  1. Its so strange... MattyMatt, I hope in time my tastes will come back like before. I cant tolerate anything sweet right now... yuck.. I kinda wish I knew some of weird these things were going to happen before I was sleeved..LOL

There's no way to really predict how things will change. For example, I never thought that eating would become mechanical and unpleasant. Whereas I used to live to eat, it's a chore now.

    Calories/Protein

    3 Tablespoons rolled oats (oatmeal) 60c/ 3g

    1 Tablespoon Pea Protein 30c/6g

1 Tablespoon Brown Rice Protein 25c/5g

    1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Splenda or other no calorie sweetener to taste

    1 Tablespoon cocoa powder 10c/0g

    1 Large Egg White 17c/4g

1/4 cup unsweetened Almond Milk 10c/0g

    Total 152 Calories/ 18g Protein

Put ingredients in blender/food processor/nutribullet blend until smooth

Spray a coffee mug with cooking spray, add batter

Nuke for 55 seconds on high

You will end up with a muffin sized piece of chocolate cake that is absolutely delicious, moist, and super high in protein.

You can add extra goodness if you want....peanut butter powder, a few chocolate chips or coco nibs, strawberries on top, chocolate Syrup

This is guaranteed to hit the spot for a bad carb craving (without the spikes and rebound hunger)

    Excellent protein for your calories!

All plant Proteins (cept the egg white)

Excellent dietary Fiber (peas and oats)

    Really good eats....that feels super naughty....but isn't:)

Amazing .... it's less calories and more protein than a Premiere Protein Shake.

from the research i've done, you basically have a "genetic reaction" to the surgery. in other words, don't beat yourself up or OBSESS (a big problem around here) about whether you lose 65% or 75% or 85% of your excess weight. the initial loss is virtually all out of your hands.

it's the long-term years afterwards that your behavior and healthy habits will determine if you keep it off. that's what you control. that's what you should focus on.

just try to be at peace with wherever you land after a year or so. it's nothing you did wrong (or right, tbh). it just is what it is. and it will be 1,000x better than where you were pre-surgery!

Now those are some words to live by, man! Great post!

I think I am going to take 3 weeks, and return earlier if I feel up to it. I have a desk job in theory, but do a lot of bustling around. However my biggest hesitation is my commute. I am in the car around 2 hours each way. Doesn't sound insanely comfortable right after surgery. I will be using STD coupled with PTO to get 100% pay. So 48 hours of PTO + my 60% STD benefits.

2 hours is an insane commute, surgery notwithstanding. How do you manage!?

Its the one thing, the very one thing that makes me sad. I think as time passes, I'll forget about how yummy diet soda is.

Actually, diet soda is disgusting if you think long and hard about it. It doesn't even really taste that great - we just grow accustomed to it.

How king until you felt better without it? I would love to kick my Starbucks habit but it’s been years. I don’t miss diet soda at all but I do miss seltzer Water - more than anything else !!

Hmmm ... I'm not sure I really realized it until one day it occured to me that I did not have any caffeine in a long time.

  9. I’ve been dreading this day since a month ago when I scheduled and all my nerves were for nothing! My doctor is great. I was struggling to decide between VSG and bypass and he answered all of my questions and concerns and my dietician is sweet as pie and lost 200lbs herself with the band. I decided on VSG and he put me on Adipex for three months and then I will switch to another medication for the other three months of my pre op diet. I am currently 475 and I need to be 400 to schedule and 375 on day of surgery. He is very confident that I can achieve this. I am SO excited.

I'm wishing you all of the best!

I’m 4weeks out and had dumping last night- worse thing ever! I was talking w my family and eating way to fast I think. Any way took me 1hr to actually throw up anything- and that was by making myself do it. It was like my gag reflex was gone. Lesson for me!

Dumping syndrome is actually a little different. Without being too graphical, it comes out the other end ....

  11. The more horror stories I read here, the more I'm beginning to regret getting RNY a couple of weeks ago. All I seem to read is how people throw up constantly, start dumping and have a myriad of health complications. I'm just hoping that that vast majority of people who live happy and healthy lives after RNY just aren't posting as much.
I've been very fortunate to not have had any complications so far. I'm still on the liquid stage but I really have not had problems downing liquids all day (as long as I remember to bring them with me). I'm praying that when I can start eating food, they go down without a fight. Does vomiting feel the same with gastric bypass as it did prior? I hate throwing up!

Eh, some folks struggled. I was one of those. The good news is that I'm 5 weeks post op and the journey is much smoother now.
