That's very interesting. My experience with GB has been very positive and I'm 2 years post op. But if you're planning on having children I'd go with the sleeve as I've had issues with nutritional deficiencies even though I'm fairly good at taking my Vitamins. After both surgeries you can gain the weight back but GB seems to be more successful long term but it depends on individual and if they keep up exercising and watching weight to prevent gain. But it's much easier to lose 10 then 130 pounds!
Im done with children me and my husband agreed. Thank you

I had the same issue! My family doctor recommend the bypass , my surgeon too but my gastroenterologist said that the surgery was not for me!!! And if I really was going to get it was better to go for the sleeve!
i had to see by myself what where the positives outcomes and the negatives!!!
I have diabetes , need to lose weight, Barrett and cholesterol... I decided to go for the bypass. Why? Because I can stop having pills for all and if my barrett begins to show cancer ...I still have my stomach to repare my esophagus!!!!
Now 2 months later I have no cholesterol, no diabetic pills and no more acid reflux and I loose 50 pounds!!!
And if you really want to lose weight this is not the easy way!!! You have to learn to eat healthy with the sleeve or the bypass!!!
If you learn and Follow the rules you will be ok.
Good luck!!!
Im dieting and exercising for years. I know this is not a quick fix. Ive chose GB due to the weight loss result seems to be better than a sleeve. Thank you. I think i just have to really think as far as which procedure i want to do... -
So i was approved for Gastric surgery, and right now i am in the process of being cleared by multiple specialist. I when to consult with a gastroenterologist, but he stated that he doesn't think i should go for the bypass, and should op for the sleeve because the complications of the duodenum switch. He just felt like i would just do great with a sleeve. I initially wanted the bypass because my BMI is 42.4, and i know you lose more with the bypass, and that was his other proposal because he said losing so much weight in a short period of time is not good and the bypass has been proven to do just that. I'm stuck. He's advising against it and told me to not let anyone push my to get a bypass done.. Has anyone went through this before ?

It really depends on YOUR PLAN. I have United healthcare Through my employer ( Hospital Employee) and my surgery is 100% covered, and a supervised diet is not needed. every united healthcare plan is different. the best thing you can do is call the back of your card and see what is covered, and what is not. that is how i found out. wish you all the best
