  1. I’m losing weight! Do you know how I can tell? I got ready for school this morning and I put on my every day shoes and I started walking and I realized they were loose. That’s right folks, out of all of the fat on my body I am losing weight in my FEET. What a Monday.

    I’m losing weight!

It’s official! I really am losing weight. I stopped by to pick up my vitamins at my surgeons office and jumped on the scale. Down 14 pounds since starting my pre-op liquid diet! Surgery is tomorrow, so hopefully liver has shrunk appropriately

    Tips for preparing for surgery

You are going to get so sick of protein shakes that I strongly recommend not starting sooner than necessary. Instead I would second @skinnylife and follow the real food stage plan with very low carb and high protein.
  4. I know this sounds crazy but I just started the clear liquid phase of my pre op diet and am on clear liquids until my surgery on October 17. I am so sick of liquids, and at this point I genuinely don’t know how I’m supposed to reach 800 calories on clear liquids only. It’s not that I’m not hungry (man I would kill for a single piece of buttered sourdough toast), but I feel bloated (hormone related) and just exhausted of these liquids to the point where I don’t even want to eat more soup broth. Has anyone else had these issues?
  5. I had the full schedule of fun- EKG, barium upper GI swallow thing, blood work, ultrasound, a urinalysis, and I even got a bag of stuff to take home so I can bring them my poop to test. I definirely made the radiologists life a lor more interesting while we were doing the barium test. It was the doctor and two technicians, and while I was going from the standing test to the sitting test I looked at the radiograph of my esophagus that was up on their chart. I was tired and cranky because I had to fast for all these tests and I was already on the liquid diet, so before I knew it I was pointing out that the thing on the screen looked like a penis (it even had shadowy spheres that looked like testicles at the base). They were flabbergasted, the doctor was literally speechless. One of the techs says “we’ve never had anyone say that before.” Well am I wrong? No answer, I swallowed more gross barium, and we all went our ways with a little more humor in the day.

    I’m losing weight!

@frust8 how are you doing after your EGD? Did they figure out what’s wrong?

    Anyone regretting this?

If water has a metallic taste try bottled waters like Evian, Fiji, or even pure distilled. Try sucking on sugar free popcicles Try hot herbal tea- play around with both the temperature and the flavors. Peach tranquility and mint majesty from Starbucks both have great flavor with no added sweetener. If what you need to do is rant and cry than rant and cry and hang on and put one tiny baby foot in front of the other. And soon, this too shall pass.

    I am SO HUNGRY.

Real Good Foods makes a cauliflower crust pizza with 20 grams of protein and 6 grams of net carb per serving! I used to hate cauliflower crusted stuff but I snuck a small bite of my friends while on this diet and i loved it! it is amazing how my tastebuds and cravings are already changing-- I went from craving orange chicken from panda express in the first few days to craving steamed broccoli and sliced cucumber.

    I am SO HUNGRY.

I started my 7 day clear liquids only diet on wednesday (week before that was full liquids) and I am STARVING. I got used to the full liquids but I don’t know if I can get used to this. I’m scatterbrained and can’t focus and I just want a piece of plain baked chicken and a cucumber. This is pure misery and I don’t know how I’m going to last until October 17

    I am SO HUNGRY.

Hi @mousecat88❤️ Thank you for checking in. I really am feeling better knowing it is so close. It also helped me to start a list of foods I am craving that I will check off once it is safe to do so. I have this idea for lasagna cups with eggplant instead of pasta baked in muffin tins, and I really want some scrambled eggs with cheese and crumbled turkey breakfast sausage. Writing them down and reminding myself there are tasty things in my future helped me to not obsess! Also, finding the premier protein clear drinks were a game-changer for me- they are the best tasting protein drink out of all the protein drinks, with no after taste!

Operation set for the 18th of October!

Omg! You’re in Louisiana too? I’m not scared of the surgery. I have complete confidence in my surgeon. I’m worried my liver hasn’t shrunk even though I have lost weight on the pre op diet. I am apprehensive about the 6 weeks of liquids and mushy foods. But I’m not scared. I’m excited. And I’m ready.

We’re almost twins! October 17 here!

    Why liquids only?

Most of the people here are instructed to do liquids only in the weeks leading up to their surgery, myself included. Also the hallmark of a Keto diet is that it is low carb, high fat. Fat is also something that I was instructed to minimize in my pre-op diet because the liver stores fat as well as carbs. No vegetables for me, I would kill for some steamed broccoli and sliced cucumber.
  14. Asking for a very hungry friend who is on clear liquids only for the week leading up to surgery and not me. Nosiree Bob not me.

    Acne and a New Diet

I get bad hormonal cystic acne and a few blackheads and regular pimples here and there. By day three of the pre-op liquid diet my skin was glowing from all of the bone broth- I guess that collagen really does improve your skin! The whole starving myself under medical supervision thing also caused me to have a breakthrough period, which was literally a living hell. Evwn with that I only got two small pimples that have already faded, when the norm is usually two or three big cystic pimples that hang around for weeks. So long term, I’m not sure. But so far my skin loves the liquid diet (and that’s the only part of me that does) also i I know you say you’ve tried every topical but have you tried differin? It used to be Rx only and is now OTC. It doesn’t completely clear all of my acne, but it manages it very well

    Non Plain Water Drink Choices

I am in clear liquids only of my pre op diet. Here are My favorites so far - hint water! Watermelon and pineapple are my favorite but I haven’t had a bad one. I’ve loved hint water since before I was even thinking about getting wls. -trimino protein water in coconut/pineapple. This has 7 grams of whey protein isolate. Ice cold the flavor was decent, but I hated the apple flavored one. - a&w root beer packets. I found these at Walmart with the crystal light. I HATE that fake sugar after taste of water enhancers, and while I have never beem a big soda drinker my drink of choice was root beer when I did. This tastes EXACTLY like a root beer minus the carbonation, but still only has 10 calories in a pack (one pack per 16 oz water). I have some premier protein clear out for delivery today, so hopefully it doesn’t taste awful.

    Fever???

My team told me anything over 101.5 get to the doctor because it’s a sign of dehydration.
  18. I’m bringing - my super hydrating overnight lip mask. I hate chapped lips - a sleeping shirt that goes to my knees and has a sequin cat on it - fuzzy socks with grips at the bottom - my phone, iPad, and portable charger - loose sleeping pants to wear home under my sleeping shirt -deodorant - face wipes and a moisturizer -underwear - headphones. Good idea on bringing my own pillow, I’ll add it to my list!

The thought of a catheter.. scary!

As a 23 year old female who has never given birth to another human I just wanted to chime in and say hell yes Im scared of a catheter.
  20. I am lucky in that I’m allowed to mix protein powder with water during my clear liquid phase for both pre- and post- op, but my pre op clear liquids lasts for a week. I would love your clear liquid protein drink suggestions, especially if they can be purchased in single- bottles or brick and motor stores.
  21. Tomorrow the 7 day countdown begins! Surgery date October 17 at 1 pm.

The thought of a catheter.. scary!

Asking about the catheter was one of the first things I did once I met my surgeon for my first consult!

    Should I buy a scale?

You got this @MargoCL ! I also really appreciate that I think you have responded to every question I’ve asked? Thanks for being willing to share your journey.

    Should I buy a scale?

That is my number one concern- obsessing about it! Sounds like I should go with my gut and stay scale free.
