How did you choose your goal weight?

I'm 5'4" and I have a small frame....but I'm going to stop when I feel and look the best I can!
  2. Well NEWBIE question. How do I get the info into the left side "table", or into the long weight loss ticker? Does it happen on its own? Do I have to "make" entry somewhere? App info isn't that helpful. Thanks!

How did you choose your goal weight?

I looked at the CDC site, which does your weight based on BMI. This is what I got For the information you entered: Height: 5 feet, 4 inches Weight: 130 pounds Your BMI is 22.3, indicating your weight is in the Normal category for adults of your height. For your height, a normal weight range would be from 108 to 145 pounds.

Am I the only one who gets annoyed by the question Why?

You nailed it. WLS is a tool for better health, not an easy out. While not as heavy as I've been in the past, at 65, the cumulative comorbid conditions are almost all of them. I'm doing because i have metabolic disorder, which is hereditary. It means that my stuff is difficult to keep in balance. BUT, that said, I sometimes answer "whyever would you want to know" as pleasantly as I can. Most people kind of go, oh, well...and it stops the conversation before I get defense. Kudos for being open, and proactive about what you're doing. You will be very successful because you know its a tool,, not a fix, and NOT easy, just different.

    Over weight an fatty liver

I've been diagnosed with fatty liver (NASH) since 1987. I have to be careful, always, about "white" carbs & sugar. Even at my best weight, those things could trigger liver pain. As to how your condition affects it, do you see an endocrinologist? Someone should be able to give you specific type of diet to help with both that and the weight loss. Milk products do contain sugar (lactose), but since I don't like them, I have no experience with how they affect fatty liver. Prayers for a good outcome for you.

How incredible you are seeing a goal of renewed health come to life right before your eyes. You should be so proud to have made the decision to use this incredible tool to get your life back. You are a hero for sure. AND, you look very cute! Love your hair color.

How did you choose your goal weight?

Been struggling with that question, so very glad you asked. I think it depends a great deal on your health issues (besides weight struggle). When you are healthy, you have shiny hair, good nails & energy. Been a long time for me. I "should", according to the sadistic weight charts, weigh 125. I have no clue where I need to end up. So setting short term goals along the way is a fantastic idea. Also, you are very brave about the skin reduction surgery. Totally get why we would like that. I think, my overhall health & surgical history as a factor,, I may have to be ok with a bit of saggy baggy! But that's okay for where I am in liife. Best outcome to you!
  8. Best thoughts from an MDD sufferer for life. Do not do this without your psych folks on board. Remember that you may well have withdrawal (which could include diarrhea) so being very stable with your weight & eating would make your coming off meds very much more successful. Also, remember to have those handy things ready: a daily plan, a plan or cognitive therapy tool in mind for your predictable changes. If you have not had cognitive therapy, its a wonderful tool. Helps enormously with both depression and anxiety issues. I am a licensed health care professional, but retired. Will be holding prayers and good thoughts for you.
  9. My doctor does early admit, late discharge. So one night. His staff swears that it's not painful, except gas and slight wound pain. And he does scopalamine patch to control nausea, which lasts 48 hours. You will be okay! And the infection thing is correct. This time of year you also will start getting flu & pneumonia people. A 45 min surgery, planned, is not as weird as your surprise gallbladder!

    Might need another surgery.

Prayers for a great recovery. I waited, a couple weeks ago, with incredible pain -- had a very large kidney stone resulting in surgery unexpectedly. How glad we are that you got in and are going to be great. And kudos on 11 weeks!

    Procedure Date Thursday September 28th

Just stay the course! You are doing fabulously! And when you go in, remember its only about 45 minutes and you're changing your life in a positive, long term way. Take a lot of slow deep breaths while they get you ready. I find (surgery pro here) that if I have a song (ear worm) in my head that makes me calm, or for me scriptural verses, I breeze through the surgery getting ready. You will do well, and we'll all be here on the "other side"
  12. I feel a bit better (day 5 surgery 10/5). My loss is almost 14 lbs, which surprised me. I am a bit light headed, not when driving or sitting, but walking. But then again I was before this its just a bit more. Not hungry, which I am grateful for. Stomach quite growling. No constipation, yay!

    Calling all October sleevers!!

Buffalo Bill, I do think everyone's doc has their own protocol. I have known (by blood work and biopsy) fatty liver infiltration. Maybe your doc is certain you are in good shape. You should be able to ask his bariatric nurse, or coordinator, if this is his usual or just your situation.

    Lower BMI

So great to hear. I get that you're not that big comment, but I am obviously not at a healthy weight, nor is my body doing good things. Grateful for your input.

Wow. I have some few "small" clothes, and they are sadly back in style. We have good thrift stores here in NC And I have a sewing machine and mad sewing skills. But you can only alter so much. Sent from my XT1575 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Two glass of red wine

So glad you decided not to....the risk is just not worth the relax. I'd suggest hot tea and a warm bath, or aromatherapy. But my go to would be Xanax, lol.

    Hair growing back...different!?

I've lost mine twice with chemo, and once because we have hereditary alopecia. Mine came back in very very curly, and of course, the color was different. Lighter than my black (it's now naturally white in the front, salt & pepper in back). Not looking forward to hair loss again, but this time I've got some extensions, and it is heartening to know it sounds like it grows back!
  25. Gosh, I understand why that might discourage you. Anyone would feel badly. I do think if you can get some assist with the liquid protein or ketone diet that you would lose much more quickly than you imagine. Does your insurance company & the facility have a coordinator who can help you figure out the best way to go? Don't give up.
