Hey, everyone! I had my surgery on 3/19 and things have been going reasonably well for me— no throwing up, bad reactions or the like. I’ve been walking my dog increasingly and I’m at about 2 miles with him. That brings me to today, it’s a beautiful 85 degree day in Virginia and I’m camping with friends. We decided (more like they decided) that a 2-mile hike would be fun so off we went. By the time we got back to the site I was dizzy, no Water was going down and I was extremely nauseous. Now I’m sitting in the car cooling off but I still can’t seem to get any fluids down (I’ve tried warm Water, cold water, Gatorade) and everything makes me nauseous. What can I do? Any advice is appreciated!

The heat has dragged me down too. It's too much, too soon for the body. 30-something degree temperature swings are difficult to adjust to. To top it off, tomorrow is supposed to be a high of only 50.

I am breaking down and buying a 3qt Instant Pot. This is a big thing for me. In the last year, I bought an expensive 7 inch frying pan and a little spatula for it. Also bought a knife. So this is a big step

What is your favorite source for Instant Pot type recipes for post -op surgery?

I saw this and thought of weed. Actually, I really wish I could get a hit right now and just drift away.

Since surgery on Tuesday I’ve been having these weird things I can only describe as a cross between a hiccup and a burp. I get them a few times each hour, but not in a row like hiccups. And I’m not releasing any gas with them like you would a burp. All I know is that they’re very uncomfortable and I’d love to hear if anyone else has dealt with these and any suggestions for getting rid of the suckers.

Hicburps, LOL! I had them even pre-surgery. They're more or less a side effect of getting the gall bladder removed which happened to me in 2002.

Possibly unconventional but works for me: when I'm craving something from a specific junk food place, such as McDonald's or pizza or whatever, I just go look at their menu online and look at the nutrition stats for whatever I am in the mood to order, and most of the time the combination of looking at the pic/stats is enough to get me past my craving.

Now that is one of the best ideas I've heard in a while!

  5. Every now and then I will get small hunger pangs, but for the most part, I don't really feel hungry. Unfortunately, on this beautiful, warm Philly evening I am getting some small ones badly but I've set up a hard cut off time for food. Nothing to eat after 7:00PM. Plus, I've reached my Protein goal for the day - well, a little bit above it actually. I am at 110g and the target is 100. Maybe I am just bored outta my ever-lovin' mind.

I am 8 weeks out of gastric sleeve surgery and have lost a great amount of weight, I’m happy with my progress. I just can’t believe how small my portions are. I knew of course they’d be small, but I can literally manage two bites before I feel really full. How long will it be until I can actually eat a fairly normal portion size and not look rude at meals? I don’t mean to sound stupid or ungrateful for my surgery, but once I hit my goal weight, I would like to be able to enjoy eating out and family meals like a “normal” person. At the moment, eating is not a good experience and I don’t like the feeling whilst eating or immediately after. Can anyone share their story with portion size?

Definitely enjoy this while it lasts! You shouldn't feel rude for not cleaning your plate. We have such a screwed up notion that if our plates aren't cleaned, we're somehow being disrespectful or rude. I kind of hope that I will never be able to eat normally again.

it is and can be very frustrating. trying to focus on the longer term is tough to do all the time.

i would suggest if you have not done so already. dont weigh yourself to often.

At the start it was fun to see the pounds fall away almost daily but that feedback loop works against you later as things slow down and seeing the same number drags you down emotionally.

step away from the scale and look to other things for positive feedback.

    your clothes

how you look and feel after a good workout.

how much energy you have to do things you struggled with before

anything non weight related that makes you feel good.

This ^^ ... I've fallen into the bad habit of weighing myself everyday and I've been pretty vocal against it. I want to break myself of this habit as it really isn't healthy.

I have not lost much weight yet but, I did want to chime in and say that 5 or less events per hour puts a person in the normal range. Mine is severe and I would just about pay to be under 10 per hour from where I am at now.

Still doesn't seem like you should have more than you did pre op. If you were under 5 pre op you were doing great!

Yeah, I know. I am just alarmed because before surgery I was less than 1 apnea an hour.

    Sadly, it's actually about 11%.

24 months after RNY, about one in ten people have failed to lose weight.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25591162

This is why taking behavior modification very seriously is so important.

Apparently I misunderstood the data I was being told. Thank you for correcting me because I really don't want to spread wrong information. :) That is statistically significant but still a minority.

I know this is a common topic, but I have stop losing weight. I had my surgery Dec 1st, and I was doing well with the weight loss. I lost close to 66 pounds. Then about a month ago I stopped loosing weight. I have been staying within a 3 pound range. It's frustrating and kind of heart breaking. I was steadily losing weight, then boom nothing. I feel like all the hard work i have been doing is for nothing. I am trying to stay positive. I know stalls happen. I just didn't know they would last this long.

As you get closer to goal weight, it get's harder and harder. Relative to me, you're within spitting distance of your goal weight. Just keep persevering and following your program. The stall will break eventually.

Hey Sleevers. Anyone still experiencing hoarseness of the throat??? Since my surgery on 4/3 my voice is very hoarse and breathy. How long does this last? I'm scared it may be permanent

It should clear up soon. Whether you got sleeved or bypassed, you get intubated during surgery. This is often the cause of the hoarseness. I was hoarse for about a week.

I’m three weeks post. Can’t sleep more than three hours at a time. Anybody using Tylenol PM?

I use Tylenol PM on occasion. It is not an NSAID, so it is okay to use in the short term. I am having a lot of trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. I've heard tell that this not an uncommon experience while losing weight. Your hormones and endocrinology get a little bit out of whack. I am sure it will adjust some in the coming months.

Hello! I have my first surgery consult April 24th. I have Medicare, and heard they don't deny as long as you meet the criteria. My bmi is 68, and currently I'm 472lbs and counting down from 483lbs.

    Sw/483...Cw/472

Yes, Medicare does not deny. Since I am on disability, I have Medicare and used it to cover my surgery. The document, NCD 100.1, will provide you with the specific requirements for Bariatric Surgery. These will not vary from region to region as an NCD means National Coverage Determination.
