    Buddies Group - Surgery Dec 4 to 15, 2017

Officially a month out today! I'm feeling pretty good. I'm getting in about 65g of protein a day and my 64 oz of water.... I I just started nursing school too! So far so good. I notice I'm really tired around 7/8 pm but I'm not all that surprised with how little of calories we're consuming this early out. I can't wait for my 6 week appointment to add in some cooked vegetables! I'm soo ready for some variety. Hope everyone else is doing good! Hw: 352 Sw: 321.8(day of surgery) Cw: 291.0

    TMI question

I had more of a loose stool in my second week post op, but nothing uncontrollable. It didn't last long and now my movements are normal just spaced out more. Hope this helps!

Mine also was burning, it kind of went away then flared up again at about 2 weeks out, but I'm about 3 1/2 weeks out and its gone now. I switched between ice and a heating pad. Hope it goes away soon!
  6. Everyone loses at different rates! My name is Alea, nice to meet you too! It's nice to have a surgery buddy!
  7. Yep! December 11th here as well. I was 321 on the day of surgery and am currently sitting at 299.6. I'm also not freaking out about the stalls, if I get concerned I just remind myself that I've had the surgery and there's no way with eating right that I won't lose the weight. I weigh myself every Wednesday. I had a little bit of a rough start with dehydration a few days out but am feeling pretty good now [emoji4]
  8. I too am stalling. Since about the 26th to still now, I had the same with the scale going down and back up about a pound, I figure it's water weight with it just being 1 lb.. But I'll be 4 weeks on monday, and I'm only able to take in about 500-600 calories Max including my shakes. What's your daily food schedule like? I've been hitting my liquid and protein goals as well as my exercise goals so the only thing I can think of for the stall is that my calories are too low. 🤔. But my nutritionist said they don't focus on calories just to focus on getting in protein.

Haven't had anything with the tired when eating, but I am just all around more tired. For example, we got 8 inches of snow and I went out to play in it with my son and was exhausted within 15 minutes. I also experienced the dizziness when getting up for the first 2 weeks or so. Especially when getting up in the morning. Now that I'm making sure to get in at least 60 oz of water and about 50-60 grams of protein, I haven't noticed it anymore, unless I get up really quickly. When I called my surgeon's assistant to ask about the dizziness (just in case) she said that it can be a common side effect for the first few months, because as our weights drop down, our blood pressures also drop down since we're losing weight, so she recommended just taking it slow when getting up from sitting or laying down.. Also if you're not getting in enough fluids, dehydration also lowers your blood pressure and that could also affect you. Hope this helps!

HOLIDAY CHALLENGE TIME!! LET'S DO THIS!

I'm stalling too [emoji30] I've been 299 since about Christmas! I'm just a little past 3 week post op. It's very frustrating and discouraging but I keep reminding myself that there no way I won't keep losing weight. I've had surgery, it'll come with time. I've just backed off with how often I weigh myself so I don't get too upset. Best of luck to everyone!

    December Sleevers??

Make sure you're getting in that water! That'll help with the weight loss. Personally on the go stuff I like, I also have protein shakes in my car just in case, but I've made a batch of chicken salad with hard-boiled eggs in it for extra protein and at Walmart they sell 2 oz cups with lids, so I can throw one of those in a lunchbox with a cold pack. You could also have hardboiled eggs in zip locks for grab and gos. As well as if you're allowed it, lunch meat with cheese sticks are really simple protein for on the go. Unfortunately my plan doesn't allow cheese sticks until week 6 but I'm definitely planning on that for a lunch! Best of luck!

    December Sleevers??

