  1. I see a psychiatrist weekly, he could not do the evaluation according to the staff where I will be having my surgery.
I did the five hour evaluation and consult, I was told I was good to go. As I'm leaving I was told by the way your doctor will need a letter from your psychiatrist stating you are mentally stable..... If that was all they needed why did I waste my time?

My case manager from the surgeons office told me that the Doctor makes the decision. The surgeon will have you do counseling if there’s any issues with the evaluation. The Psychiatrist takes the notes and sends them to the surgeon.
I have my own psychiatrist that manages my meds and I was told to get clearance from him too! I think, it’s a hoop to jump through for insurance. I guess they can also tell if you have eating disorders, as well...

  2. Mine was like that too, he interrogated me about what I ate like as a child (like I remember) and then interrogated me about what I eat like now and that was it... I'm like welp that was a stupid $100 copay!!

Yeah it’s weird! I’ve only done my consult, still waiting for the actual evaluation [emoji848]

  3. I had my psych evaluation consult this morning. He told me that he doesn’t make the decision if I’m capable of having the surgery or not. Has anyone else heard this? From my understanding of what he said, he just gathers the information for the surgeon to decide if I’m ok to have surgery! I’m confused

  4. I smoked until mid July then I quit for a few weeks did my labs and started again. I got the gum it kinda helped but not that good lol.. I cut back when I completed all my pre-op requirements to 3 or 4 a day. Once I got my date I've stopped completely. It's not that easy and it's only been 5 days. Surgery 10/26 that's Thursday. I'm hoping to stay smoke free after!! Good luck everyone!!!

Did the do a blood test or urine test

  5. What I did was smoke the same cigarette a few times. I'd take a few drags put it out. Do something else to occupy my mind and when an urge came I'd light it again. I got down to 5 ciggs quick that way then went to 3 then 1 and when I smoked that 1 the last day... Following day was zero and a lot of mint gum to replace the menthol lol..
Be sure you've mastered quitting at least 5-7 days before surgery. They're known to re-test for nicotine and also carbon monoxide using a breath test! You've come this far you definitely don't want to be sent home.

Thank you, and you’re absolutely correct. I have come this far...

  6. I smoked till the day before. Not a lot but like two or three a day from a pack a day. I will say everything went fine. My husband also smokes, I’m getting better at being around it. My dr told me they will test me for Nicotine! I just want my health back and so I have to do this, ugh! Congratulations for quitting
