    Worried about my wife

Oh wow. I've followed this post now for awhile, resisting the urge, trying to give you the benefit of the doubt. I even reported a post that I felt was degrading to you. BUT, this is where I draw the line. Why are you on a BARIATRIC FORUM for patients who gather together who've had BARIATRIC SURGERY, if this is how you feel? I don't think you are going to find the "support" you are looking for, and in the meantime, are vastly offending people left and right. You can't just say that because your wife only had 50lbs to lose, that WLS was a bad idea. Perhaps she's yo-yo'd her whole life with weight, perhaps she's never successfully lost weight, perhaps she has a binge eating, or other eating disorder. Many people have struggles that prevent them from losing or successfully keeping weight off. This surgery is meant to be the last option for people who've exhausted all options. And, you do realize a vast majority of people who have surgery aren't 4-500lbs...... in fact, many are in your wife's category. I can name plenty of users by name that fell in this weight range. We don't come onto this site to give and get advice from closed minded people like you, who, think this is bullsh*t. At this point, please take your concerns and go elsewhere. You could have gotten a wealth of knowledge from this community, but you've just proved that you don't take us seriously anyway. You don't agree with our decisions to have surgery, and don't see it as a "necessity". Therefore, why continue to engage us?

    Unexpected Changed Post Sx

Lots of weird food aversions early on. Most of them went away completely. I pretty much have the same likes and dislikes. I just don't like things being too sweet now.

    Crazy, I Know!

Ok, I don't remember ever giving a sh*t as much as I do now, so maybe this is the reason. But I look at myself in a full length mirror, and I just see this hanging skin (which if you don't know its skin, it looks like fat) north of my crotch region. So I have a nice small waste until you hit my hips... and BAM....I have front butt-- almost a tire, hips, and then... sadly, no butt (never have had one). SIDE NOTE: Like I said, I never cared before, I hated that I was overweight because it limited my activities, clothing was hard to find, ect. But I never was like, "I want to be skinny to be beautiful." However, now I realize, I am MUCH more attractive thinner than heavy. Looking back, everyone always said, "you have a beautiful face", yeah, uh huh... .

    Cranberry juice

100% juice (no added sugar) was allowed on my clear liquid and full liquid stages. I diluted it because it was still too sweet. But they served it in the hospital as one of my options.
  7. It’s my understanding that the hair loss comes during the next natural shedding cycle. Everyone sheds at the end of the “telogen” phase, which is approximately every 3-4 months. It depends on when your surgery is with correlation to your next telogen phase, as to when you will experience hair loss

    Partner’s weight

I know, I feel terrible. I have reassured him and reminded him of those things. When I went to my girlfriends about it for advice, they said even they feel that way when eating around me. I think time will change this, I hope. If not, I think my next step is to get advice from the doctor.
  9. This is DEF a real thing. My doctor actually prescribes Vyvanse (adult ADHD medication) for eating addictions and people with binge eating problems.

    Seafood

I ate salmon at about 4 weeks post op, shrimp at 8 weeks, and other fish closer to 10 weeks. I wouldn't say any seafood is off limits for me now, depending on the preparation. I'd just recommend be patient and all those things can be integrated back in a couple months. It can take up to 3 months for your stomach to fully heal. I'd recommend treating it like a new born baby.

    Drains

Mine was also higher. Under my right breast. It was awful. I only had to have mine in for about 4 days though. I can't really speak to how/where it was inserted and complications, but I feel your pain!

HELP!!! What's Tea with this coping mechanism bs

I cope by cleaning and organizing. My house has NEVER EVER been THIS clean EVER. I've never been a big gym person, but I don't mind getting elbow deep in my bathtub with some scrubbing bubbles. And I feel like I bust a sweat the same way as I do at the gym LOL.

    Partner’s weight

My husband is fairly skinny. He eats better now as a result of me cooking and shopping better, but still indulges in his junk food. Even though he doesn't need to lose weight, he's commented about how he hates to eat in front of me because it makes him feel like a "pig" (his words not mine). I've found that he doesn't get up for seconds at dinner time, rather he warms up those seconds after I go to bed. It's like he is ashamed or something. I've tried to reassure him, but I know it will take time for him to adjust, just like it has taken time for me.
  14. I can feel your frustration. It took almost 90ish pounds for my coworkers to start commenting. Now, my clients have really started to notice, but again 125lbs down now...

Would I be able to lose weight?

I had the same fears. Obviously the restriction is a great tool, but I feared I wouldn't have a great success with WLS. But ultimately, I decided that this was my final option to try. I knew it would be a life long commitment and I was ready. I do believe you get as much out of this as you put in.

    Post op appointments

1 week, 1 month, 3 months (blood work), 6 months, 9 months (blood work), and 12 months. After that it is yearly from there.

    Diet without surgery?

I agree with this statement. I think WLS should be the last alternative after you've exhausted your other options. And my program required a very detailed history of every diet, drug, supplementation you've ever tried prior to the consultation spanning back 10 years. However, its the best decision I've ever done and wished I would have done it years ago. I yo-yo'd for nearly 15 years but I was still always overweight. I feel like I lost that time.

    Hard lump under incision

I have the same thing. it reminds me of when you have a piercing and there is a hard bump as well. I think it's built up scar tissue. You might not be far enough out though for us to be talking about the same thing. Either way, I'd say its probably internal sutures and/or inflammation. I wouldn't put too much worry or pressure on those spots though.

    Problems with gas

My gas is bad in the evenings because I hold it all day. There is a buildup and I notice relief when I am able to freely expel it. My point is that its not uncontrollable.

    Menstrual Cycle

Any stress or trauma to the body can cause changes in your cycle. It might be a blessing to not have to deal with it until you are feeling better. Be prepared that the intensity may be higher and it could be longer than normal. This only happened for the first 2 periods after surgery. Now mine are normal.

    Garbanzo Beans

This website has some great seasoning ideas! https://www.thisgrandmaisfun.com/roasted-chickpeas-recipe/ But it seems like different recipes roast them differently. I personally just rinse them off, let them air dry for a few minutes, put them on a parchment paper, use spray olive oil to coat, season them, and shake the pan every 10 minutes while in the oven. I usually bake them at 400 degrees for approx. an hour. You will find if you like them crispier or not. Greek "No Pasta" Salad Dressing- 2 tbsp. lemon juice 2 tbsp. red wine vinegar 1/4 cup of olive oil 1/4 tsp oregano 1/4 tsp Greek Seasoning (I bought this from Walmart) Veggies- Cherry Tomatoes (halved or 4ths) Sliced Kalamata olives Chic peas Cucumber Edamame Red Onion Feta Cheese

    Garbanzo Beans

I make a really nice "Greek No Pasta Salad" with chic peas all the time. They are super filling and I do feel like it keeps me regular. I also put them in salads, and I roast them in different flavors for a crunchy snack.

    99.2 low grade temp.

I ran a low grade fever for nearly a week after surgery. I just assume it was my body’s reaction to the surgery and trying to heal. Just stay hydrated. You can take a cool shower, ice packs on the back of your neck, chew on ice.
  25. I do believe that the 2-5oz is for meals. For me it included protein shakes, Kiefer, bone broth, jello, ect. I set a timer though for my fluids until it became a habit. Fluids would include water, caffeine free tea, crystal light, ect. I sipped my drink every 3-5mins. I suppose you could drink 2-5oz every 15 mins if you wanted. I found it easier to sip more frequently.
