  1. I am checking in, boy have I missed the support...where to start....

the doc who did my surgery left 4 months after I was banded. The hospital gave me the name of another doc whom I have had dealings with and I really like, however...he is NO LONGER doing bands. He does do fills, and will check the band but he does not do support groups. There is NO LOCAL support. I figured, thats ok I got this under control! And, I did! for over 2 years...well, now...I don't know what is going on...I have gained back almost 20lbs of the weight I lost, and I had not gotten even close to my goal. So, I decided to start fresh...I am doing 3 days of liquids..then I am going to do 5 days of soft foods, and then my protein/veggies. I have noticed I can eat way more than I should. I am not following the rules about Portion Control. I have had soda the past 6 months (another bad habit) I was drinking 3 or 4 large sweet teas per day...not even getting close the eating the amount of Protein I need to eat. So, I am hoping that by going back to square 1...the liquids, I can break the other bad habits. Is anyone else struggling???

  2. almost a week. I am doing very well. Not to much pain, the shoulder pain comes and goes...

I am on full liquids now!! Who would have thought I would be so excited to have yogurt, cream of wheat, or runny oatmeal? ???

I have been banded for a week now...the weight loss has been unreal. I know it will slow down, but for now...I WILL TAKE IT!!!!

Great job to everyone out here!!

  3. Hi Onnie67. I, too, am scheduled on Friday, 6/27! I would LOVE to have some online buddies to go through this process together! I'm nervous about it but just went through a 5 hour education class through the Bariatric Center and it put a lot of my fears at ease. Still anxious about it though. I've never had any type of surgery before! TTYS!

    Hi there!!!

I understand about being nervous!! i am too!!!!

    feel free to email me...

    tonyagarst@comcast.net

I have started the pre-op diet (monday) to get ready for surgery. I did not wait till friday, because I know that I may slip up..and wanted a few days of cushion so it would not hurt me.

I also walked yesterday!!!! 50 minuets!!! wahooooo

  4. my doc has me on 2 Protein Shakes (breakfast/lunch) and a high Protein low carb dinner for 13 days before surgery. The day before surgery I am on clear liquids ONLY...the day of and the day after surgery...again clear liquid only....then back to protein shakes (3x a day) for the next 2 weeks....

My BMI is 38.6..a couple of reason I was "personally" given was two-fold...one is that this "plan" will help you shrink the liver, making the surgery easier (for the doc) and the other was it gets your mind set going for weight loss...

  5. Hi Onnie - My surgery is scheduled for June 25th, and I too am looking for a buddy (or buddies) to go through this with and compare notes. I'm nervous, excited, anxious ..... it has been a real roller coaster, but I just keep looking back at my weight loss attempts and up and down roller coaster and feel confident that I'm doing the right thing.

I'm cleaning out my closet tomorrow and fully expect to become a "clothes whore" in about six months.... ha .... hope I didn't offend anyone with that comment!

LOL I just did the SAME darn thing...got rid of the winter 2x clothes!! LOL...I went to Avenue and they had some really cute sweaters in 14/16 so I bought 3...figure even if I am a bit smaller than that by fall (right now i am between 18/20) that would be ok...sweaters can be worn a bit big...and they were 6.99! If you want a buddy I would be MOREEE than happy to email back and forth with ya!!!!!

i will send you a private message with my email!!!

  6. I'm sorry.. my pre-op testing is the 17th, that will come back in 2-3 days, then I'll see the nutrionist for my diet plan. I haven't been told that I will have to do a liquid diet for pre-op. Matter of fact, I didn't have to diet at all because my BMI is below 50. My insurance was approaved 2 weeks ago, so that's all taken care of & out of the way. From reading & talking to people, I've heard that Protein is the hardest to get in at first, so I went out & bought Whey protein powder. Slim fast will be my friend too, I've picked up two containers of powder mix, pudding, chicken broth, and light Soups, like Tomato. My mind is set & I'm ready for the challenge, my biggest fear is the actual surgery.

my bmi is wayyy below 50..actually it is 38.8 and i am still required to do the 2 week pre-op...the doc said he requires it to make the surgery easier...

  7. My pre-op is June 17th, then I see the dietician for a pamphlet to help me if I need a reference, ideas, or just suggestion at hand. My surgery date isn't set yet, but I'm hoping to be banded by the first week in July. Ugh.. I'm nervous! :tongue2:

If you are starting your pre-op on the 17th you should get your band withing a couple of weeks!!!!

my pre-op diet is 2 Protein Shakes a day and a healthy low carb meal. I was doing the kashi shakes, but they are to high in carbs so those will not be taken for the pre-op. My nutritionist said that the slim fast low carb drinks are ok to do...as well as sugar free carnation instant Breakfast (add 1/3 cup dry powder milk and 8 oz of skim milk...23gms of protein) I am supposed to start on Friday...but I think i will start Monday...that way I don't have to worry about the weekend...I am afraid if I try starting on Friday...the weekend will be there and I won't have my "routine" in place...

Have you sent off your information to the insurance yet???????

  8. OK so I have a question did you have to lose weight to qualify for the surgery? My insurance required I lose 5% of my body weightm which I did by doing Atkins and Water pills. Know I am back up to my original weight and I am hearing things about shrinking your liver and I am worried that I should be dieting right know instead I am eating like it's my last meal.

No, I did not have to loose any weight before surgery. I am required to do the 2 week pre-op diet to help shrink the liver. You need to stopping thinking about your last meal, and focus on how great you will look and feel...kwim? I gave up soda 45 days ago...when I start craving it, I tell myself...nothing at all tastes as good as being thin feels...as nutty and corny as that sounds..I believe it is the truth. I was a size 5/6...I know what "thin" feels like..I don't expect to be a 5/6 again, but I do expect to be in the onederland and normal size clothing instead of plus sizes...

so that is what I am thinking...

  9. I will get it started. I am from Minnesota. My husband and I farm and have a drainage tile business. I had my own business for many years but sold to take some of the stress out of our lives. There are days I would love to head to town to work but then I just have to think about how nice it is to not have to jump in my car every morning to go to work.

    Anyone else want to share????????:wink2:

    Hi there!

    I am Tonya, from IL...

my scheduled date is June 27 with the pre-op starting on June 13th.

I was told yesteray that i can start exercising and getting prepared!

I am so excited to be starting this new chapter!!!

  10. I hope it is ok for me to be here...

I have my surgery date set for June 27th! I am excited about starting a new chapter in my life!!

I start the pre-op diet on 6/13 and the surgeon already told me he will keep me over night one night!

    Im soooo excited!!!

  11. i have been drinking a carnation sugar free instant breakfast with 8oz of milk and 1/3 cup of dry milk....that is 23gms of protein..

I also have used Kaski Go Lean Protein Shakes and they are awesome!! a bit higher in the carbs, but i am not on "liquids" yet as i am waiting for my approval from the insurance..this is just something i am doing to get my body "ready" too! The Kashi shake has 29gms when milk is added, then i add 1/3 cup dry milk to it for 37gms of Protein. They really fill you up!!!
