  1. Add unflavored protein mix to your broth. I get mine at GNC. Genepro micronized protein. It dissolves very easy because it's very fine. The protein shakes are driving me crazy, I am going to go postal/Facebook soon. Do not buy vanilla flavored premier protein shakes. Trust mem Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. I can't stand the thought of blenderized food. I can Doo the eggs. I love eggs. But is there any good food that is pureed that comports to the post-op diets? And if I do blenderize food, what would be a good, cheap blender for small portions? Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Most surgeons have patients on a liquid for a week or two after surgery. So, don't be afraid of just haveing protein drinks/broth. Whatever you do make, don't forget you can add unflavored protein powder to it to bump up the protein amount. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I'll probably go insane when I stall. I chart my weight, daily, and do trendline regressions on it, linear, and polynomial. I think I even found statistical deviations whenever I used metamicil for the Water it retains in the intestines. I am an OCD engineer. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

    5 days post op

Yeah. I never had more cravings than I do now. My post-op liquid is supposed to end in three days. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. You seem to be on track. When they say you done need to loose weight before the surgery, that are talking from an insurance point of view. So excited insurances require a weight loss, or used to. It's best to do your diet, create a habit, and even teadjust your metabolism, the more weight you loose now, should mean a faster path to your personal target weight. I didn't have to loose weight either before surgery. But I did and that made me 40 lbs closer to my target. Forming habits pre-op can only help. My program is centered around not just surgery, but education, and forming good habits. Some of the education is "duh" but I take it more seriously. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post-Op loss

2 days after surgery. I usually weight about every 2 days. Since the beginning of a 1 week pre-op liquid diet, and the 2 days in the hospital, and on 9th day post op, lost 1.37 lb per day, and charting it, I get a .99 r2. very consistent. I expect it to change of course.
  8. Every surgeon is going to be different. From what I understand, the pre-op diet is for making the liver smaller. Surgeons seem to have the period to be standard 2 weeks, more more, some less from what I see posted. A smaller liver makes the operation easier. There are tools that the surgeon can use if the liver is too large. But I imagine, that having to use extra tools would make the operation last longer and have other effects like extra anesthesia. Post-op, its about not abusing the newly shrunken stomach. My program is 2 week liquid, then 5-8 days pureed, then move to moist food for 2weeks, then regular.
  9. You mentioned in different posts that you thought you could just have smaller amounts of food and you are releaning. You should not be having food right now. You should be on a liquid diet of protein suppliement/drinks. Then you move onto pureed and moist food. What stage does your doctor have you in right now? Help

I switched from the chocolate flavor to the banana flavor. In my program they teach us that eatling all day, any amount is not good, and they have some term for it, and that you should be have food into three meals and two snacks. And the same with the protein drinks. Post op instructions are to stop drinking clear 30 minutes before, and resume 45 minutes after the "meal.". We are told to drink in increments of 2-3 ounces for each meal/snack over 20 minute period until we can tolerate the whole drink. Then sip water test of day. One drink a day is going to be bad for you long term. That is why the diet was extended. What I do is start the day with a premier protein drink so I get it in early. I am able to drink a whole container in 20 minutes. I then wait 45 and start water. You need to start just taking bigger swallows until you can tolerate an amount over smaller time period. 11. Please share your experiences if you bought any of the canned pureed food from Woodbury. I am interested in the property because it would be easier and less messy to make my own, and, the have Salisbury Steak puree! http://www.woodburyproducts.com/products.asp?dept=Food%20Nutritional&pagenumber=1&val=8 Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

    A year to get fit....

