    Gas pain in shoulders

Sleeved the same day and also have some residual pressure/pain in my left shoulder. I've been using a heating pad, icy hot, deep massage, yoga, and lifting some light weights. It's not making it go away, but it's making it more manageable.
  3. I thought I wasn't eating enough, but you guys have me thinking I'm eating too much. I was sleeved the 29th. The first day was clears only. Small amounts of water and broth. Added in protein shakes on day too. I think I got through one full shake over the day. Yesterday I had two shakes over the course of the day, and about 1.5 cups broth. My stomach is definitely still retaining fluid. I'm only down 5 pounds, and the jeans I went in wearing are too tight due to my swollen belly.

    Considering VSG/Kaiser

What region are you in? In my region, you attend a mandatory wls program before you can meet with the bariatric surgeon. I did not attend that program (too low BMI for Kaiser), but heard about it at my program (their weight management classes) as many of the wls patients transition to that class after surgery. It seems they are very strict about their requirements, BUT the bariatric doctors may be able to help you find areas you qualify. I was diagnosed with fatty liver, which I think is a pretty standard diagnosis for an obese person. I was also tested for sleep apnea in hopes that could be my second qualification, but no apnea here. I ended up going self pay.
  5. My doctor had me on one week of 2 shakes a day, one light meal. My surgery was the week after Thanksgiving, and he gave me permission to have a 'regular' Thanksgiving meal. No elimination drink the night before, and no liquid diet (no solids after 8pm, nothing to eat/drink after midnight. In recovery, he told me my surgery was a breeze.

    November sleevers here

Surgery was yesterday. I'm doing shockingly well. Perhaps because I'm lower BMI (35)? This is nothing compared to having my gallbladder removed a few years ago. I was asking to get up and go potty before I was fully awake. She had me wait about 10 minutes before going, and I was a bit wobbly and nauseated, but shuffled just fine. After my trip to the bathroom the nurse allowed me to walk the hall and at the end of the hall she'd pound my back/shoulders while I burped out air. I was still pretty out of it due to the anesthesia, but I think we were headed home within about an hour of waking up. At home, I slept on and off while the anesthesia wore off, taking breaks to walk and have my husband pound my back while I burped. I knew from my gallbladder surgery that if I didn't get the air out, it would be painfully. Thankfully I was able to get all the air out by about 5pm (surgery was at 11am). I had started to feel pretty nauseated which limited my walking to about a 5 minute hotel hall walk per session, but if not for the nausea, I could have walked without limits. I can walk normally, completely without pain. I even slept on my tummy without pain. Aside from my insides/stomach and the continued nausea this morning, I feel 100% normal. The doctor has me on clear liquids the first 24hr. Room temperature water and broth. The broth tastes vile to me (and I love soup/broth). I watered it down, and was only able to stomach about 4oz (not counting the water) the whole day. I was able to get down about 32oz of water (not counting watered down broth), but it was laborious. I'm hoping things continue to go this smoothly. I go in for a check-up and IV therapy this morning. Aside from terrible breath and bouts of nausea (which thankfully I have a prescription to help with), this morning I'm feeling way better than I had expected.

    Why is it a secret?

I made the mistake of discussing the idea with friends and family several years ago. I'm lower BMI (35) and they thought I was insane to take surgical steps when I could keep the weight off if I would just up the diet and exercise. Um, those things consume my life anytime I'm able to lose weight, and even still I've never made it even close to a healthy BMI. Not a single person was supportive, except for my husband. Now, 5 years later, actually going through with the procedure, I've decided to keep things private. As far as coworkers, acquaintances, and other peripheral people, I just tend to be private in general. It's not their business, I don't really care if they spend their mental energy coming up with theories on my weight loss.

    Anyone Watching This Is Us?

I did NOT like the way Kate was portrayed the first season. It felt like her storyline was to be fat and maybe a little grief, but nothing more. I'm liking her much more this season. Hate her boyfriend though, hate the story of their courtship, and don't think they have any chemistry at all. Aside from that, though, I love the show! Randall and his wife are the best TV couple ever. Adorable, totally believable chemistry, they play off one another seamlessly.

    One year apart!

OMG are your bra indentations gone??? I just assumed those suckers we permanent. I hope mine go away!! You look incredible. Congratulations.
  10. I'm a very private person, and lower BMI. I'm not telling others because I want to preserve my privacy, and because I don't want to hear their opinions (even my PCP tried to suggest "diet and exercise" to me, like she hasn't seen my yoyoing with that for 25 years). I'm telling my husband, and no one else. I'm calling in sick to work (thankfully I have that kind of flexibility!), and I've already advertised around work that I'm starting a "cleanse".

    PCP discouragement

I'm dealing with the same thing right now. My BMI hovers around 34 to 35, and has off and on for the last 25 years (gaining and losing the same 30# every couple of years). The second I saw the bariatric doctor's paperwork, I knew I was facing an uphill battle. In addition to the preop labs and tests, which I think PCP would reluctantly order, they want my PCP to sign a form that states PCP deems weight loss surgery to be medically necessary. As predicted, PCP is balking at signing this form, as 'diet and exercise' should be sufficient.

    Any Montana Sleevers?

Baseballfan, Who did your surgery in Vegas? I'm self pay and was hoping for Vegas, but I've been surprised by the prices. Near $15K. I had read Umbach was near $10K, but was quoted $14,500 ($15,500 if financed).
