I am in law school, so the ABA sets a maximum amount of classes that I can miss (its not like undergrad where a doctors note would take care of the school issue).

    Insurance setback- heartbroken

@BrownsugarNY luckily in this case (I guess the only lucky part) is I have health insurance through my school, so my insurance coverage period goes from August 14 2017 to August 13 2018. So even with the delay I’m (hopefully) looking at a May surgery date.

    Week ONE clear liquids

Weren’t you required to meet with a nutritionist before your surgery? They’re the ones who could help you with a day to day meal plan.
  24. I just left my consult with my surgeon and wow I feel great. I feel so full of hope. He doesn’t think my insurance will mandate a 6 month supervised diet, and since I am a law student he is on board with me hopefully getting it over winter break. Next step is to wait for the insurance coordinator to get an explanation of benefits and then she will call me and we can start scheduling appointments. I am so hopefully and excited. I will be getting the sleeve and I am ready for this positive life change.
