Started my 10 day preop diet today. 3 shakes and a meal every day. Napped a lot today. Currently hungry. Think I’ll have a sugar free Jello [emoji16]

I’m also going on a cruise 7 weeks after being sleeved. This will be my 31st cruise, but I’m already mentally planning how I will be successful. I will still be on purée foods then. Lots of Soup and yogurt for me. I’ll be taking Protein Shakes and unflavored Protein Powder to add to things.
How much of the Protein drinks and powder will you be allowed to take on board?

I'm going on vacation and on a cruise 8 weeks after surgery. It's cutting close, had hoped to have surgery by January instead of May. Anyways, I'm nervous about my recovery and how I'm going to feel. This will be my first cruise and won't be able to indulge but that's ok. Those days are over. lol

Finally I was cleared to drink yesterday, Water has never tasted so good. The most painful thing by far is my drain. My DR doesn't always use a drain but he said there was some scar tissue of unknown cause he had to cut through and put an extra stitch, do he decided to put the drain. I might be getting the drain out today, cannot wait for this thing to be gone.

Did they let you suck on any mints or chew ice when you couldn't drink Water?

Same here. I gained back a few pounds after meeting a goal weight. My surgeon said not to worry about it and that I'd definitely lose it during the 10 day cleanse diet.

I've heard it all. "You shouldn't get the surgery," "You don't need it, you're not that big," "You should try this diet," etc...

I was just reading the 10 day diet from my nut. Says if you get nauseous to switch from a whey Protein to a soy, egg white, or plant based Protein Shake.

Breakfast : Protein Shake
snack : Protein Shake
lunch : Protein shake
Snack : Protein Shake
dinner : 3oz of lean meat and 2.5 cups of salad with fat free dressing. BUT I find this to be just a freaking tease!!! I mean come on! How can you expect me to eat just that for dinner when all Iv had all day we’re Protein Shakes?!?! So I honestly have been skipping the food and just drink another Protein Shake for dinner.
Mine's pretty similar. Three Protein Shakes plus a meal with 3 oz portion protein, 1/2c carb, 1-2c veggies, 1stp fat. 10 Days

I really like the Premier Protein Caramel. It's pretty good. I like to mix in some instant Decaf and put over ice.
I appreciate the flavor recommendations from everyone. Want to try individual bottles of the Isopure. Wonder if any of the stores will let you return it if you don't like it. $5 is a lot for one bottle!!

I had the same issue when I got my referral to the surgeon. I actually gained a pound the first month. Went crazy eating foods I knew I wouldn't be able to eat after. My liquid diet starts in 10 days. I'm nervous but I know I've learned some great tools to overcome head hunger. I've worked really hard to get approved and have to stay positive. You've got this!!

My consult was in Aug 2017. Surgery will be May 1. 9 months. Had to do 6 months of physician supervised weight loss, psych eval, and meet with nutritionist to get approval with Aetna. Was about a month from last visit to approval. Took longer than I had hoped but I've appreciated everything I've learned and had to overcome to lose weight and qualify.

May 1st!
Having gastric sleeve. Dr. said 1 to 2 nights in hospital. I laughed and said I'm usually a 2 nighter! But, we shall see! 20 more days! Whoop whoop!

Hello
I know this post is old but my surgeon will be (hopefully) Dr. Fedorak. How was the approval process for you? It's been over 2 weeks since my 6 month doctor visit. How long did it take them to submit for approval? TIA!

I went for a consult last month and told my surgeon that I have GERD and was interested in the sleeve. He did not blink an eye about performing the sleeve even though I've had severe esophagitis. I also inquired with a few surgeons in Mexico as an alternative to jumping through hoops with Aetna for six or more months. One lady I spoke with said her surgeon is adamant that I have RNY with my history of GERD, schatzki ring, esophagitis, hiatal hernia, diverticulitis, IBS, etc. I have quite the assortment of GI issues. Two other surgeons in Mexico said sleeve was ok.
Now, to tell my surgeon I think I should get an RNY instead??? I'll need to find out the out of pocket cost for the RNY now as well and compare to Mexico. I'd hate to make my GERD worse!
Pre-op Meal Ideas- Help I’m stuck!

I’m trying to make a list to go grocery shopping to feed myself and family during 10 day pre-op diet. I have terrible anxiety when it comes to grocery shopping. If you could help with some ideas, I would be forever grateful.
One meal a day I can have 3 oz Protein, 1/2 cup carb/starch/fruit, 1 to 2 cups cooked veggies or 2 to 3 cups leafy greens, and 1 tsp oil or 1 tbsp dressing/flax/chia.
I’m not a good cook. We’ve always lived on fast food, take out or frozen dinners. My cooking skills include Pasta, rice and Beans, hamburger helper, chili, crockpot, instant pot, etc. Basically easy meals.
I would love it if you could list your dinner ideas that are quick and easy. Thanks so much!!
