Congrats hope4momof4 big step to the positive for your life! Glad to hear you are home and recovering. Major change for your body, take it easy thru the weekend and let it adjust. When the amount of gas goes down and you feel less groggy that's a good sign and you can think about increasing activity from there. A few days in the scheme of life is not a big deal. Lots of Water, chicken bouillon was key for me, I just kept going with the anti-nausea meds and tried to back down on the pain pills if I wasn't feeling strong pain (I didn't). Really want easy fluids for your stomach to settle down and get used to the new smaller you! Congrats again!

Good morning. I’m feeling very sluggish this morning. I’m quite tired. I slept in like three hour intervals last night. I’d need to get up, use the bathroom, drink some fluid— either Protein Water, plain water, chicken Bone Broth, or a sugar free pop, and then go bed. The pain is minimal now and I wasn’t in much pain yesterday either. The nurses did give me an extra pain pill called percaset which really got me through yesterday. Today I still have my anti nausea patch on and I did take a lower dose Generic Emend for the nausea also. I also took librax for the cramping and an acid reflux med which I have to take for two weeks. All in all not as bad as I thought it would be. I’m just happy to have finally done it and gotten this part over with. I’m going to mainly sleep through the day. Looking forward to tomorrow as everyone has written that the 3rd day is when you start feeling much better.
On a side note, yesterday I actually came home and did laundry. Doctor said I needed to try to move around (and Tex was right it helps with the gas) so I figured I might had well use My up time wisely. Still feeling weak today so maybe laundry will have to wait.
Many thanks for the well wishes and encouragement!!💝💝

    Hello my wonderful ESG family,
I am done with my procedure. It went smoothly. It was only a one hour- 90 minute procedure. Went under at 7:30AM and woke up in recovery at around 10:30AM. Thank you so much for all of your prayers, well wishes, and encouragement. I love you all and will post when I am not so groggy.

Great advice my dear. Helped me get through today. I hope you’re right and my late mother is looking down on me and protecting me. I’m going in tomorrow morning. My check in is at 6:30 AM. I’m hoping to be home by afternoon God willing. Of course I will post as soon as I am able to. Thank you all for the prayers, love, and kindness you’ve shown me throughout this process. I’ll see you all on the other side. 💝🤞🏻💝🤞🏻

    Hi ESG Community,
Where did everyone go? Please continue sharing your experiences after having the endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. Are you still losing weight? Are there any great tips you've learned along the way? Do you still feel that the non-surgical procedure was the way to go?
There's not much info on what happens as time progresses. Anything that you can share will be helpful to those of who are traveling the road behind you.

    Nearly time my friend!
Dont worry if your pre op hasn't been perfect, it won't change a thing. Just that clear liquid phase is essential to stick to. The excitement will take over by then and I found it easy to stick to the clear fluids..
if the nerves kick in during the days, hours and minutes before your procedure just close your eyes, slow your breathing and think of the first things you want to do when you are skinny mini. Think about how nice it with feel to be fit and healthy, enjoying the sunshine and really living life to the max.
worry won't change anything for the better so just know you are in great hands with a precious guardian angle seeing you through this.
you got this, ten times over. Absolutely got it. Imagine where you weight will be in a months time - now that's exciting,
lots of love to you and I will be thinking of you and eagerly awaiting your updates xoxo

Biggest challenge was just getting over the fear of surgery due to wanting to be there for my family. People here have been amazingly supportive and helped me jump that one. The next challenge thus far is just keeping that hydration up all day long! I feel really good (crazy!) 5 days out. I'm exhausted but can still walk around and "be a Mom". My DH has fully taken over laundry and other strenuous housekeeping tasks. I am irritable [emoji23] I am more quick to be annoyed by too much sound and such. I'm sure that will pass. [emoji23].

My dietian and also my trainer likened my weight loss journey thus far like this:
Before the surgery, you are trying to dig a big hole....with a spoon. You are amazingly focused and diligent but sometimes when you look up and see how long it takes with such effort, you just want to throw your spoon at the neighbors' home. The neighbors have huge shovels since birth and are very proud of them. Your humble spoon works but takes great diligence and time.
After surgery, (and I already can tell the difference with the feeling in my stomach and am adjust my mentality also), you have a new tool! It is an awesome big shovel! Now instead of spoonfuls for the effort you are shoveling great big chunks! You still have to be diligent and put in the effort; this new tool is so much more joyous and less frustrating to use than then one we have had our whole lives. Heck, no wonder some people enjoy digging!

Other changes: mostly mental for me. If I was willing to go to these lengths, then I am worth continuing that journey. So glad to share our journeys!

That’s great to hear, LivingLife100. I’m glad we can go through journey together. I’m only one week behind you. What did you find was your biggest challenge? What makes you say this is a great tool? How are you feeling 5 days out? Do you notice any other change besides a decrease in hunger and appetite? I would definitely appreciate any information you could share. I have excellent “veteran” ESGers on this forum who have provided me with invaluable info about the procedure but I am always looking for more experiences especially since yours was so very recent. Thank you and I hope we can reach our goal together.