It something I can not do now, but I hope to someday. I have walked through a Spartan, and almost did a Tough Mudder with by brother (I would have just walked it). I would go to the Spartan website. There, you can download a training guide based on the distance you want to do. Its a way to train for the running. https://www.spartan.com/en/training/training-plans/couch-sprint-training-plan
  13. I didn't think of canceling surgery, but when I was cleared, it took a long time, after several calls made to me to pick a date, and then I moved it 3 months later. There are a bunch of threads about the anxiety people go through pre-op. I would say its common thing. Its also common to have no motivation before the liquid diet, and go off diet and have some fun. My anxiety lasted for 2 days before surgery, and I got about 3-4 hour sleep total. I developed a fear that I could not go through the post-op diet stuff. I think I was admitted or created in a hospital 5 times in my life, birth, tonsils at 7, a broken chin from a highschool disagreement 30 years ago for stitches, and from a car accident with cracked ribs 10 years ago. Only surgery was my tonsils. So, the entire experience to me was surreal. I remember going into the operating room, talking to some of the people there, then, I was out. I woke up with flight reaction and was being held down for 2-3 minutes. All I wanted to do was sit up, and get off the bed, my eyes were not even open. I calmed down in the recovery room, really groggy, and witnessed the same flight reaction in another patient that woke from anesthesia. I was sitting there, wondering what the hell I got myself into. Since then, it all got better, and I damn wished I started it as soon as I got the clearance. Its my only regret. There is a hidden anxiety over your body being physically changed, and what seems to be burdensome diet challenges after the surgery. But the post-op diets are far, far easier than pre-op. I had my surgery 1 week ago and 10 hours. Now, time can't go fast enough. I think you should look through the forums for the before/after picture threads. Just the other day, a gentleman posted, that his sleeve surgery was the greatest thing he ever did in his life. I think its the greatest thing, apart from childbirth, than anyone here has ever done too. If you are concerned about the surgery type, it seemed to me that the sleeve was the easiest to do, least complicated, and has less medical restrictions/requirements than the bypass.
  14. A year is not all too long to wait. Most insurance plans will require a 3 or even 6 months monitored diet. There are good reasons for this. My plan required 6 months, and then I even put off the surgery 3 extra months .

    Over eating before surgery

There was another topic about this. Lots of people seem to go "diet-free" the last week or so before the pre-op liquid diet. I did. I enjoyed it, and did not regret it. I hammered back down a few days before the liquid diet started though.
  16. I am not a dietician, so I am just conveying what I have been told. You need to make sure you are getting your protein. My program instructs that skim milk can be added to something that already has protein. If you are making sugar free pudding, use Fairlife milk, because it has the highest amount of protein per serving, or add protein mix to the recipe.
  17. I was about 400 and lost 47 before my surgery last week, counting a one-week pre-op liquid diet. You should not have any problems. Just do what they tell you too, there are good reasons, like walking to get rid of excess co2 they fill you up with for the operation. Every surgeon seems to have a different variation of procedures, just do what they say. One thing I saw suggest, it to have sleeping arrangements ready for when you come home. I can't sleep on my back, I toss and turn, but I can sleep two n a recliner. All the guy crunching you do getting into and out of, and rolling in bed can aggravate the main incision area. A recliner to sleep in really helped. If you don't have one, arrange your bed so you can easily get into moving as little as possible, like moving a a table away. You might want some chewable gax-x tablets ready too, and pre-supply your post-op diet because you might not feel like doing much post-op, but I think that's for any surgery. Also, bring some slip-on shoes to walk in. During my walks in the hospital (every 4 hours), I just used the socks with the tiny grip thingies on them. Walking a lot on them was not comfortable, but I was also walking alot (according to them). My first walk was 5 laps on the floor, which turned out to be over a quarter mile. They were expecting 1 or 2 laps at most. I got up to 8 laps eventually, but the bad posture on just socks on hard floor was not working well, so I cut it back to 4. 19. What surgery ate you having? I found the sleeve to just be the simplest compared to bypass. For my sleeve, they made 5 small horizontal incisions, only one was even close to an inch. The only thing bad, is done pain you get with the largest incision, which should last a week. No pain from my stomach. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Over eating before surgery

I think you are self destructing. You are doing what I did, and countless others have done on other diets "I'll eat alot today, because I start my diet tomorrow," but then, it the next day, then next day, then next day. If you gain weight, your insurance will deny it, or some doctors will just drop you. I was in an office visit and witnessed an irate patient when he got the news. What are you supposed to be eating right now? My program had me on a diet, that I actually lost more than any other diet, and I was cooking my food for the first time, maybe a good diet, or I took it more seriously. It was something like 35-40% Protein calories, 30/30% carb and fat. Are you logging your food? If not do so, use Myfitnesspal and scan/search your foods. You need to qauntify what you are doing so you can start to fix it. Drop the smoothie, eat something like eggs, celery in the morning it may fill you up more. Have a healthy snack that contains protein, it's recommended. You need to start easing into your diet. Perhaps precook your meals. I did that alot. 7-8 oz chicken breast, pan fried vegetables. Pureed food recipes?

Well, my program is pretty much universal for the participants, unless someone has a medical condition I suppose. We are two weeks liquid, then they say 5-8 pureed foods, so I guess that is their option for changing it. We actually have a required class we attend, with a slide slow, and we get copies if the slides, goes from hospital Street entrance to procedures, through the 4 food stages post operation. All have a required meeting with surgeon 2 weeks after discharge, when the liquid diet ends. The spaghetti thing sounds good. I will do that. I might start the pureed 2 days earlier. I am easily getting my water and protein right now. I do fill up quicker than before when drinking some amount of water. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app
