    RNY November 2017

Hello FluffyChix, I know first hand what you are going through because I also had many delays and hospitalizations and then have to wait for stabilization and then for an appointment and for the operating room to be available. All this while I was sitting on edge wondering, WHEN! I made myself think that there could be some unknown danger which I was avoiding because God knows all things. So I decided to relax and have faith that it would happen when it's supposed to happen. And then it did. It's not easy but you've done your part so try to enjoy the holidays but don't go overboard and then regret it. Before you know it you'll get your call. Good luck! 4. Being a gorgeous human must be a pre-requisite to be a bariatric surgeon because my surgeon is so handsome that my adult grand daughter wants to go with me to my appointments so she can see him. [emoji4] Very nice personality as well as highly skilled. I LOVE him. He says we are family now because I will continue to see him for years to come. 5. Congratulations! Yes , I agree nobody tells us how bad that it's going to feel. I could only take Tylenol for pain. So I really suffered but soon it's just a memory and you are going to be so glad that you made this choice. Get better soon you're doing great. Look at that smile!!! 6. Thank you so much for your encouraging words . My surgeon said that he won't breathe easy until I'm 6 months out. But I'm not worried because I feel so good now. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. I'm a 67 year old female who underwent gastric bypass surgery in September, 2017. I have a very complicated medical history and was considered a high risk candidate. I have diabetes for over 40 years and end stage kidney disease. (stage 5) I have neuropathy of my extremities as well as in my large bowel, (colonic inertia), bladder, and heart. I have a disease called Charcot joint disease in my feet. This makes me lose my balance and fall so I have to walk with a walker. I have congestive heart failure and high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I also have asthma. I am on the kidney transplant list. In order to get a kidney the BMI has to be below 38. My BMI is 40. My max weight gain was 264 pounds and height of 5'3 in. At time of surgery I weighed 248 pounds. I was unable to do the pre - op fast because on day 8 of the two weeks to decrease my liver I ended up in the hospital and nearly died because my potassium had dropped to 1.9 and my sodium 22. I couldn't walk or think . Was admitted to stabilize my electrolytes. (3days) finally after 2 months they scheduled me! (September 11,2017) Instead of going home the next day, I was admitted for 5 days because my heart started racing . I forgot to mention that I have rapid heart beats called Supra ventricular tachycardia. And my blood pressure shot up so I had to stay until I was stable. Because I am sensitive to narcotics ( causes confusion and disorientation) I could only take Tylenol for pain! I m glad that's all behind me now because I really suffered from pain about 15 days) . Now I'm in week 12 and doing great. I used to take 22 pills twice daily. Now I take 3 pills twice daily. Of course I take all of my vitamins as well. My weight is 192 ( my max weight was 264) My BMI is now 34.0. I will see my nephrologist this month ( December) for my status on the transplant list. I'm happy to say that I feel so ALIVE! Before my surgery I was told that I had a 20% chance to live. And I felt like death was imminent. I have a NEW zest for life! Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Protein

You are so right! The same doctor will tell different patients different instructions because we are not carbon copies of each other. I can only consume 46 grams of protein daily due to end stage kidney disease. If I go much higher than that my blood chemistries go crazy. So my advice is to check with your doctor about your specific requirements.

    Protein

Hello Dathvick, first of all, you look fabulous! I don't like the shakes but as a female I have a few reasons to continue them . I make them with milk. I have Osteoporosis in my spine and hips. Also when I slowed down on the shakes my hair is coming out in brushfuls! Also I'm losing muscle mass. My doctor also says not to eat slider foods. But I have another problem where I lose my appetite for a whole day at a time. So Doc says when this happens, take the shake. I'm supposed to eat my meal and take the shake between meals. I think that the shakes do slow down the weight loss. But I'm happy with my loss so far. My max weight was 264 and day of surgery 248 pounds. Today I weighed exactly 200! I'm so happy. I don't see my surgeon until January. Thank you so much for your advice and the pictures.

    Protein

Yes, in the beginning I had to drink 3 shakes made with milk each day. But now that I can eat soft foods I've been decreased to 2 shakes per day. I'm at week 11. I've lost 48 pounds since September.
  11. Have you called your doctor? If you only get 50 mils of water then you are dehydrated. This sounds serious to me. You should call your doctor. I wish you the best! Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Protein

I don't think that you can get too much protein because your pouch is so small. The protein builds muscle and protects against loose skin and protects against hair loss. I use GNC Amp 60 original protein powder and it has a statement on the label which says that the amino acid L-Carnitine is responsible for burning the fat and converting it to lean muscle mass. I really like that statement! Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm a horrible snacker at work

Hello, I'm wondering if you are pre op or post op? If post op then drinking all of that water will fill your pouch and make it impossible to eat. There is supposed to be 30 minutes between drinking and eating before the meal and 45 minutes after the meal. For me, once I had the surgery all of my cravings disappeared! Most people that I've spoken to relate the same thing. Also my tastebuds changed. I didn't like the same things anymore. Other people in my support group say the same. I'm at week 11 and I can watch the food commercials and be around food without wanting any of it. I've lost 48 pounds since September. I do carry my protein shake, water, and healthy snacks every time I leave my apartment. I think this helps me stay on track. Good luck and I hope that my experience helps you. Day 8

I agree with sexycubita, your wounds should not be open. That is an emergency. My surgeon told me not to take any NSAIDS or meds that could make me bleed. This is especially a reason to call your surgeon.

