  1. I had chronic heartburn prior to surgery, so the sleeve wasn't an option. I had bypass 11/07/17. I feel great, I have no issues with any foods at this point (kept to my program). Have not had any heartburn at all. Not even once. That alone has improved my quality of life (I had fresh pineapple this week, no heartburn). Weight loss is a great big bonus, down 28lbs since I left hospital.

  2. I had RNY 11/7 . Did great in the hospital, came home on a Thursday and started vomiting all night, trying to keeping drinking. Called my surgeon, they prescribed me nausea Patches along with the solutab. Drink, drink, drink, vomit, vomit, vomit. Called back Monday, had to go in for fluids. Want me to drink nothing but Gatorade, keeping nothing down. Had to go back Wednesday & Thursday for fluids, and barium swallow test that Friday. Turns out I had a blockage in my intestine, and constantly refluxing, vomiting. All the Fluid I was trying to get down was just backing up & out. Finally the following Monday the blockage passed on it's own. I lost 20 lbs. In those 2 weeks, have only lost 3 lbs. since. But, I feel great now, couple weeks behind schedule, but so relieved to feel good again. Please follow up with your surgeons office, hopefully you will feel better soon. Keep us posted.

  3. I am 11 days out, and am having a hard time. Surgery went perfect, did great in the hospital. Came home and started throwing up. Constantly. Every night it would start, go all night into morning. Had to have iv fluids several times. I was up to smooth liquids phase. Dr. Moved me back to Clear Liquids only. Had a barium swallow test yesterday and found I was constantly refluxing. Back to Dr. For more fluids. He thinks due to inflammation the Fluid in drinking isn't draining quickly enough & it's backing up, hence the vomiting. Now I am only allowed popsicles & ice chips for the next few days to see if the swelling goes down. I am feeling pretty down at this point. Anyone else have anything similar? Thanks for any input/advice.

  4. Good morning. Had my surgery at 9am yesterday (11/7) . I am surprised how well i feel. Maybe its the pain meds, or nausia meds in my iv but very little pain, i only dry heave when walking. This morning I start with clear fluids. I hear this may be. challenging. Hope you early November dates are doing great.

  5. Glad to read this. Surgery date is Nov. 7 and I find myself questioning it. I had no doubts when i started process in April, but I am suddenly obsessively thinking about the anesthesia. No idea why. The hospital called with my final instructions, where to go, what to bring, what to expect. Instead of being happy like i was when my insurance was approved, i felt a little sick. I keep telling myself one day at a time.

  6. Good morning from Newcastle, NSW, Australia. It is about to tick over 8:15am on Sunday 15th Oct.
    Given that I am three days post-op, I can say that the hospital food service provided me with reasonable food variety given the choices.
    * Lite milk (2% fat)
    * sugar-free mix up cordial (alternating Lemon with GI Lime)
    * warm (not hot) cream of mushroom soup
    * warm Decaf coffee
    * unsweetened apple juice
    - - - - -
    As I had a private room, I did not need the sleeping mask ... but I could see that it would have been an advantage had I been placed in a shared ward with one to three others.
    I had the chapstick and it was vital ... the dry air-conditioning and the lack of range in the nutrients meant my lips were dry or dryish often. I avoided cracking.
    - - - - -
    I have been home 16 hours now and have had
    * three Protein Shakes, two on Water, one on 225 mL of unsweetened almond milk (8pm, 11pm and 5am)
    * my Sunday meds and Vitamins.< br> - - - - -
    I have, to date, been pain-free.
    I am noticing the tendency to feel full very quickly. One should set themselves the target of eating/drinking a 250mL shake in no less than 20 minutes ... maybe as long as 50-65 minutes subject to your personal comfort.

    Happy to hear you are feeling well.

  7. Lacecute, stalls happen, and it sucks big time. I will say, though that you aren't eating nearly enough to jumpstart your weightloss. Your body is probably holding on to each morsel you eat, because you are in starvation mode. I had my surgery a week before you, and I eat a lot more than that. You should be eating 800 calories per day at the very least. What you listed totals about 400 calories.
    Start following your program. Everything is ok with the exception of the chips of course. Eat something every 2-3 hours. Focus on Protein (more), healthy fats (you've got them), and get some fiber in. You are going to be malnourished and constipated like crazy if you keep eating like that. You need to actually eat something at this point. Some lean protein and vegetables for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A Premier Protein shake for 1 of your Snacks if you are still lacking in protein. Have the cashews or some fruit (berries) for another snack. If you are still under, add a small salad to finish off your day.
    This is what I ate yesterday.....
    Breakfast: 2 egg whites, 1/4 cup of spinach, 1veggie sausage (116 cals, 3g fat, 2g Net Carbs, 16g Protein)
    AM Snack: 1 Premier Protein Shake (160 cals, 3g fat, 3g Net Carbs, 30g Protein)
    Lunch: kale salad with cubed turkey (195 cals, 15g fat, 1g Net Carbs, 12g Protein)
    Early PM Snack: 1 oz. raw almonds (160 cals, 14g fat, 3g Net Carbs, 6g Protein)
    Dinner: 3 oz. grilled salmon with 1/4 cup chopped broccoli (185 cals, 11g fat, 1g Net Carbs, 19g Protein)
    PM Snack: 2 celery sticks with 2 triangles of laughing cow cheese (85 cals, 3g fat, 1g Net Carbs, 4g Protein)
    Macros: 901 calories, 49g fat, 11g Net Carbs, 87g Protein
    Oh, and stop stressing also. That causes your body to hold on to fat. Cortisol is increased with stress.

    I love the structure/menu for your day. I started 'meal prepping' for my work day a few months ago, and found it 1 less stressor in my day.

  8. A couple other thoughts -
    1. There is a fairly new Protein Water available if you are okay with whey protein. It's called Protein2O and it has a good taste to it with 15 grams of protein per serving and no sugar. I like the grape and wild cherry flavors. If you contact the company they will send you a handful of coupons for .50 off each bottle so it makes it more affordable to try.
    2. Bone Broth is something to look into. It has tons of protein with a bit stronger taste than regular broth. It can be quite expensive to purchase but may be worth checking into - pick up a container just to try. I make my own and there are lots of recipes...google bone broth or I'd be happy to tell you how I make mine if interested. I did order some 8oz sized ones from Amazon to have available at first when I'll be away from home.
    3. I read someone suggested a mug plate - one of those things you can plug in to keep your coffee warm. She used it with her small dinner plates and bowls to keep food warm since we are to eat over a 30 minute period. I thought that was clever.
    4. A Yeti-type double insulated mug - again because we are drinking a lot and things warm things go cold in a regular mug.
    For hospital stay someone mentioned a pair of pajama bottoms so your back end isn't hanging out while walking the halls at the hospital lol - thought that was a good idea.....

    Like all these ideas. Thank you.

  10. BCBS (Ohio). I have 6 months of dietary visits and I just finished visit #3. I will be done with them in mid-October at which time they will send my information to my insurance for approval. My surgeon estimated a late November or dearly December surgery.

    I have BC/BS Maine. I had to provide evidence of 6 consecutive months of attempted weight loss. I joined WW online, and did monthly weigh-ins at my primary Drs. Office. My program navigator submitted my primary drs. letter on a Tuesday, and had my insurance approval by that Friday. I was stunned, and relieved so quick.
