My surgery is on November 21. I’m terrified of being intubated. Do you know if this was part of your surgery? Did you even know it happened? I was worried about sedation during my EGD but that was a breeze.

Hey. I haven't had my sleeve yet (Monday yeah!) But I have had several surgeries/procedures and I assume they put in a tube. My throat is usually sore when I wake up. But they wait until you're asleep to do it so other than the after effect of a sore throat you probably won't even know it.

  2. Haha, I hear you. I am going to try just liquids starting tomorrow because I’m worried about my liver being too large. I am only taking a week off from work and hope I’m able to function. If I need to take more time, I can though. Thank goodness for these boards, reading everything helps a lot.

I'm worried about my liver too. I'm planning on 3 days liquid though I was told only 1 day. Glad to see someone else has the same ideas.

I know what you mean about these boards. I honestly felt somewhat uninformed about the aftermath of the surgery and reading on the boards has truly calmed me down.

    Good luck with yours

Hi everyone! I just got my sleeve on Nov. 2nd. The first day was really hard but 72 hours post op I am feeling much better. I am struggling to get 64 ounces of fluids. They are having me take 1 oz every fifteen minutes. Have any of you tried to take more than 1 oz at a time? I did 3 onces and felt fine but I don't want to push it. Also, my doctor just had me on Clear Liquids for 48 hours and now I am on Protein Shakes which I am tolerating well.

I hope we all do as well. Good for you

  4. I know about bad knees. I walk with a walker now because I'm afraid I'm going to fall down. I know my weight is affecting that. I'm hoping that this journey will help with that and a few other issues along the way.

Yeah that's the main reason I'm having surgery. Yes it will feel nice to be smaller and not stared at and all the other benefits but my joints are the big reason.

  5. November 14th! So nervous. Been trying to stick to one meal a day and it has been tough.

Yeah I'm on the same plan I guess. I'm on lean/greena and there seem to be several options for Protein but although I really like most green veggies there doesn't seem to be as many choices for that. I also don't like being told to "eat your veggies" :)

  6. Yes you are lucky!! 2 weeks full liquid Optifast only shakes, 5 shakes a day + 800 calories a day

I'm not sure if I could handle just shakes. I guess it's one of those ends worth the means though. If my doc said i had to eat tree bark I would give it my best effort just to get the surgery though. I'm so tired of carrying an extra person with me all the time [emoji3] . Best of luck

  7. My diet is 4-5 shake +2 cups of veggies.
Where are you located? I'm in NY, will have mine at Bellevue Hospital

I'm in Tyler, TX. Yeah I'm allowed up to 5 shakes, green veggies and lean meat once a day and if I need it bars from slimfast or Atkins or the like. I'm having trouble with some of the dynamics of the diet like drinking enough Water and making myself take small bites and chew until it's basically blended in my mouth like in a blender. How long is your doc predicting you'll have to stay? Mine says average 2 days.

I have the same dates. Are you having to do a full 2 week liquid? From reading on this site it seems like I'm lucky, I get 1 lean/green meal a day until the day before.

I start my liquid diet tmr. My surgery begins 11/7 in Atlanta, GA. I feel as though I’m parting ways with an ex.

I totally understand the "ex" aspect. I've been trying to eat all the things I will miss. It's going to be weird not have it in my life any longer. Start my preop diet tomorrow so trying to get my "last time" finished. Good luck on your surgery. It seems like something we've waited for so long is finally happening (sorry that I am assuming how you feel it just seems that's how we all feel). I'm 3 days after you.

  10. If you need cough Syrup to feel better, I doubt whatever sugar is in it is really an issue, although if you use something like NyQuil, the alcohol may be. I have tried both alcohol (1 beer) and carbonated soda (diet) since my surgery and have been able to tolerate all except Dr. Pepper Ten, which came back out like a volcano. I don't have any intention of being a regular user of either, but a Sprite Zero or Diet 7-Up would probably hit the spot for an upset stomach. But I think each of us has our own set of tolerances we have to feel our way through as we go through the post op journey, so what one person can tolerate doesn't mean another one can. Good luck to you with your surgery.

    Thank you Busman

  11. Im the chick that started this post. Bipolar 2 and im 3 weeks post op and doing great. No regrets!

I'm glad you're doing well. I'm hoping to have a sleeve in October and I also have bp2 plus anxiety and psychosis. It took a long time to get "stable" and I am a little worried about my meds but glad to know some peoples meds still do OK. Good for you and thanks for posting.

  12. I don't know if you've had your appt yet but at my last visit I asked my psychiatrist about my meds and he said we would just have to wait until after my surgery and see..that everyone reacts differently. So far the only thing I've been told I would have to stop was my antiinflammatory meds. Nervous about that since I have fibromyalgia but worth it to get the surgery (specially if it helps my fibro). My advice...try not to worry until a doctor tells you one way or another. Good luck