I was sleeved on the 11th as well! I've also hit the stall. I haven't lost since about the 26th. I've been walking, no weights for me yet, I've been hitting 10,000 steps daily, which is about 5 miles a day and am getting in about 50-60grams of protein a day. I'm on 'soft protein' which is basically pureed. I have to wait until the 26th when I see my nutritionist before I can have 'normal' food....to be honest I just want cucumbers and pickles! Anything super crunchy! How often and how much are you eating?? I just started looking at calories, (not just protein)and even with my protein shake I have daily, I'm only taking in like 450 calories max. I'm eating about an ounce of dense protein 3 or 4 times a day. (like chicken or tuna) Down 30.2 lbs including my preop diet Down 21.1 lbs just from surgery (no preop included)

I was told to get them super soapy in every shower and pat them dry. Other than that just keep them dry. I have that glue over top, no bandages or tape on mine. The glues starting to peel off and they incisions look great. I'm post op day 12. Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app

    4 days out of surgery

Hey! Congrats on a successful surgery! So I was told it should take 10 minutes to drink an ounce. So depending on your glass size then calculate from there. I was given these mini cups that look like a medicine cup. But you can buy 2 ounce red cups from Walmart and then just take 20 minutes to finish one of those instead. I can't tell if I'm full with liquids unless it's a thick protein shake, but I can definitely tell if I drink to fast or too much at once. It feels like a knot going down into your chest. Hope this helps! Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi guys! Is everyone meeting their fluid goals yet?? I was sleeved on the 7th and finally made it to 54oz yesterday. But today I can start eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt and beans. And I have no clue how to make sure I'm meeting food and fluid goals! Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I was also worried about my surgeon wanting to do bypass on me rather than vsg due to my weight compared to height. I had more to lose so typically they want you to do bypass if there's a bunch to lose. But I went in and told them that I wasn't going to do bypass because I didn't want to have any issues with malabsorption and he said that's completely fine and I would do fine with the sleeve! If your surgeon refuses to do a sleeve then find a different one! Good luck! Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app

    4 days out of surgery

I move on to them tomorrow! Although I'm only 1 week post op. My doctors menu is a little different. I'll be on 'soft protein' for 5 weeks starting tomorrow. So starting with yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, beans and then moving on to tuna and chicken breast. How have you been doing with getting all your liquids in?? My doctor wants us to focus mainly on fluid so I've been slacking on protein a little. I still haven't reached my full 64 ounces. It's definitely a chore! 21. Everyone's journey is different. I've had no issues with pain. I took their pain meds for the first night, was taking down my 4 ounces an hour so I was released the next day. I then took Tylenol only 3 times over the next few days. Has it been hard to drink enough daily? Yes. But it's because I'm not feeling hungry or thirsty. I'm no longer having issues with nausea. If this is something you really want for yourself then there will be challenges but there will also be amazing changes! Best of luck no matter which path you take. Tell me about it! I'm in real bad ketosis too, I was still constantly nauseous 4 days post op even with meds, so my surgeon said that was what was happening because nausea can be a side effect of deep ketosis. But they allowed me 1 Tbsp of beans, which I mixed with bone broth and finally the nausea went away! But I still have the nasty taste in my mouth and the ketosis breath is awful! Thanks for the responses. I was definitely in contact with my surgical staff. Turns out since I had a long clear liquid diet preop and then going into the next week on it, my body went into ketosis which was causing the extra nausea even though I was taking zofran every 6 hours. They had me do 1/2 an ounce of beans which I mixed with broth and man. The nausea disappeared within the hour. I still have some but not nearly as bad. I'm also able to get in more liquids today. Hoping to hit about 26oz today rather than my 10 oz yesterday. Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone with early December dates, do you have advice for nausea?? Surgery went well and I did great in the hospital. Hit my 4oz and hour and was sent home. But I'm battling really bad nausea. I've been dry heaving and have barely got in 5 oz today since 10am. Any advice? I can't believe how much I'm struggling with water and other liquids. Yep! Nausea really does sucks. I was dry heaving in post up and terrified that I'd pop of staple in my stomach. They reassured me that they're tough and heaving won't do anything to them. But they're giving me an anti-nausea every 8 hours and I haven't had any issues except for when I was in post up with the heaving. Now I'll just get little waves of nausea here and there but nothing major. Best of luck to you! Let us know how it goes! Sent from my SM-G892A using BariatricPal mobile app
