  1. Hi all, So, I am officially three weeks out on Wednesday. Yay! Really happy with results so far, but I am terribly nauseated almost all day since about 5 days out. It’s making it hard to eat. Sometimes I force myself, but other times I just choose not to because the thought alone makes me sick to my stomach. I’m also really sensitive to smells now which is making it worse. At my one week post-op appt, the doctor said to try to push through it and use anti-nausea meds as a last resort. Should this nausea be over by now? Am I being a big baby about it? What have you all experienced and done to get rid of it? I’m so ready for it to end. I’m trying to meet water and protein goals, but most days it’s not happening because of the nausea. I have been working out consistently, though.

    Nausea - 3 weeks out

Thank you for the responses! My doctor prescribed zofran. I am on Prevacid for my GERD, which is what I was on pre-op to control it, as well. Zofran seems to work okay, but I still have a little sour stomach. I’m determined to eat/drink more in hopes that will completely eliminate the problem.

    Nausea - 3 weeks out

I just emailed my doctor’s office to see if they can prescribe anything. Soooo over this sick feeling. Hope you feel better soon!
  4. After a week out, I have been trying to do 30 minutes of exercise 5-6 days a week. I've been walking, playing Just Dance, and using the Arc trainer/elliptical. I'm only doing what I feel like I can, and I try to take it somewhat easy. My doctor's office just said to take it slow and do what I feel capable of doing.

    Family at hospital?

My mom, dad, and boyfriend came with me pre-op just to see me off for surgery. Mom insisted spending the night with me, and I’m actually really glad she did. She helped me get around to walk and go to the bathroom, since doing anything with an IV is a hassle. I suggest having one person stay with you just for that reason. I think you’ll appreciate the support!
  6. Thank you!! I’ve been working out (arc trainer or Just Dance) a half hour every day since a week post op, but I need to work on being more active around the house.
  7. Glad I saw this thread! Pretty much dealing with what the OP has. I’m mildly nauseous pretty much all day long but don’t vomit. I’m really sensitive to smells. It’s making it hard to eat or drink, but I force myself. All I want to do is sleep so I don’t have to feel this way. Because I’m sleeping so much, I’m not meeting water or protein goals. Currently 2.5 weeks post-op. Just trying to cling on to the thought that this feeling is temporary and it’s worth it in the long-run.

    Anyone not need plastic surgery?

From what I’ve noticed, it seems like plastic surgery is more so a want than a need for most people (just my observation). It can cause medical issues like skin rashes, but if it doesn’t, having skin removed is elective. It also seems like some insurances will pay for it if it is deemed medically necessary, but that’s just what I’ve seen on here. Once I lose all of my weight, I want a breast augmentation, tummy tuck, arms, etc! But that’s just me! With the way I carry my weight, it’s inevitable that I’ll have a lot of loose skin on my stomach and arms, no matter how much I lift weights. Not everyone feels the need to get rid of the excess skin, and that’s completely okay! We are all different.

    Stomach noises

If I'm eating/drinking, my stomach is talking! Interested to see if others notice (I'm 9 days post-op).

    Burping a lot?

I had surgery on 12/13, and I am burping a ton! In reference to the above comment, I have had GERD for a few years that is controlled with Prevacid. Since I had a hernia repaired at the same time I was sleeved, doc said my chances of continued GERD post surgery are really low. Not sure if that helps any but just thought I’d share my experience!
  11. Hi all, I just started the full liquids phase of my post-op diet, which includes days 6-14. I’m doing relatively well with everything in terms of getting my water and protein in, but switching to this full liquid phase has been difficult. I was really looking forward to tomato soup, but my nutritionist says to mix it with skim milk or soy milk, and the smell of those mixed together makes me want to vomit. I got down some earlier, but I can’t even stand to smell it now. I also tried cream of mushroom and it made me want to vomit as well. I’m so bummed because I was really looking forward to having something other than sweet protein shakes to drink. My full liquid diet includes skim milk or soy milk, strained cream soup with milk added for protein, protein powders, low sodium V8 (tried and it was meh), slimfast with protein, carnation instant breakfast no sugar added, and premier protein. Any suggestions on how to get some savory/salty flavors in during this part of my diet? Maybe I could have a little soup without adding additional protein and continuing to drink protein shakes during this phase to meet my goals? I have my one week post-op on Thursday, so I’ll ask my nutritionist then, but I wanted to get all y’all’s opinion in the meantime. Also, I’m vegetarian, so all the meat options are out! Thanks for any help!
  12. Tried French onion today. Still makes my stomach pretty upset. At first I thought it was just adding milk to the cream based soups, but now I’m starting to wonder if it’s because soup is hot or the high salt content?? Wish I could figure this out!
  13. I wish I would have known how much gas pain I’d have. It was mentioned many times, but I guess I just chose to ignore it. Three days post-op and it’s just as bad as the day of. [emoji30] I know this too shall pass, though!

    December Sleevers??

I believe it’s an option under your profile settings!

    December Sleevers??

Sleeved yesterday, and I feel pretty good overall despite MAJOR gas pain. It’s from shoulder to shoulder and near my ribs. Walking to hopefully get rid of it soon, but it’s not helping yet.

    December Sleevers??

Surgery tomorrow and the nerves are kicking in! I’m not so much nervous for the surgery as I am for life after. Food has been my comfort for my entire life, so it’s kind of scary to think that I won’t have that relationship anymore. Overall, though, I’m excited to build a new, healthy life!

    December Sleevers??

First day of liquids today, so I am officially two weeks out from surgery! Seems surreal.

    Poll: How many carbs?

Asked my nutritionist about carbs post-surgery. She said they don’t have any specific number they want me to have. She said it was most important to eat your protein first and if you have room for the carbs after that it is fine. She did say that most carbs should come from whole foods and not refined sugar, but I feel like that’s obvious.

Anyone do the hiatal hernia insurance route?

My surgeon doesn't do this, but I wish they did! It's a self pay package for sleeve only or sleeve with hiatal hernia repair that costs more. Good luck with everything!
  20. I took the leap, and I am scheduled for surgery on December 13th. Eeeeeek! It's going to cost me an arm and a leg, but it's worth it. Thanks for helping with my questions!

    December Sleevers??

Scheduled for December 13th! It has been a long road with a lot of doubt and second thoughts, but I know this is what I need to do for a better future. Congrats to all of us!
  22. Thank you! This was very helpful.
