    Reason for missing work??

Never even hinted that anyone here was hiding it because of the stigma. I just am very aware that there is one, and know that with the rapid weight loss people will think that there are other things causing the weight loss. I'd rather be honest than get caught up later. Also, there should be no stigma. Bariatric surgery is just a tool... not a fix all and certainly not an easy way out. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    How long were you out

My surgery is going to be scheduled near Christmas so I'm combining some vacation with my sick leave. I am worried about nausea more than the incision pain. I've had 2 surgeries with similar cuts and went to work the next day with little to no pain and my surgeon said if I was ok with those, I'll just need to handle the nausea since the outer pain/soreness will be similar. I'm lucky because I can telecommute if needed rather than going into the office. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Is Actigall Necessary?

I never thought about this! Now I'm glad I got mine out a couple years ago. Lol. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Getting nervous

My surgery is in December and I'm trying to work around finals and end of year stuff at work. Gah! I totally get what you are saying and I'll be in the same boat in a month and a half. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. I was going to ask that as well. Mine is laparoscopic and although there is a couple more incisions, my surgeon said it won't be much worse than the gall bladder and appendectomy surgeries I've had. Other than the nausea. With both of those surgeries I was at work the next day with little/no pain. To be fair, I sit at a desk so no danger. Probably more chance for me to do something stupid at home than here!
  6. I am so sorry to hear about your pain! Was it the stomach or the incisions? Have you thought about some of the protein powders? They have tasteless ones that you can add to water etc. I am keeping those options open for after my surgery in December. I hope things start going smoother for you! It will all be worth it!!!

    Reason for missing work??

I even tell strangers. I really dislike the stigma and find that explaining it to people increases acceptance. Everybody at work knows but we are a close knit group anyway.

    Just starting.

My insurance had no appointment requirements. Just a BMI requirement and other conditions (high cholesterol, blood pressure, A1C etc). I have not had my surgery yet but it has gone like this: July 11th : Bariatric Seminar Beginning of August: Surgical consultation appointment with Dr. Joseph who will be performing my surgery. HE had appointments for me that HE required. Somehow the referrals got lost (later found the phone number for me had a typo!!) so the only Appointment I got by the end of August was the psychologist. Psychological approval beginning of September. First nutritionist appointment mid-September. Appointment for gastroenterologist consult and to schedule EGD: Mid October. Second and final nutritionist appointment: October 18. EGD done last Friday the 20th of October. Cardiologist appointment on November 1st. Travel out of town for pulmonologist since the one here in Tallahassee is scheduling for March! Appointment November 3. As soon as those last two are done, my surgeon's office will schedule me for December. Most likely the week of the 20th. Relatively quick I guess after reading here. I think it's really different insurance to insurance.
