  1. Warning bells times two. 1. I am fortunate to have a WLS package ... the pre-op supervision, the surgeon, the op itself, the post op supervision by an exercise physiologist AND the post op supervision by an experienced bariatric clinic dietitian. 2. I exercise 29 days per month ... 2.5 to 3.75 hours per day of swimming and pool aerobics. My calorie intake is set at 900 cals daily with 62grams minimum protein and serious advice to keep the protein to carbs ratio in the order of 5:3 or, at worst 5:4. Because of my highly busy exercise regime, I usually need extra calories. I tend to finish each day at 1150 to 1450 calories consumed. I am in week 15 post op and have lost 1.3kg to 1.4kg average per week. (That's 2.8 to 3.1 pounds). If she is not experienced with your post-WLS, I'd counsel you to rethink. If your clinic/surgeon has not provided better info, GO BACK and ask for it. I am only a single voice but I think you need a different strategy ... I am no expert but I am getting post op help from a range of experts who are "tied" to me for 15 months post-op. That $1000 is well worth it.
  2. To the OP, I am about to turn 62 and had WLS 15 weeks ago. (Thursday, Oct 12, 2017)
  3. My suggestion is "Get to your local swimming centre" ... preferably an indoor one with year-round facilities. Swimming takes away over 90% of the pressure on joints and the risk of exacerbating arthritic problems. I try to live on 1100 calories per day (15 weeks post-op) and to swim for two hours or more daily. It works. My exercise physiologist says that, of the last 30 kg (67 pounds) I lost, 27.5kg (61 pounds) was internal body fat. Swimming was my saviour after painful work in a 'normal' gym.

Hear, hear to that. Well put!

Please, please ... sip. Chugging or gulping should be off your agenda.

Where is everyone from City & State

For the (mostly) non-Australians among you. Australia is as big as the continental USA (no Alaska, no Hawai'i) I have included a "wide shot" of Australia. RED ARROW. I also have a close-up of my part of the east coast in New South Wales (state).

    Pain Medicines that cause pain

Not exactly! I made a decision about a dozen years ago to let my body co-exist with pain. PAIN is the body's way of telling you that you have a problem. Masking pain so that one can "soldier on" through difficult days with the family or work is not good for us. I try to react to pain with either SLEEP or gentle exercise.

    Buddies/Mentors

Ask away ... I have been here since July 2017. Sleeved 12th Oct 2017 ... 15 weeks ago.
  9. My boss has put a new ID photo on the work wall ... now six months and 34kg (77 pounds) (5.5 stones) lighter. My five year D/L renews in 2020 ... so RMS will tale a new photo then. Passport due for upgrade in 2027 ... maybe a new photo then. I was a Y wedding ring and now it slips off or falls off. I don't wear it to the pool for my exercise any more. I told my wife I'd get it adjusted before our next anniversary. (Dec 2018).

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

No. Not me. All clear sailing since Thursday, October 12th. Today's Monday weigh in is a stall week ... only dropped 200 grams (6.5 ounces since Monday 15th) ... my lowest loss week in 15 Mondays!

    Pain Medicines that cause pain

No pain meds required at all. Not pre-op! Not post-op. Just no pain requiring assisted pain relief.

WTF DID MY HUSBAND JUST SAY?

Coober Pedy is okay but Australia's best opals are in this state (New South Wales). You don't have to go to out of the way on an expensive excursion to South Australia where Coober Pedy is located. The world's best black opals come from Lightning Ridge, NSW. The very best coloured opals are found in White Cliffs, NSW. Coober Pedy is about #3 or #4. The best time to visit Lightning Ridge is August/September (in spring) ... way too hot in the daytime from late October until mid-April (Easter). If you want to be there for the annual Opal Festival (and you have sufficient funds), it's run over 16 days from the last full week of September into October.

WTF DID MY HUSBAND JUST SAY?

Thanks. Beautiful summer day is a bit presumptuous for (yesterday) Saturday. 42C (107F) and we were on a four-hour road-trip home. The car has great air-conditioning and we stayed shut inside until 2 kilometres from home (when stopped to replenish my car's fuel load.) 605 kilometres and the tank had barely 2 litres left from the 51 litres it started with. We arrived home to a coastline of serious bushfires. Reference NOWRA, NSW Australia in your mapping program/app. Or you could look up Bundeena NSW or Waterfall NSW. If you are a reader of news, try http://www.abc.net.au/news and catch some of the bushfire and weather stories.

WTF DID MY HUSBAND JUST SAY?

Yes, I hear you. There is an assumption held by a great number of people that all obese (or morbidly obese) people are stupid. They obviously don't realise that an eating addiction or seriously uncontrolled self-medication with food can cross social strata, mental abilities and the extremes of wealth and poverty. I was, in 2006 and again a ten months ago in a bad place with my obesity but I hold a double undergraduate degree in History and a Masters Degree in Mathematics. I was not granted them as freebies ... I worked hard to achieve both. However, there are still the haters and small-minded folk who do the association that grossly overweight people must be academic underachievers. Mmmmm.

    Question on Feelings of hunger

In my signature IN RED after "Rainbow_Warrior", it tells you.

    Protein in diet

Liquid egg whites may help. When making protein shakes or smoothies, I sometimes replace HALF the WATER with liquid egg whites. They mix in easily and can be sipped/swallowed seamlessly.

    Relationship between Obesity and Cancer

No doubt ... if we take obesity out of the picture, the health risks (INCLUDING CANCERS) diminish.

    When to increase intake?

If the liquid is water and you can keep drinking/sipping, that's okay ... BUT don't forget to cease 15 to 20 minutes before your food intake.

    Question on Feelings of hunger

Well, I exercise hard 28 or 29 days per month. My body begs for more "fuel" (i.e. food) OFTEN. I eat but only have room for 50 grams to 110 grams depending on texture/density. I think I am hungry but I just have nowhere to put it WITHOUT PAIN or the risk of vomiting it back. Thanks to my gastric sleeve op, I have the power to say no EASILY.

Please, read and give me you opinion

It doesn't use the word 'consecutive' but it may be implied to some extent. You need to contact the insurer/issuer. Better to know now!
  21. Hard to go past the FIVE DAY POUCH RESET DIET. Try it! (It's actually posted as a photo earlier in this thread.)

Similar anecdotes abound. I'm in post op Week # 14 and I'm so glad this is working so well.

    Pre op weight gain

Leaving your "food funerals" very very late. A price to be paid for that, I'd think.
