  1. I am 5 weeks post op, and I’ve been getting terrible headaches daily. Most days I wake up in the morning with a headache, and then have started getting them during the day now too. Does anyone else have this problem? If so what do you do for it? I don’t want to have to keep taking Tylenol every day.
  2. My weight loss seems to be kinda slow since post op... I've lost 17 pounds since surgery on 9/11/17, and lost 14 pounds prior to surgery, for a total of 31 pounds since 8/25. But today I went to Walmart and figured I'd try on some jeans. I have not worn jeans in almost a year. Much to my surprise, I was able to get into a size I have not been able to get into in years. Then when I did the math in jean sizes, I've dropped from a size 16/18 to a size 10!! I just couldn't believe it!! This road is not easy, but seeing the inches coming off by being able to wear clothes I haven't been in was a nice reward. So, sticking with this is so worth it!! Best of luck to everyone out there, and thanks for your support!

    So excited!

Yes it is! And congratulations to you too!!
  4. I am 2 weeks post op and this morning I am really hungry! I thought we weren't supposed to get those hunger pains since that hormone was supposed to be removed. Anyone else getting hungry in the first phase, or any phase for the matter?

    Constipation

I have been getting more and more constipated every day. I can usually go like every other day, but getting harder to go each time. Today was absolutely awful and painful! So I went straight to Walmart and bought a stool softener. A nurse where I work told me I can take one a day for as long as I need to.

    Getting hungry!

I talked to my surgeon about always being hungry, and he said I'm not taking in enough protein, so I've been making sure I get plenty of protein. If I do get hungry then I eat something high in protein. I did buy some of the high protein snacks from the Bariatric store, and that helps too. What's weird is that lately I just haven't even been able to finish a yogurt or my jello(have to put my antacid broken up in the jello), and it's getting difficult again to get in two protein shakes a day. I just seem to get full before I finish one. Also makes it hard to get in my water intake doing the 30/30 rule. How do most people on here eat and drink their water throughout the day? Do y'all try to have set meals, and when it's not mealtime you are drinking water, or what? I'm just starting phase 3. Thanks!

    Hair loss!!

    Good info! Thanks!!
  8. I am 5 weeks post op and at work today they had what they called Swiss steak, but looked like a hamburger patty. I ate one fine until the last two bites I had to stop, as I got a very full feeling suddenly and have felt full all night (5 hours later still feel full.) I tried to drink a few sips of water and it just makes me feel full again. I'm thinking my body is having trouble processing the meat. I really haven't had much trouble eating much of anything. Sometimes it just takes me awhile to eat whatever it is I'm trying to eat. Has anyone else had this issue? And what can I do to not feel like this? Do I need to just drink fluids/shakes until the fullness goes away? Thanks!
  9. That is very true. My surgeon kept saying always eat your protein first, and at that meal that was all I ate, which was more than enough! I didn't want anything else for the rest of the night. Then I started getting fearful that I may have stretched my pouch, and I got scared. I hope this isn't the case!!
  10. True... But can't we save our food and eat it later as well?

    Hair loss!!

Oh wow, I had no idea! I told my Surgeon's nurse what all I was taking and she didn't say anything about it. Maybe she didn't know. :-/ Thanks for the info! I've been taking this combination for over a month. I will stop the Zinc. I had just heard that Biotin and Zinc together work really well for hair. I have really been constipated too, which I figure is from the iron. Any suggestions there??

    Hair loss!!

I take Biotin and Zinc along with my Multi-vitamin, calcium, probiotic, iron, and B12. I am only 5 weeks post op, and praying my hair doesn't fall out which is why I started taking the Biotin and Zinc. I also use Nioxin shampoo which is for thinning hair, and it works great! A friend started using it when her hair was thinning and she saw a huge difference right away as well. Best of luck to you!
  13. Hi, it was only like 2 ounces of meat and was very soft. It wasn't like a regular steak. No way would I have attempted that! It was like a small hamburger patty. I also chewed it up really well before swallowing. It took me about 30 minutes to eat those 2 ounces. And then couldn't even eat the last two bites. I have been drinking my water tonight, so not feeling so full anymore from the meat.

    Staples

I know this probably sounds like a crazy or stupid question, but I have to ask... I'm going to be flying out of state the end of the month, and I'm just curious to know if the staples from the surgery can cause the metal detector to go off when I go through security? Just wondering if I need to take any of my hospital paperwork with me showing I had surgery. I will be 6 weeks post op when I fly. Thanks!

    Staples

Thank you for this information!! And Congratulations on your weight loss!!! That is so wonderful!!!
  17. That is fantastic! My Dr. said no exercise other than walking for 6 weeks. And then exercising is a must! My thing is my knees hurt so bad right now and I'm hoping that will get better with the weight loss so that I can exercise more. I've always been very athletic until a car accident a few years ago, and then bad knees from osteoarthritis. Praying I can get back to it soon! I am 5 weeks post op now and have lost 31 pounds total, counting the 14 pounds pre surgery.

    Coming off cpap

I totally agree with you! Everything you said here was exactly how it went with me! They were so adamant that I bring it with me to the surgery, and then nothing was ever mentioned again. It got to where I couldn't sleep with it on more than about 2 hours anyway prior to surgery, so it was a pain when having to get up to go to the bathroom. And like you, no one asked how I was doing on it, etc, so I said let me try without it, and I have done fine. Sleep so much better without it. I asked if I needed to return it and the girl told me no, it was mine to keep. So, there it sits in the corner of my bedroom.

    Staples

So, what do they do when you set off the metal detector? You just tell them you had need replacement? I'm sure they can see a scar for that.

    Staples

That's good to know. My scars are almost completely gone, so that wouldn't work.

    Food

I used to love sweet tea, but had to start drinking unsweetened tea prior to surgery, and I use artificial sweeteners, and have gotten to the point where I'd just rather drink Water with "good ice" (the small chewable kind). Never in my life has water been my favorite drink... until now.

    Coming off cpap

I was told to bring my Cpap machine to the hospital, and I was under the assumption that I'd have to use it during the surgery. I was just told about 2 months prior to surgery that I even needed a Cpap machine. Well, they didn't make me use it in the hospital, and I have not used it since I came home almost 5 weeks ago. I am sleeping so much better since I've gotten home/had the surgery, so my machine just sits in the corner of my bedroom. I don't have a significant other, so don't know if I snore or not, but I usually only wake up once during the night (to pee) where I was waking up several times (just waking up), which they told me was because I was waking myself up from stopping breathing. My sleeping seems more sound and restful now. I've lost 30 pounds since 3 weeks pre op. til today.

    Bad dreams...

Thank you so much for your comment!! The only thing I had taken prior to surgery was ibuprofen, which except for like 2 weeks prior to surgery I was taking it almost every day due to severe knee pain. So maybe it is still trying to get out of my system. Who knows?? I've never slept very well at all. Although I am sleeping some better since surgery. I just hope the bad dreams stop soon! Thanks again!
