    Protein Intake Help

I'm having the same problem with the shakes. I'm 4 days post op and I was finally able to finish one 11 0z shake. Took me the entire day to drink it. I get the same chest pains drinking water or anything else for that matter.

    Feeling sad after surgery...

Yes, like so commented in the last post, the afternoon is better than the morning. Putting an ice pack on my largest incision has helped tremendously with the pain! Also the pain patches help a lot too. The pain medicine Tylenol with codine does nothing for me, unfortunately. You just figure out how to get through. Everyone tells me days 3-6 are the worse. So I'm looking foreword to better days. At least my knees aren't hurting as much!

    Thankful!

Girl, me too! I feel your pain!! The afternoon has been better than the morning was. Just trying to stay positive and hope each day gets better! Hang in there!!
  7. Thank you! I haven't told anyone. Just my support group here. Thankfully I have you all!! I hate confrontations and just didn't need to deal with people telling me what they think I should be doing. Only I know what's best for me.

    Thankful!

Thank you for this!! Looking forward to when I can eat again.

    Feeling sad after surgery...

Thank you for your comment! I agree with everything you said! So hard getting the protein shakes down right now. Living alone is difficult. My latest difficulty has been trying to put on these leg squeezing things. Hard to put them on when I have pain in my incision when I bend forward. And the leg things aren't working right either, so trying to put them on and off has been a chore. I am looking forward to having some regular food. And these commercials on tv are killing me! Grrr....
  10. Good for you!! Flaunt it girl!! I'm a Georgia girl too!! Be proud of the hard work you've done and enjoy yourself!!
  11. I didn't tell anyone at all. I only told my family and like 3 people I was having a Hiatal Hernia repair, which I did with the sleeve. Just no one knows about the sleeve part. I've been told so many years by my kids to "just eat right", but at my age it isn't that easy! I know they would worry about me, so so decided to just keep it to myself. All of my family live out of state except for my daughter who lives 3 hours away. Both of my kids just started new jobs and I just didn't want to put them through anymore stress. Worrying about Mom was the last stressor they needed. It is hard doing it alone, but hoping it will get easier...

    Feeling sad after surgery...

Thank you! I know if so told my daughter now she would be so upset that I didn't tell her sooner, even though I knew what aid be hearing had so told her earlier. Most people at work, forget it, they are too nosey, and very judgemental. They don't need to know my business anyway. Maybe some day I will share it with someone close to me. Maybe even my family. But I just can't right now. I've learned to be a very independent person since my divorce, so I know I can handle this too. Thank you for your kind words!

    Feeling sad after surgery...

That's exactly how I feel! Like what if something goes wrong, then what! Just took my first shower 4 days post op and feel much better. Was easier than I thought. It is hard having this huge "secret" that no one would understand. I'm glad so did it, so far, just hopes it gets better. And yes it is sad when no one knows you even had surgery, much less this surgery. No one to check on you, or just to see how you are doing. My family is checking on me, but they are checking because of my hiatal hernia surgery. Only 3 people at work, that I trust know that I had the hiatal hernia surgery.

    Feeling sad after surgery...

You know, it's crazy how your family and friends can be so supportive of you in many things but then when it comes to something like this I knew they would be trying to talk me out of it. Especially my kids, as they would be worried about me more than anything, and on the other hand trying to tell me to "just eat right." I've tried "just eating right" and it only last so long, and then I gain more weight than I had weighed before. It's a never ending cycle. And I could see it effecting my health. I was miserable and could hardly get around due to my knee pain. My knees already feel better and my my blood pressure is better than it's been in 20 years! So, I have to keep telling myself I'm doing this for me and I am getting better!

    Feeling sad after surgery...

Awe, thank you so much for your kind words! I needed that more than you know! Now I'm crying happy tears. You are so sweet! This has been so hard keeping it a secret from everyone, and doing it all on my own. My insurance co wouldn't even cover this. While I was in the hospital the nurse asked me why I decided to do this. I broke down and told her I felt the need to do something for me for a change. I've always been there for everyone else, and I could feel my body falling apart, and I want to be able to be there to enjoy grandchildren some day. She told me sometimes we have to do things for ourselves. That's where I've been at. My daughter is getting married next year so my goal is to look good at her wedding. Thank you again for your kind words! ❤️
  17. Yes, I had the liquid diet, basically shakes for two meals and then a regular heathy meal. I actually lost 13 pounds doing that! Almost made me wonder if I should have the surgery and just stick to this diet. Then I had just clear liquids for the day before.

    Feeling sad after surgery...

Gailkindo, thank you for your kind words! It's just so frustrating sometimes. Right now I'm dealing with trying to get these leg squeezer things to work, which aren't working properly. It's so hard getting them on and off by myself, as every time I lean forward I feel the pain from my major incision. I envy those that have support from others. And yes God is there for me, thankfully! ❤️ I wish you the best in your surgery and a speedy recovery!

    Water!!

I had mine on Mon the 11th too. I am home and trying to get in my fluids. It especially hard getting in my shakes. They go right through me. popcicles are a life saver! I'm still in a lot of pain from the main incision site. Still trying to figure how to get out of bed and off the couch without excruciating pain. I live alone so this has been quite an adventure already. Good luck!

    1 week post op

I'm 3 days post op, and not really counting calories, just mainly trying to get in my fluids. I am concerned because my shakes go right through me. I am mostly drinking water, tea, popcicles, and jello right now. I try to sip the shakes a little at a time. Also taking my vitamins.
  22. Hi, I'm 3 days post op. I was sleeved with HH repair. I'm still in pain from the incisions, the largest one mostly. It is swollen and bruised. Plus my chest hurts when I breath in deeply. Doing the breathing exercises and putting ice pack on my stomach for swelling. Shakes go right through me, which concerns me. My stomach always seems to be gurgling. I'm still trying to figure out how to get out of the bed without hurting. How are you feeling? Terri
