    Taste of food

I had the same thing happen to me and the surgeon said it is due to the production of ketones in the body. Once this goes away, food starts to taste again. It does get better. For the first two weeks when I was allowed to start food on puree, food tasted like saw dust even though I added spice.

    Instant Pot!

It never gave me the munchies. Just relaxed me and took away the depression. It is so much better than taking Remeron but drug testing and other issues prevent me from pot.

    Sleeping?

I think it was day 8 or 9 before I could comfortably lie flat. I don't even have a recliner so I had to grin it and bear it. Just remember that this will pass. You're going through one of the toughest stages of this journey but an end is in sight.

    Surgery on 4/11

I am very empathetic. My whole life used to revolve around food and it made the first couple of weeks very difficult for me from a mental stand point. I had a couple of days where I just broke down and cried because I did not know how else to relieve what was on my mind. I don't cry easily either but the journey is just as much emotional as well as physical. Instead of water, have you throught about something like Mio flavor drops? They're sugar-free and taste resonably good. Staying hydrated cannot be emphasized enough.

    Heat exhaustion or WHAT?!

The heat has dragged me down too. It's too much, too soon for the body. 30-something degree temperature swings are difficult to adjust to. To top it off, tomorrow is supposed to be a high of only 50.

    Instant Pot!

I saw this and thought of weed. Actually, I really wish I could get a hit right now and just drift away.

    Hiccurps...burccups?

Hicburps, LOL! I had them even pre-surgery. They're more or less a side effect of getting the gall bladder removed which happened to me in 2002.
  8. Today I am feeling down in the dumps. I can't believe how much time I've lost and wasted being obese. I got several employment rejection letters in my email and I thought that employers were really active to get people. The only companies interested in me are over the road truck driving jobs and that isn't a lifestyle conducive to good health. I have my Class A CDL and I know truck driving is rough. I am not even a really good driver but they don't seem to care - they just want another person to hold the steering wheel. What can a disabled, middle-aged man do? On the upshot, I am really holding down the soft foods well now, the nausea wave dissipated, and my incisions really look good and healed. I am just too tired to go to the gym today so tomorrow will be the day.

Let me tell you what my surgeon told me and I'm sure you know this by now...it's not a race. Please don't forget to take one day at a time. This is your time and you will succeed. We didn't gain the weight overnight, so don't push it.

To Jump or Not to Jump

Even when I was thin as a young child, I never had the coordination to jump rope. As @FluffyChix says, "White men can't jump." BAHAHAHA!
  10. I am reminded today that gaining one's health is not a linear progression. Meaning we have days and setbacks. I had my protein-rich breakfast and I am nauseous as a mofo. I didn't feel like my protein-fortified oatmeal so I had two protein-fortified, zero-sugar hot chocolates. All told 30g of protein but I am feeling super crappy. Hoping this wave will pass.

Yikes. Sorry to hear this. Hey, any chance you're developing some lactose intolerance? Are your bowels cramping with the nausea? It kinda sounds like that might be the case?

No, no cramps. Stomach is just upset. I hope I am not developing lactose intolerance.

  11. For some messed up reason I am craving a Philly Pretzel Factory soft pretzel. Maybe I am just bored because I know I am not hungry and I am well hydrated. GRRRRRRR! Must. Resist. Temptation.
  12. Now that is one of the best ideas I've heard in a while!
  13. Thanks! I'll admit to being motivated by weight loss results. I am so over being above 300 pounds. It's just killing me slowly.

    Feeling Hungry & Freaked out

Every now and then I will get small hunger pangs, but for the most part, I don't really feel hungry. Unfortunately, on this beautiful, warm Philly evening I am getting some small ones badly but I've set up a hard cut off time for food. Nothing to eat after 7:00PM. Plus, I've reached my protein goal for the day - well, a little bit above it actually. I am at 110g and the target is 100. Maybe I am just bored outta my ever-lovin' mind.
  15. It's after 7:00PM here and I've set 7:00PM as the cut off for food intake. I had a pre-surgery bad habit of eating late. I am leaving that one in the dust.
  16. Definitely enjoy this while it lasts! You shouldn't feel rude for not cleaning your plate. We have such a screwed up notion that if our plates aren't cleaned, we're somehow being disrespectful or rude. I kind of hope that I will never be able to eat normally again.

    frustrating

This ^^ ... I've fallen into the bad habit of weighing myself everyday and I've been pretty vocal against it. I want to break myself of this habit as it really isn't healthy.

    Flatulence

Typical guy here but I am proud of that flatulence!

    Flatulence

I've got so much gas that I'm a fire hazard. Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Note to self

It's okay. It's a good lesson to learn!
  21. Despite being quite a bit less in weight now, it looks like my sleep apnea has gotten worse. Last night I had an average of over 5 apneas per hour. Has this happened to anyone else?
  22. Mattymatt

From 470 to 235 (with photos)

Congratulations on the big win! You look fantastic!

    Medicare?

I am. What questions do you have?
  24. Yeah, I know. I am just alarmed because before surgery I was less than 1 apnea an hour.
