Can I have bulletproof coffee
Mattymatt replied to Marissa37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
More often than I care to admit Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I can tell today is just going to be a tough day. I woke up nauseous and constipated and feeling a bit down. Soldiering on.

Dumping sucks the big one!

I think you should be prepared for the chance that it may happen. I wasn't prepared and I wished I had been. Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app

It probably doesn't hurt to consult your surgeon about it.

Grocery shopping- still trying to figure it out
Mattymatt replied to charismatic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am struggling with this too. Some deli meat I had bought went bad. -
Vitamins are a whole lot different than prescription medicines. Generally-speaking, they don't have the side effects and untold other horrors. I will gladly trade my chewable vitamins for the prescription meds any day and 5x on Sunday.

What are you addicted to...like really, truly, mess with your brain addicted?
Mattymatt replied to Ylime's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That's good that you're avoiding these triggers. Diet soda is a slippery slope for me as well. I am just as happy to be free of it. -
I was told somewhere in the 3-6 month time period. My surgeon said she prefers to consider the stomach healed at 6 months.

Anyone stay on shakes for meal times longer than first couple weeks?
Mattymatt replied to GansettRam74's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I still use protein shakes for breakfast because I don't really like eating when I first wake up. I also use them when I am out and about and don't want to stop for fast food. -
Weight stalled third week post op
Mattymatt replied to nyguy28's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stalls are common. You just have to ride them out. I had one that lasted a week and a half and then, all of a sudden, I started losing again. In fact just overnight I dropped 2 pounds. -
How much, how fast? WEIGHT LOSS
Mattymatt replied to baribetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@baribetty I had surgery on March 12th. So I am just about at 6 and 1/2 weeks post op. Funny but it feels like an eternity. -
Oh wow! I am very sorry .... that is an extremely uncomfortable and even frightening experience.

First Stall - less than 2 weeks after surgery???

@FluffyChix has really good advice on this matter. Hidden sugar can be everywhere which is why a consumer needs to be as educated as possible when it comes to food labels. -
How much, how fast? WEIGHT LOSS
Mattymatt replied to baribetty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My weight is dropping like a rock. I think I am averaging a little over 3/4s of a pound a day and it recently picked up and shifted into high gear. I had a stall that lasted slightly over a week and I am back on the loser's bench again. -
I am so sorry to hear this. But I have some good news for you, this situation is only temporary! The end goal of your surgery is to be healthier for your family, your child, and yourself. Remember to take it one day at a time and that getting healthy is rarely a straight line. They have a real saying in the 12 step program that I can get behind: This too shall pass. You'll get there!!

Congratulations on the first step towards the new you, Cara! All of your feelings are perfectly normal and just about everyone experiences these at some point along their journeys. I am a Type 2 Diabetic, and in just two days post-op, I was completely off all blood sugar control medicines. Gastric Bypass is the gold standard for Bariatric Surgery as it has the most research data and still has the best success rate. Basically your stomach is reduced by about 75% and you have a malabsorbtive component which helps you lose weight. It's probably one of the most "major" routine surgeries performed. My surgery was completely performed laprascopically and my surgeon told me that basically robotics do the majority of the work. A robot is going to be far more precise than the human hand at incisions. The end result is that the incisions healed up very quickly. The one recommendation I make to everyone starting out is to seek out counseling, because some people may experience worsening depression post-surgery. I experienced this, and consequently, I had a much harder time with the mental game. I had very few, if any, physical complications at all. They say anesthesia and the hormonal changes can effect each person quite a bit differently. I am still learning to eat slowly and more mindfully. If I don't do this, I end up praying to the porcelain god. I also don't like sugar anymore. If I accidently have too much, then I get an uncomfortable feeling of shakiness and rapid heart beat. I hope this helps you out some! Good luck and I think you'll find some really receptive folks on here.

When was your first BM after sleeve surgery?
Mattymatt replied to future_dahl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, it's not. It's a good question. I had RNY and it took me pretty much a full 5 days before I took a dump. -
Frustrated with surgeon's office...
Mattymatt replied to kordie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My advice to you is be a pain in the butt because this is your health, and sadly, you must be your own strong advocate. Also, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Keep after them! -
WOW! The scale is really starting to move again .... I got on the scale this morning and I was down a pound. Then, I felt the urge to have bowel movement. So, I decided to have a second go at the scale. I guess I had a full pound of sh1t, because I am down 2 pounds total from yesterday. I'm about to do the hula dance.

Desperate Confessions.....When your mind "went there" to lose weight
Mattymatt replied to Creekimp13's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Honestly, at one point I was just going to give up trying to lose weight altogether and just eat myself to death. I thought I had exhausted just about every option out there. I never even heard of anyone implanting a tape worm inside them to lose weight. It's interesting but I am sure extremely dangerous because it is a parasite that can and may kill its host. I am not going to say that any of you were messed up. It's a known fact that stress and desperation can drive living things into doing what they would not ordinarily do. These acts can be seen in animals and human beings. Obesity is the hardest problem to surmount! Anyone that says otherwise has never walked a mile in our shoes. -
The first stall has arrived. For the past week I've been fluctuating between the same 2 pounds. It makes me really appreciate others that are in a stall because it certainly isn't easy so I am going to swallow my own medicine and just persevere through it.

Starting the process- Does it become "normal"?
Mattymatt replied to EsoKev's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, recovery was smooth from a physical standpoint. However, I struggled mightily (and still struggle on occasion) with the mental game. I became really depressed post-op. I recommend to everyone beginning this journey to seek out a therapist and begin counseling. Despite being in counseling, my depression still got worse. I can only imagine what might have happened had I not had access to a therapist. -
I would rather not think about what being overweight has cost me because it is too painful. Instead, I want to think about what opportunities losing weight will provide.