    Feeling lost

Hello rte837 , yes I'm stage 5 end stage kidney disease . I was forced to have the gastric bypass surgery as a prep for a kidney transplant. The doctors don't admit to the hospital until the red blood cells drop to 6. I'm 7.2 so my doctor is treating me with a very dangerous medication called Procrit which is given by injections. I started my first injection yesterday. I hour later I was vomiting bile. The medical information given to me by the pharmacy says that this medication has a lot of side effects and may kill me. I'm feeling so weak and sick but I'm persevering. I'm happy to have lost 25 pounds. My start weight was 248. I'm at week 3 porable protein. The doctors want me to weigh 165. Thank you for thinking about me. It is a struggle but people like you keep me encouraged. God bless you and have a great day.

    Feeling lost

Yes, I get my 3 shakes and 9 ounces of pourable daily. My blood count dropped from 9 which is anemic to 7.2 which is severe anemia. I have end stage kidney disease and my body is not adequately making red blood cells. I think that the lack of red blood cells is probably the problem. My doctor started a medication today that he hopes will stimulate red blood cell production.
  17. Jane, I hope that my explanation and suggestion of how to shed the water will be of some help to you. You can ask your doctor if what I'm saying is true or you can research it on your own. Scientists have done many experiments and documentation on this phenomenon. So there is a lot of information to be had on this topic.
  18. Furthermore, the person revealed that she was eating 400 calories per day and also exercising. The really low caloric intake and extreme exercise caused her Cortisol levels to increase. Cortisol is a hormone which causes fluid retention. She can shed water weight by eating a few more calories and exercise less. She also should monitor her salt intake because that also causes fluid retention. In the first two weeks most programs have us eating broths and creamy , of which both are high in salt.
  19. Johnny if you are referring to my response to the person who is 10 days post op and discouraged by not losing a large amount weight yet I would like to inform you that I am a Registered Nurse of 40 years. This is a fact that I have known for a very long time due to my research but last week we had physician attend our support group and someone asked a similar question as the person that I responded to. The physician said this exact thing. Before you leave irate insults you should have common sense to research first and make sure that you aren't the stupid one. 20. With all weight loss, the body holds on to the fluids you received intraop. As you lose the fat your cells fill with the fluids. Then suddenly your body will equilabrate and release the fluids and you will see weight loss. So persevere, you are going to be so happy soon. Feeling lost

Thank you for those encouraging words. I'm 19 days post op and still having pain and overwhelming weakness. I can only walk for 4 minutes and then I fall asleep with exhaustion! THIS makes me very discouraged because I feel that I should be able to do more. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Day 8

Hello, I too am having tremendous pain on my right side. It happens when I move, cough, sneeze or lift my right leg. The nurse practitioner said that it's incisional pain. I'm on Tylenol syrup for pain med and it doesn't work well. So I found on Walmart 's website a Tylenol syrup extra strength adult formula. It's 500mg per tablespoon and the dose is two tablespoon which is 1000 mg. Now this hits the spot! My doctor approved it. So now my pain is better controlled. 23. Hello, I'm genia22. I had a gastric bypass surgery on Monday September 11th. I expected some pain but this is extremely painful. I'm having post op day #13. I'm suffering to the point of tears. I don't have help from my daughter and 3 grand daughters. So I'm alone struggling with this. I have end stage kidney disease so I can't take narcotic pain medicine. I'm only allowed children's Tylenol which doesn't help. I'm on full liquids and so far the scale does not show any weight loss but I'm wearing tights that I couldn't wear pre-op. So I guess I'm losing and the scale just hasn't caught up. My pain is hot and Sharp stabbing in my right side. It's as if there is a knife in my side. On Tuesday I start pourable proteins. I'm looking forward to that. Has anyone else suffered with excruciating pain? I was crying when the visiting nurse came. I had run out of the Tylenol so she called the pharmacy who delivered some within 2 hours. I'm taking up too much space and for that I apologize. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Just had surgery 9-11-17

Hello, I'm a newby as well. I had a gastric bypass surgery on Monday September 11th, 2017. Today is post op day 6. I'm still on clear liquids but start full liquids tomorrow. I'm not supposed to start the protein shakes until I see the Surgeon on Wed. I'm very weak and I have a lot of pain. I'm struggling to take care of myself because my family is not involved at all. I don't have all of the energy that I'm reading about. I'm 67 years old and I have end stage kidney disease and my blood count dropped from 9 to 7. So I'm sure these factor in to my fatigue. I'm trying to stay positive and uplifted but it's so difficult. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app
