Ready to crunch... but WHAT?
TakingABreak replied to istytehcrawk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started with raw veggies like carrots, skinned cucumbers, broccoli, ect. I would stay away from uncooked celery for now. But almonds might be a good thing to try. I am not a nut person, but I could see that being satisfying . I also ate skinned apple slices and that was GREAT. I loved feeling like I was chewing something. But for me, I have to skin everything. Otherwise the skin ends up in a wad left over after I've chewed everything else to liquid. I can no longer eat grapes for this reason. As far as crunch goes, I thought I'd want something more but turns out I couldn't find much that was healthy. -
I can’t go to bed at night without having my 1 cup of FairLife (skim version) and 1 tbsp of sugar free Hershey’s chocolate syrup. All served over ice of course! I sip on it for at least 30 mins and savor every bit! FairLife Milk has 80 calories, 0 fat, 6 carbs, 13 grams of protein per cup.

Oh I must have mixed you up with someone else. I did see you posted about the thickening stuff. I will say that the purred stage sucked for me. I bought a fancy NutriBullet and I have a Vitamix. Neither one was helpful when it came to liquefying things that actually tasted or looked good. My suggestion, go out onto Vitamix's website and they have several REALLY good soup recipes. They are all completely smooth and you can mix it up with any blender (with tweaks here and there). The butternut squash is my favorite! I used bone broth for added protein. I lived on soup and protein shakes. It was pretty much like an extra week of full liquids. I did buy GenePro unflavored protein powder. It has the BEST bang for your buck when it comes to protein. It also requires very little powder per serving, which is helpful when mixing with soup and what not. But I mixed that with refried beans and mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes (not every meal, but yes I did eat them). -
Protein powder mixed with non-fat milk
TakingABreak replied to VSGDB2018's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you Pre Op or Post Op. Here's my answer for both: Pre Op- Especially in the Pre Op diet, milk of any kind adds too many carbs in my opinion. My doctor told me that the point of the Pre Op diet is to shrink your liver and to do this, you need to go into Ketosis. Ketosis is best achieved at less than 20 carbs per day. There is approximately 12 carbs in a cup of skim milk. I mixed all my protein shakes with water and PB2 powder in my pre op stages. I lost 27lbs in 2 weeks. It worked for me! Post Op- I use FairLife Milk. It has 13 grams of protein per 1 cup serving. You consume so little Post Op that a little extra calories here and there won't make a difference. However, you want to get the biggest bang for your buck with protein. That's why FairLife Milk is the best option for mixing with protein supplements. -

Thanks MattyMatt! I stopped using protein supplements (unless I let my local Smoothie King make me one ) but FairLife is good to mix with those and with soups that require milk or water. Wherever you can get that added protein. How is your purred diet going so far? Is this day 2? -
When do you bite the bullet....

I have a plan as well. I'm going to buy swing dresses that I can dress up with a blazer & heels or down on the weekends with some flip flops. I found one that comes in 35 colors and patterns on Amazon for $23.99. Someone I know told me that she wore dresses and got away with the sizing difficulty easier than by wearing pants. Good luck to you! Congrats on swimming in your clothes! Its such a great testament to how well you are doing! -

I love FairLife Milk. It beats the heck out of regular milk in the comparison. I will say that I was a big straight milk drinker prior to WLS, and FairLife is good mixed with other things, but I'm not a fan to drink it straight. -

I agree 100% about clothes being too tight before. I have some items that seem to actually “fit” and I think to myself, WOW! How did I wear this 65lbs heavier! -
Crap I Eat In a Day - Week 4 (Piccys! All bare! All nekkidy! All Day!)
TakingABreak replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yours looks better than mine! My lunch is 3 days worth of left over veggies and shredded chicken breast with a 1 tbsp of gravy. The chicken is 2 days old so I needed something to perk it up. And I’ll only eat half of this. -
Onederland Celebration....Me and my bestie flying on trampolines...with Pix!