Thanks so much Tex! I just breathed a sigh of relief. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who struggled with this. Whew! I’m looking forward to this now.
Btw, my children think I’m getting an endoscopic test done. My husband will be the only one who knows and so did my late mother of course. So you’re right that becoming healthy will be a great example to set for them. Although my 4 boys are and were all wrestlers so their fitness and activity level is already up there. I feel like the odd man out in my household so to speak. It would be great to just participate more actively with them. I have written about this with Mel and being more active in addition to getting the weight off is the main goal. Thanks again Tex!

hope4momof4, I had the same challenge with the pre-op liquid diet. I was still feeling my pm cravings, for me the worst hours were from 4-8 pm, seemed like I couldn't stop munching. I just don't have this physical or mental desire now post ESG, the procedure really helped my hormones in addition to reducing my stomach volume. I only did the Sunday and Monday on liquid only diet and my procedure was Tues AM. No impact to my procedure, last 2 days are what count. All turned out fine.
Your anti-nausea meds are the same as what I took. Your in our thoughts and prayers, your doctor sounds great very reassuring. You're going to make a real difference in your life and the life of your family next week! We're with you all the way!

It's all about your health my dear. You only get one life to live and someone being selfish enough to stop you from making a better choice for your own standard of living is not someone you should want in your corner. May 8th is a very lucky day, that was when I had mine last year. Good luck on your journey and remember this is about you.

The question is what do you want. This does not sound like love. My husband doesn’t want me to have this either- he has many reasons. He has been tremendously supportive though because it is my body and my life. If your husband says he will leave, let him leave. This might be emotionally hard for you at first, but take care of yourself. This is your life and you only get one. You are not ugly-Love yourself and be positive. Life is so short and I know you know this. There can be complications with this surgery, but chances are small. If you follow doctors orders, you will do great. Sounds like you don’t feel so well now- your body is becoming a complication now so take care of yourself, please love yourself, and if you want this you can have this. You are worth it. I am due to have my surgery February 7th and hope you will join all of us on May 8th with your journey. Good luck!

As a nurse I am familiar with the old enabling trap. We are quick to worry about other people’s needs, loosing ourselves in the process. Sounds like he has issues but remember they are his issues not yours. If you feel like it is right for you, go get the surgery. It doesn’t sound like he is supportive of your needs anyway—-no loss.

I'm a husband and yikes, this is not a good situation. I don't think I saw anywhere how long you've been married, so that may play a factor in it. But certainly, it's all about control.
I got married the first time when I was 23 and over the first couple of years I didn't realize just how co-dependent my wife had become. She'd gone from living with her mother to living with me. When she was with her mother, her mother made all the decisions, so when she was with me she deferred to me a lot. At first I was flattered, thinking she trusted me that much as to let me make all of the important decisions. I'll admit it made me feel powerful knowing that almost whatever I said was how things would be.
It took a lot of self-introspection to realize how unhealthy that was and we ended up divorcing over other issues soon afterward. But my point is that I could see how such power can go to a husband's head. It was to the point where my ex would not make any decisions, even about things like her own hair and clothes without checking with me first, and quite frankly it was intoxicating and can certainly be addicting.
On the bright side, once I was ready to start dating again I made a list of qualities I wanted in a woman and qualities I wanted to avoid. The most important qualities were independence and the ability to handle everything on her own if necessary instead of relying on me for anything. The first woman I met matched my list almost perfectly, with the one difference being our outlooks on religion, and we've been married almost 23 years now with two great kids. I told her up front about the whole controlling/co-dependency issues I had in the past and she promised she'd never let that become an issue with us.
So please don't get the idea I'm trying to excuse any of your husband's behavior, I'm just giving one possible reason for it. I hope things work out for you.

You only have 1 life and you need to live it to the best of your ability. I realized this at the age of 50 and from that day on I didn't care what people thought or how my decisions made them feel, this is the only life I have and I am going to live it for me. I am not going to live it for others any more. Life is too short, be happy and healthy.

Melesg, great to hear from you, really like the motivating thoughts you shared! Hope all is going well for you. Similar experience for me, the initial sedation had me fairly weak and I can't recall much from the initial discussion with the anesthetist. Since November procedure I'm the ultimate cheap drunk! Take care!

Hope4momof4, hey, no cold feet for you! You've got this and are 3 days away from beginning the phase of your life where you are in control of your weight and don't feel the "desire" to snack or "crave" for sweets. ESG and the right mindset have done this for me, down 36 pounds since November. I have 10 more pounds to go to reach my half-way target on weight loss. I have not been down to my current weight since my early 40's and I feel younger than this. Think going down in clothes one size and then they are still loose, sound good?
My procedure went smoothly, did not have a sore throat from the endoscope, did not have nausea afterwards (thanks to the meds provided, just take them and relax). I slept a lot the day of my procedure and was up and around the day after. You know the diet, you have prepared with foods and all the tips we can provide, there's nothing more for you to do than stay strong and keep the courage of your convictions, it will turn out fine.
Don't forget the positive impact you becoming more healthy will have on your family. My wife has lost 20 pounds as we try to live a more healthy lifestyle together now. One of our teen daughters has also lost 10 pounds since the holidays, parents are role models for their kids and our actions truly matter. Keep in touch, we'll keep you strong!
