  1. Ok me too! Exact same! On on pre-op diet now and feeling so hungry and deprived that I'm having cold feet. We must be normal if 3 of us are feeling this way. Maybe it's the hunger talking..lol

I think it is normal to have those thoughts. I always go back to the comment I hear and see repeatedly “I only wish I had done it sooner.”

  2. I try to eat mainly Proteins but don't stick to any strict diet plan exactly. But i definitely eat small portions! I stay away from breads, tortillas, carbs that will fill me up fast. Also I stay away from sugary stuff as it usually makes me not feel good. I work out at the gym a couple days a week doing walking and core strength exercises and also ride 2 horses a day so I stay super active!

My tip is to mix things up! Don't get stuck with the same diet and exercise plan day in and day out! Whenever I hit plateaus it really helped me to change up my routine a bit to jump start the weight loss again!

Recently my daughter went into the ICU and has been at Children's hospital for 3 months now [emoji22] I have learned that even after surgery I am still very much a stress eater. I hit a major plateau and actually started gaining! I nipped that in the butt by starting on this amazing nutrition supplement called Thrive! It is not meant to be a quick fix for weight loss by any means but to improve overall health by filling any nutritional gaps and it has been a life changer! It's given me more energy and motivation to work out, I don't have as many cravings and has helped me handle my stress and I feel genuinely happier! If anyone wants more info, email me at stephanie7626@hotmail.com!

Thank you everyone for the sweet comments! It's so nice to feel this good about myself!

    You look terrific! Congratulations!

  3. So I said I would post stats today. My name is Michelle, and live in Phoenix with my husband, but we have lived all over the US.

    HW 282 ish in 2012 or 2013
CW 268 (start of Clear Liquids on Saturday)
    GW 175 to start
Height 5’1 and a half (every centimeter counts)

Surgery date 11/17 at Mercy Gilbert Hospital in Arizona
    PCP clearance 11/6
    Preop 11/7

Tip: if you use GENEPRO, try it in Celestial Seasonings Apple Cinnamon Spice. It’s pretty good.

  4. I apparently have a hiatal hernia and gastritis but no symptoms. My doc will repair the hernia (both of my parents had hiatal hernias). I have to take Prilosec now, but I am pretty sure I need to stop taking massive doses of Excedrin. I have done that. My surgeon says that some people with GERD preop don’t have it post op sleeve, but some have no change. Some people get GERD for the first time. He thinks that having GERD is not a reason to get bypass instead of sleeve.

  5. Thought I would actually introduce myself finally. I’ve been here for a few months. I will be sleeved on Tuesday November 7th at 7:30 am. I’m muskegon Michigan. I’m 42 year old disabled single mom to one 12 year old. My starting stats are
    HW 385 in July.
    CW 346 11/03/17
    SW
Goal Weight 175 Drs goal 207. I just want happy and healthy. I quit smoking two years ago and that didn’t help my weight any at all.

Welcome! Congrats on your surgery! I have surgery on 11/17. I look forward to following your journey.

  6. Here goes - I'm 14 months out. My biggest complication has been to create a budget for new clothes.
I'm 56. I have two teenage daughters - one a freshman in college, one a freshman in high school. At my highest known weight I was 271.5 (photos I have seen indicate I was probably larger at points, but didn't get on scales). That was April 2016. I had my surgery August 2016. I weigh 166 right now. My BMI went from 48 to 29. I still want to lose another 15 pounds. I'm 5'3".
Sometimes, I get nauseous if I eat things with too many carbs or too much sugar - that's my body reminding me not to go back to bad habits. It has happened about 4 times since surgery. I took my nausea meds for a day or two after surgery and that was it. I didn't use any pain pills after discharge from the hospital. I take a PPI daily and have no issues with heartburn or reflux. I drink wine when I want (but only after I have met my Protein and Water goals for the day and have calories left over to do so). I eat what my family eats because I cook for them. I use Barilla Protein Pasta instead of the regular Barilla pastas and we all have spaghetti or ziti together.
My bloodwork looks great. My team wants me to be a success story for our support groups. I've gone from barely fitting in a size 22 to being a size 8. My profile photo is from about six month ago - so its not accurate. I fence (en garde) 5 hours a week and work out in the gym another 2-3.
My biggest complication has been wrapping my head around the fact that I'm not fat anymore. I still, in my mind, see myself as the fat woman I have been for so long. I weigh less now than I did when my husband married me 20 years ago.
What makes this surgery successful or not is getting your head in the right place. If you are already resentful, then you are not in a good place to do this. You may want to work with a therapist on what is holding you back from taking care of yourself. This only works if you are going to make the plan work and are committed to it. I decided I didn't want to be the fat mom any more. That I wanted to be able to dance at my daughters' weddings when they married and not be in a wheelchair because my joints gave out from carrying almost 300 pounds on a 5'3" frame. I wanted to be healthy. The only regret I have is that I didn't do this 10 years sooner.
Best of luck on your journey.