I love this! I found with my weight loss comes a sense of adventure. I did a Aqua Zumba class this week and loved it. I'm going to call our local trampoline park and see if they do fitness classes! Thanks for the idea -
This is for the full 6 as well, you said you could only eat approximately 3? Not to shabby if you cut these values in half.

Daily Nutritional Percentage Goals
TakingABreak replied to msgabrii's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I started eating meats in my "soft foods" stage, which was week 4 or 5 (week 5 if you are sleeve). Now, I will say that I only ate VERY tender meat with some type of sauce or gravy. I ate rotisserie chicken and lean ground beef. I eat cheese a lot now. Some people might think that cheese has too much fat, but my NUT believes in a healthy regimen of fat in your diet. I take the KETO approach when eating mostly. -
After I had my surgery all I could think was regret that I didn't do this sooner. I could have done it years ago. I'm positive you won't regret having this surgery during anytime in your life. Good luck and congrats on your decision!

What you said was there was "no such thing as a stall at 2 months post-op". Which you cannot say. She could have stalled at 2 months post op. Your intentions are right, but to diminish her feelings that she is going through a stall isn't right.

I had this bad dream the other night where I was at a BBQ and I popped open a can of regular soda and just started drinking. When I realized what I had done, panic set in. Great job on the catch!
-
I also weigh daily. I think it holds me accountable and if you "stall" for a few days then you know right away to change something (whether that be food or increase exercise). I log my food every day also. I use MyFitnessPal and it helps as well.

First of all, What surgery did you have? What does a typical day of eating look like for you? Calories, carbs, protein, water intake? How much exercise do you get weekly? Minutes, type of exercise? Do you eat and drink at the same time? Do you graze? To find the root of your stall, we need more information to help you. Please give us more insight into what your day looks like.
-
Ummm. I don't think you can actually say that. There is no such thing as a general guideline for stalls. Just saying.

I'm sorry you are going through this with your husband. I know I'm 8 weeks post op and I've already noticed a change in my closest relationships. My husband, while nothing like what you are going through, hasn't complimented me once. In fact, he hasn't said ONE word about my progress unless prompted by me. What does that mean? I don't know, but it hurts my feelings. However, he has been supportive by going to the gym with me ect. Maybe I'm overly sensitive. However, my best friend, has changed 100%. We used to talk on a daily basis. We used to make plans at least once per week. Now, I haven't seen her in going on 3 weeks. Haven't talked to her on the phone in longer. I'm not sure what's going on with her, but something has changed and I just so happed to have surgery. She is overweight and when I got home from the hospital she decided to try some fad diet. It was all she talked about for weeks and weeks. Then overnight completely failed. After she failed, things changed. My point is not to make this about me, but to say that people change after WLS. Friends, family, spouses. It was something I was warned about in my psych evaluation. I hope you and your husband make amends, if that's what you want. We are with you in this journey. Xo

OMG .... aaah! Finally had a full crapola!
TakingABreak replied to Mattymatt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
did you weigh yourself afterwards? I remember my first one after surgery. I literally lost 4lbs! I didn't think it was possible to "go" that much. -
Careful with gum! It can cause extra painful gas (increased air from chewing) in our small pouches!

Water Logged is an app that is helpful! -
Its like when I'm on the Elliptical a the gym and a Mc Donald's commercial comes on TV. I'm like... REALLY? Really!?! But then I remember that Mc Donald's is what got me there in the first place. And then I work harder. Bring on those fast food commercials!

Eating crispy bread at day 7
TakingABreak replied to mabubbles's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My plan has liquid for a total of 2 weeks after surgery. There is a reason for this. You can do serious harm to your body, no matter how much you chew that bread. My recommendation is talk to your surgeon, NUT, and get into a therapist. Now is the time that fear alone should be discouraging you from making these choices. You could get serious complications and you are still eating bread. What happens at 6 weeks when you can easily eat bread? Get on board with a plan and get help as to why you are eating food like this.
