  1. Thank you! Great ideas!! I'm still in disbelief that this is actually, finally going to happen. And hungry.
  2. What timing!!! Tomorrow morning is my surgery and I'm packing.... I've got pajama bottoms, sweats to wear home, clean undies, chapstick, charger, tablet, phone, gas x chewables..... What am I missing?

    Goal Weight?

I actually asked my surgeon that very same question. He told me not to put a number on it. My ultimate goal should be to become 100% healthy. He said that numbers alone aren't enough. My surgeon also had a VSG several months ago--and looks super good, I'll tell you!!-- revealed that although he feels amazing, he's not off of all his meds yet and would like to lose about10-15 more pounds. With that said, I put mine smack in the middle of 'normal weight' for my height, cuz that would be awesome! 😜 But honestly, I'll take healthy and strong over a number any day.

    BMI under 40

It really depends on your insurance. I started with a bmi of 39 in July, currently I'm at 37 and have 2 comorbidities. My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday. I was told that my insurance won't cover it if I went under 35. Figuring all those details was much easier talking to the doctor' office. They knew my insurance requirements and specifics without even looking them up! I did start online, to find an approved provider, went to his seminar, and went from there. If you are cash.... well, that's another story!

    Congrats! Looking good!!
  7. Wow, Sparkle, that's a long time! Why did you have to wait that long?
  8. How funny! I got the call Friday as well lol!! I'm usually a note person myself, but fortunately I've got most of everything I will need for at least the first two weeks, just need to pick up the chewable vitamins tomorrow from my nut after my preop. So, I've been spending a weird amount of time staring at my calendar wondering how I'm going to get everything done. Oh how I pray to be one of the lucky ones who have no complications and are back at it in a week! Honestly, I think I'm still in denial that this is finally happening. Hopefully after my appt tomorrow, I'll believe it.
  9. Got the call just a couple of days ago. January 30. Seems like it's taken forever, then blam! Right around the corner!

    I’m a WARRIOR!

Thanks for that! It's actually what i really needed to hear right now. My surgery isn't scheduled until January, so I'm trying to lose what I can now. I've got to overcome this head hunger thing.... I can do this! I'm a warrior, too!

    Why is it a secret?

I am so sorry that you are going through this. These are my fears that have kept my mouth closed. I know a lot of people and am well aware of human nature to judge and gossip. The last thing I want is other people's pity. I am like you also and am truly so happy and grateful that I am given this opportunity--so excited to begin this journey. So here you are. When you feel those ignorant fools, pull your strength from deep inside and stay strong. Thank God for your family, your base, and know that we are on your side and want the very best for you. We know your pain and dreams. I do. You're going to be great!

    Quick Broccoli Cheese Protein Soup

    Looks yummy! Saved!!
  14. That's what I did, too! One from my primary and another from my cardiologist with a current EKG and stress test, just to be sure. Can you imagine?!? All that worked up nervous excitement just to be turned away last minute? No, thank you.
  15. Also, as a side note: When talking to my cardiologist, he recommended that he also do a stress test (Not required from insurance) as he's seen anesthesiologists turn away patients right before surgery if the patient has any heart issues. I have HBP.
  16. For me, the insurance just requires 'being treated'. The big deal is for the surgeon and the anesthesiologist-- they want a minimum of one month. This is to safeguard the procedure and reduce complications during surgery.

    Why is it a secret?

First, it's a medical procedure and private. If I were having any other medical procedure, hysterectomy, my ingrown toe nails fixed, whatever, I wouldn't tell everyone. Second, I just don't want to be judged for 'taking the easy way out', 'why don't you just watch what you eat and exercise more', or anything else a doubter would say. And to be brutally honest, I'm afraid that I will fail again. It's weird because I am actually an outgoing person and involved in many community activities. I generally like people and am open with just about everything else. I'm just embarrassed about my weight. Maybe one day I'll 'come out', but for now just my immediate family as we live together and I have to.
  18. Is the mask fitting properly? It can't be too tight nor loose. If it's fine, I would suggest a smaller mask. The place where you got the appliance will be able to help you getting a different mask also. Until then you can cut up a t-shirt or something like that that's soft and line the silicone edges to reduce irritation. And, of course, make sure everything stays super clean.
  19. I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. I'm having so much trouble with this machine also. It's not just the constant air blowing in my face, but the sound as well. It's not loud by any means, just a hum, but I've always needed complete silence and darkness to fall asleep. The nurse told me that the doctor and especially the anesthesiologist would not perform the surgery if you haven't been wearing it for at least a month as you may be overly tired and it would complicate surgery. So, hopefully I can break this 49 year practice of mine!

Affordable Care Act in Illinois 2018

I'm sorry to hear about your problems! I do understand some of what you're going through as I have to drive nearly four hours to get my surgeon and his team. I also have difficulties with my vision. I've been lurking this forum, and YouTube, and feel as if I know you. And although you don't know me, I wanted to wish you well. I pray that you heal and recover quickly! 💜💜💜