    Love it!

  7. When I was going thru "THE $500.00" class that my Surgeon charged us to go thru the manual that he gave us. I was told by him, his nurse and the nutritionist, that in time there are no FORBIDDEN FOODS. We just need to learn Portion Control. And eat everything in MODERATION!!! Now that I am over 4 years out I can finally have 1 slice of bread (I mean whole grain good for you bread) I do have a 1/2 of a sandwich once and awhile. There are a few things that don't work for me such as eggs and Steak. I miss my Steak bad!!! Each of us has to find our new NORMAL. Noone can tell you what to eat. What works for me and you may not work for the other person!! Good Luck in whatever surgery you decide on.

Geez, that is a new one for me. That sounds a bit high, but it sounds like you are doing well. I guess it was worth it.

  8. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts/experiences. My PCP is not keen on it either. She feels that the 150+ pounds I need to lose can be done with just diet and exercise. I've been there and done that! I gain it all back plus more! I didn't know that our PCP had to give their approval for surgery. I'm not sure mine will.

    DR Potential Sleever

I was sure my pcp would say no, so I found a new one who didn’t. My hospital couldn’t refer me, but they did tell me the names of some pcps who refer patients to their Bariatric surgery center

  9. Surgery was 10/16, down 16 lbs from surgery date. Feeling great! First day back at work, and found out that my slacks I wore pre-surgery are not possible to fit in now. Have to go shopping tonight for a few pair to hold me over for a few weeks. It's good to be able to see and feel the difference, even in a short time. Almost 70lbs down from my highest weight.

You look terrific! Congratulations! I hope to have similar results. I have a wardrobe of sizes, but I am going to buy some new things each time I go down anyway.

Enjoy your successes as they come!

  10. Surgery Was on 10/03, down 25.6 lbs. Weight loss slowed this week, but I am losing inches. I feel great. Red meat doesn't sit well with me nor does cheating by trying to sample bad choices, so yep...I stopped that nonsense. I finally got a small hunger feeling this week, but no cravings. I didn't see a difference, but others notice. So, I took a photo today and put it side by side with a before VSG pic and it is insane to see the face behind the extra lbs. How are you all doing? #wecandoit

Wow, those are amazing results for such a short period of time. You look amazing! You were beautiful before, but the weight-loss agrees with you. You look even better.

  11. Just praying nothing goes wrong somewhere down the line that makes me sorry I did it. I'm still in 100 percent just second guessing myself, will it work? Can I do this? Surgery Nov. 17. Anyone else worried???

I have my surgery on Nov. 17 as well. I had my egd today. I am sure it won’t be as awesome as the egd. I haven’t been this relaxed in a long time.

I can’t say that I am worried about the surgery, but mainly, that is because I have had a number of weird one-time accidents and medical oddities, so this isn’t even close to my most complicated surgery. Plus, I have had a lot of surgery. I remember being wheeled away from my parents at five to have my tonsils out. I was shy back then and just stayed quiet as I counted backward for the anesthesiologist. I was out quick. I coughed up some hot blood in the bathroom the next day, and at five, I didn’t understand that coughing your guts up was an expression. I thought I had literally coughed my up my guts and was going to die. Of course, the adults thought this was hilarious, and I wasn’t scared of medical procedures after that.

I have been lucky to have had some great surgeons. However, I am a little worried about the recovery and hope I can sleep through most of the first week. Just be sure to follow instructions to the tee, and talk to your doc about any concerns. It is normal to be nervous about surgery. I am just a weirdo not to be.

    You’ll do great!
